  1. Still here and still playing :) Good to see you here again, Kaida! Will you be getting back into the game?
  2. At the risk of sounding stupid, when and where did Jagex say they would do this?
  3. Just a source of free bones :) The boneyard yields a better selection of bones, though. That's where I used to train prayer some eight years ago.
  4. Considering I bought 692k big bones at nearly an all-time low (in recent memory, anyway) of ~308 gp each some years ago, this prediction makes me a very happy camper :) The RS Wiki has updated since I posted my question—it does indeed appear to be F2P.
  5. The 2014 Halloween event is here. It's another point-based event, and you can unlock a new ability called "Cremation" if you rack up 10,000 points. According to the Runescape news post on the event, Cremation "permanently unlocks the ability to burn bones on bonfires, granting you Prayer and Firemaking XP." Here's some more specific information from this page: Does anyone know if this ability is F2P? The RSWiki article on it currently has no info about that. I'm skeptical, but the ghost hunter outfit (another reward) seems to be F2P, so I figured it's possible.
  6. Worked like a charm! Thanks so much for your help!
  7. Hi all, So a friend of mine is trying to finish this quest, and he's at the part where you have to drop weights onto the scale. The problem is that the weights never actually stay put on the scale; they just keep returning to the bottom row, making it impossible to get past this part. Any ideas on what the problem could be?
  8. After several months, I think an update is in order :) For me: For my friend Hindiman:
  9. A fine decision indeed. Nicely done, Slaya. :)
  10. So how are the "more conservative" F2P purists among us approaching this update? Is a P2P skill still a P2P skill regardless of whether it's been partially opened up to F2P, meaning we shouldn't even get level 5 in those stats (or visit Burthorpe & Taverley and unlock their attendant music tracks)? Or are we looking at the whole thing with more latitude: anything at all that's opened up to F2P is ours, including former P2P-only opportunities, and we should thus make use of them?
  11. What effect, if any significant one, will the opening-up of these new areas have on current F2P training methods? Are there more efficient ways to train combat and non-combat skills now?
  12. Just wanted to brag a bit here by saying that I just got my 7th 99, fishing :) But that in addition to that, I've also finally accomplished two things I've been wanting for ages: 1. All 99s on the right column of the stats screen 2. 100m total xp
  13. Forgive me for sounding dim but I have to ask: why would healing be a problem with lessers but not against ghosts (especially the higher-leveled ones)? Is it because you can effectively range them from a safe spot without worrying about them retaliating?
  14. Of these three, which would you say is the best to train on overall and why? For lessers/ghosts, which specific location(s) do you recommend? Also, I currently have 30k mith arrows. Since I'm nearly done spending my money on skills (aside from range, the only "spending skill" I have left is Magic, and since I plan to alch green d'hide bodies, it's actually profitable at the moment), I have a good amount of cash left to blow on random stuff. I was thinking about swapping the miths for 30k rune arrows. Is that a wise move? Would it make my training go by significantly faster? Wow, it's been so long since I touched melee that I had totally forgotten this. Thanks! So after all these years, r scim is no longer the king. Interesting turn of events. Would love to hear other opinions on this weapon choice.
  15. Yes, rune arrows are now f2p. Blue dragonhide armor and the magic shortbow are also f2p.
  16. As a name yes, as a person no. Honestly I can't even put a character/stats to that name. I know I know the name, and I think I remember him being very high ranked, but that's all I remember (very hazily). Didn't he have a 200m? (Like... Defence or something?) No. You might be confusing him with Eikoor, who was rank 1 in F2P defence xp for years (and still is, according to this). When I discovered the top f2p list sometime in 2005, Mendark was #1. Here's a screenshot of the top 100 f2p list from February 20th, 2005 (possibly the earliest known screenshot of the list; credit goes to ocelotbren for posting this): http://img212.images...uari2005pr4.gif I distinctly remember that by 2006, Mendark had 99 in every f2p stat except rc (97) and prayer (80) and he was easily the best f2per by leaps and bounds, with Syzygy well behind at #2. Mendark was working on rc at the time. He gained xp at a pretty steady rate every day. But then at some point in June 2006, he stopped gaining xp. He never came back on again after that. In August 2011, his name was changed to Leon71 and he got his agility level high enough to show on the high scores. I think the general consensus is that he was hacked. Never got to meet him, but considering I was a pure f2per on my first main from 2004-2005, hypothetically I could have. Really wish I had. Mendark was around for a long time. You can see from this list—which I think is from November 2002, but don't quote me on that—that even 10 years ago in RSC, he was still 101 combat: http://www.angelfire...ory/lvl100.html Incidentally, note how Galaxyg—another famous f2per—had the 10th highest combat in all of Runescape at that time. :) Advanced Bot, a level 109 at the time, was another pure f2per. There might be others that I've overlooked.
  17. His stats really aren't the best: What could he do to make the most of his month, as far as money goes? Like I said in the title, he hasn't been a member for over 5 years now, so he's totally out of touch with the current money-making methods. I myself haven't been P2P on any of my accounts since 2007, so I'm not exactly up-to-date either. One guy suggested to me that with those stats, the only thing he can do is camp an NPC, like steels/irons. But honestly, their drops aren't that great. He was personally hoping to be able to make a mil or two an hour. Is something like that totally unreasonable with his stats?
  18. My plans won't be changing at all: going to keep fishing like I have been for the past couple of months (if I'll even have time to log in at all this weekend...dumb paper for school).
  19. While I hate to be negative... good luck finding an open spot to mine. At the moment it's near impossible to train mining with the number of bots. Add real players into the mix trying to get the most of the 20% and you're looking at madness. Mining in the Guild on foreign worlds used to be tolerable, at the least...but the last time I did that was 2010. Has the situation changed since then?
  20. Yeah, I won't exactly be going out of my way to make sure "I make the most of it" or anything...I'm fishing right now, which is a deathly slow stat anyway, so I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and think of this tiny bonus as a nice perk I'm getting along the way.
  21. Whoops, yeah, I misspoke when I said Pure F2Ps; I meant F2P United. :P
  22. Isthatok, thanks so much for that post. I'd like to share something as well. Like you, I've been playing since 2004 (was 14 at the time), but unlike you I haven't quite gotten to the point where I think I need to stop—or not even that I necessarily need to, but that the daily course of events just keeps me so occupied that time doesn't allow me to play the game anymore. Despite being a senior at university, I'm only taking 9 hours (and 3 are for an online class, so my load is extremely light, plus I have 3 days a week off) and am currently unemployed, though I am looking for part-time work. In August, I had an interesting crossroads. Up until that point, I had always viewed my RS experience as something fun, and I hardly ever got bored playing it. Granted, I always multitasked—watched TV/movies, talked to friends on multiple chat channels—but actually playing the game was always an entertaining component of that whole package. It never felt like a chore to me. But then, after I had just hit 97 fishing (many of you here know what kind of toll that takes on you, especially after you've already gotten 99 mining), I really, truly started to get bored while playing. It didn't matter what I did while I played anymore; I could only do it for a very short while before I just couldn't take it anymore and had to log off. It was the first time in my 8 years of playing that I had seriously considered quitting Runescape. I even came up with all sorts of rationalizations justifying my big move to quit. The game was much more fun during my earlier years, when about 5 other irl friends played with me and we did all kinds of things together. By the end of 2007, all of them had quit, and now only one other irl friend of mine still plays—and we see each other more irl than we do in-game. Another thing I considered was that for all the years I played, I stood by the dictum (and still do) that people should play games to have fun, and if a person isn't having fun anymore with a game, they've missed the purpose of playing it altogether and—in all logical sense—should quit. I found myself completely unable to reconcile my new lack of interest in Runescape with this philosophy. I told myself that that was it; RS had nothing left for me and I had to quit. I was even on the brink of drafting up a long-winded goodbye post to post on the F2P Discussion Thread, but I decided to put it off for a little. I'm glad I did. My parents and I went on a vacation the next day. We spent the next 4 days in a small, quiet little town that resembled the ones in modern Hallmark movies. There was a Bed & Breakfast and, aside from my phone (which I hardly used), I really didn't have Internet access. Not that I don't get enough fresh air or anything, but being in this secluded little town for a while gave me a lot of time to think things out properly in a setting where playing RS wasn't even an option for me. I started to miss the game a little bit towards the end (I should note that I never had an unhealthy obsession with this game or anything—my grades did suffer significantly in 2005 because of the priority I let RS take over my schoolwork, but thankfully I was able to realize that, cut down my playing time, and fix my behavior before it was too late). I realized that I might have been a bit too hasty in my judgment—that I still do have some love left for the game, but that I would need a new "hobby" to keep me entertained while I played (because let's face it, who here fishes and does just that while they play?). That's when I rediscovered reading. Shortly before we went on our vacation, I had bought a Kindle and literally put 800 books on it. I had especially taken a liking to classic novels, and call me crazy, but the first book I decided to read on my Kindle was the unabridged version of Les Misérables. At a whopping 1488 pages, it's one of the longest novels ever written. But it keeps me so engaged, as do classic novels in general, that I realized this was something I could do as I played and it wouldn't have any negative impact on me whatsoever. When I got home, I tried it out for a bit. Sure enough, I was right. I could fish, chill in the Pure F2Ps chat, and read at the same time and essentially feel no boredom at all. Plus, over the past few days, I've really wanted to log on and play even if I didn't have my Kindle with me. More than just a crutch, I really think it helped re-kindle (no pun intended) my love for RS. Maybe everybody has a little something like that that works for them, who knows. :) But anyway, to those of you like Isthatok who have moved onto better things, I'm really happy for you guys and wish you all the success in the world. I honestly can't wait until I get to that stage in my life. I love this game, but I cherish the prospect of having a successful life full of happiness much, much more, even if that means Runescape can't be a part of it. But for now, I've got time to play it and it's bringing me happiness once again, so I'm here to stay for at least a while longer. :)
  23. I'll take this opportunity to do a stats update and also note that I have just broken Ixbpoqdxl's record for the lowest-leveled F2Per to hit 1300 total. He got it with 79 combat, but I just got it with 77. :) Here's to hoping Rusty Nail24 or his brother don't come out of the woodwork to blow my record out of the water...I'll bet they already have but just haven't uploaded a pic, lol :D
