Actually, Dragon Longswords are an effective way of training your strength. I found that at 99 Strength, with nothing but a weapon equipped and no potions/prayers/specials, you can hit a 24 with a Dragon Longsword and a 26 with a Whip. Now compare the fact that a Dragon Longsword can effectively train Strength and you've got something to bargain for at 1/16th the price of a whip. Also, contrary to popular belief, a Dragon Scimitar actually hits one less than a Dragon Long, at 23. Not to mention that the Dragon Longsword requires a much easier quest, I think we've got a toss up on Strength training. However, if you're simply wanting to train attack or defense, then a whip is probably your best bet. If you have the money to spend on it, go ahead. It hits as fast as a dagger and does a tad more damage than the Dragon Long.

I'll do you one better and make a guide just a bit.. better.

Yes, the hiiiighest reaches of the circle chain. Lobs. If a circle doesn't have a line connecting to it (from above) that means it's an independent goal, to do without doing one of those other things. So I'm fishing lobs, then cooking them. Theeen I'm gonna do RfD up to Addy Gloves and go train melee. Melee will lead to Heroes'. Heroes' leads to both Throne of Miscellania and the start of RC'ing, because I'll be able to charge mah glories.
