Player-Made Equipment: Needs Attention?
crucifyed4us replied to Myweponsg00d's topic in General Discussion
I agree. I remember when bluerose was the richest player simply because she controlled the r2h supply. But the specialization skill is too complicated for runescape. This is a simple skill system where all skills are seperate. For example: you can raise both smithing and fletching by makings arrows, but the two skills don't raise at the same time. I think a core value at Jagex is to not complicate the game by making skills that raise in unison. -
Symantec: Mozilla Has Twice The Flaws Of IE

Uh, the Command Prompt is DOS. Yes pretty much every OS is derived from Unix, but pretty much every car is derived from Benz, does that mean that one car should be above others? Each OS has it's place. Linux won't catch on enough to rival Windows anytime soon, and I doubt that Linux will EVER be bigger than windows. Usability- Windows Security- Linux Design- Mac the "average user" doesn't understand anything about security, they figure that as long as they have a firewall they are safe, so therefore Linux is always gonna be in the shadow. I think it's great that Dell is selling computers with Mandriva, but I don't think it's fair to the average PC user if they force them to learn an entirely new OS. I learned Linux by choice, I also CHOOSE not to learn Mac. -
What browser are you using?

Only problem I have with Firefox is that if I have RS in one tab I cannot type anything in any text boxes or the URL bar. As I type it moves the cursor back one letter for each letter I type, almost as though I have the OVR option in Word on, but backwards. Oh well, I've got better things to do anyway.

Configuring the printer to double-print on pages
crucifyed4us replied to EugenyG's topic in Tech and Computers
You sound quite sure of yourself mercifull. Actually if you know any of the machine language then it would be quite simple to build a secondary driver that did that. Who knows, your printer may have the ability too (I have never heard of one that does though) Have you tried cleaning the heads? Most modern printers have some sort of cleaning process. If that doesn't work though I would just get a new printer. -
Symantec: Mozilla Has Twice The Flaws Of IE
crucifyed4us replied to punk4ever's topic in Tech and Computers
Why do people expect an invulnerable program? It's IMPOSSIBLE. There will always be something that IE has that Firefox doesn't, and vice versa. If you're stupid enough to put yourself into a situation which allows a vuln to be exploited then you deserve it. Quit trying to download your "1337 h4x0r pr0gz" and all your "pr0n" and you won't have to worry about any on-page vulns. -
Never mind. I converted both of the CD images to .iso's. Not only is it more efficient with only needing 2 files, but its also 200megs smaller now. Thanks tho.

I have a game, the directory contains 8 files, I need to know the purpose of them. I am used to dealing with .iso and .bin/.cue but I have never seen this type of image files. I use Alcohol 120% to mount them as virtual drives so I want to know which ones I still need. Here are the names and file sizes: Game CD 1.sub 32,536 KB Game CD 2.sub 32,847 KB Game CD 1.img 804,741 KB Game CD 2.img 797,131 KB Game CD 1.cue 1 KB Game CD 2.cue 1 KB Game CD 1.ccd 1 KB Game CD 2.ccd 1 KB So far I have figured that the .ccd and .sub files belong together, I just dont understand the purpose of the .img and the .cue files without a .bin file. Further more can I turn the .ccd and .sub into a .iso?

Wow, thanks for all the response guys, keep it coming. I have played quite a bit of what was said. And some things I have to say are: Morrowind: Surely the most indepth and original RPGs? I've been watching Obvlivion since it was announced. Civ 3: I love that game, I had Civ 2 for PS1 classic. Serious Sam: I hate that game, lol :-P thanks for helping though :D Yeah, I have wireless but most of the connections I can dig up aren't extremely fast so I don't really feel like online games.

Alright so I have like 2 hours between classes and I need some nifty single player games for my laptop to occupy my time. Here are the specs on my comp: P4 M- 1.6ghz Mobile Intel 915GM 128 meg card 512 MB of ram Windows XP So the trouble I'm having is finding a sort of "Top 10 low-end games" I have lots of emulators and roms and such, but that holds my attention only so long. Right now I have: Sim City 4 Empire Earth 2 GTA 2 as you can see I've only found RTS games that have real good replay value. I wanted *maybe* an FPS, but def something other than RTS. Well thanks in advance if you can give me some suggestions.

Unless you have some dire reason to have your computer on (updates, defragging, scanners, etc...) Then there's no reason to just let it sit there. For some reason people like to leave their computer on so all their friends can see their "cool" away message on AIM, I personally think that is a crap reason, but hey what do I know? Besides wasting electricity you coud possibly fry your HDD if you're using Windows. Leaving your computer unmonitored just begs for hackers as well.

When I boot up my laptop I have to wait for about 1-2 minutes for my NICs to come up in the taskbar. While I am waiting I cannot use the start menu at all, when I attempt to move my mouse onto the start menu/taskbar it turns into the hourglass until I remove my cursor from it. Finally my 2 NICs pop up in the taskbar and I can go about normally. Attempted fixes: Uninstalled drivers for both NICs, and updated. Removed ALL items from my startup (i.e msconfig, Run, runonce, Startup, etc...) So far nothing, my specs are: Windows XP Pro SP1 Intel Pentium 4M 1.6ghz 512 mb ram Realtek 810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC Intel PRO Wireless 2200 BG

Run a windows update, if it doesn't pick up any new drivers then: Right click "My Computer" click Manage, go to "Device Manager" look under the "unknown devices" category. Optimaly there will be nothing in there. If you see something like "USB 2.0" or anything about "universal serial bus" then it's a driver problem, and you need to find out where to download the USB drivers.

Yet needing a little more help, this time with my laptop.
crucifyed4us replied to Ape's topic in Tech and Computers
Laptops arent generally for gaming, unless you have a space-heater. Don't expect your poor little laptop to be some high-end gaming machine, I set my benchmark at Quake 3 which doesn't stress anything at all, but looks *ok* I am of course assuming that you have a simple laptop, not one of those massive Toshiba's. In that case then simply updating the drivers might help, or it is possible that the games don't like your graphics card, do some research on any conflicts with your card and the games you play. -
Recommend a GPU card + a few games?
crucifyed4us replied to Silver_Dragon's topic in Tech and Computers
You will be VERY deissapointed with BF2. It is nothing like BF1942. It's more like a combination of America's Army (realistic FPS) and BF1942(rush in fps) The problem is that you rush in and get killed, and if you don't rush in then the AI seems to avoid you completely. It was a bit laggy on my computer with 512megs, but I do only have a GeForce FX5200. Good FPS: Half-Life 2 Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (online only) (it's free) Pariah was fun but short as always Unreal Tournament 2004 Quake 4(not out just yet, but definetly a must-have) RTS: Warcraft 3 Empire Earth 2 Age of Empires 2 (3 is coming soon) -
Building computer (SERIOUS THIS TIME!)
crucifyed4us replied to Kwisatz's topic in Tech and Computers
Hmm last time I commented on his overpriced case I got flamed, by everyone but the poster. Odd...I guess some people are just retarted. -
if you get a seperate harddrive for your games then you can install all the games onto it, and convince your dad that they will not interact with his files at all.
-
Did I say "don't worry about the case at all" ? No I believe I said don't focus too much on it. If you shell out 80 bucks for a case then you got ripped off. Don't put words in my mouth.
-
Why don't you just get a hard drive and put your games on there. That's easy to do, easier than dual booting too. Dual-booting is usually for people who want to use a different OS, such as linux, without having to remove windows.
-
You don't need more than 1 gig of ram (also make sure you get 1 stick with 1 gig on it, not 2 512meg sticks, the less sticks the less things to break.) The biggest money-breakers are the proc and the vid. card. So make sure you get those first. Also, don't focus too much around the case, just make sure it can hold the mobo and then worry about ports. A good resource is http://www.slickdeals.net has lots of posts with good deals.

If you're just wanting to have your own space on your current hard drive then yes you can make you own partition. As I have never been interested in doing this I can't tell you how, but I know you can. I don't quite understand if you're saying: a.) You have 1 OS Installed and it has all system files on 2 hard drives? or b.) You have 2 different HardDrives with 2 completely different installs of Windows (or other OS) Anyway if it's option A. I have no idea. If it's option B then you can dual-boot, again, I have never taken time to do this so I can't give you specific instrutions, but it is possible.

Same thing happened to me and it turned out that my surge protector was shorting out.
