@MrShinyredplanet: I know what the rule of thirds is but I wasn't really thinking about it when I took those pictures. @Chazimgee: The thing is, I didn't change the shutter speeds when taking those three pictures buuuut I'll probably go back and try it. I'll have to use my rubbish excuse of a tripod :P

So, I'm getting serious about photography and looking at other photographs, I noticed mine didn't have that distinctive thing to make it 'pop'. They are quite bland and the only thing that stood out was the silohette against the sky. Here is one to speculate about: Now, I don't know if it's one of the better ones but I liked the tones in the sky. I can think of a dozen ways to 'fix' this but often you need the opinions and critisms of others. Here are some other photos that I took on that same day: (They all follow the silohette against sky theme) [hide=] [/hide] Again, I went out to our town and took photos of a few buildings on top of Sainsbury's. These ended up even more bland than the silohette/sky ones. But this particular one made me think that with a bit of cropping it could turn out alright: Another thing, when I pointed my camera at a house, it turned out like this: But when I pointed it at the sky it turned out like this: Finding an alternative meant just find the correct place to point it: How do I... Not do it this way? The second one I like because it brought out the sky but darkened the house and the third lost some of the sky but made the house a little visible. Anyway, I was just asking for advice and such. I use a Nikon D40 with the standard lens that come with it, I do have a tripod but it wasn't used in these shots. As I mentioned in the photography thread just yesterday, I was looking for filters to help me. I know that there is a 'rule of thirds' out there somewhere and maybe I should have taken that into context. I used the landscape thing on the dial for all of these pictures. I also acknowledge that the lens may be dirty...
  4. If I could pin point my greatest fear, it would be lack of security. I can't describe it buuut I have a great fear of going into unknown places without people who I can rely on. When I went into sixth form, I knew that I wouldn't be in a class with people I knew and that frightened me. I almost didn't go. My parents want me to get a job and go to university but that thought just scares me, I'm trying to look for alternatives. I think my parents bubble wrapped me too tightly when I was a kid and only a few years ago did I face reality and realize that everything isn't how my parents told me it would be.
  5. I realize that it's been ages since someone last post here but I'm hoping that someone with a little bit of knowledge in photography still looks here. You see, I blindly ran into photography, grabbed the first slr camera there was to offer. (The cheapest, a Nikon D40 at £319.99). I bought it because we were going to India and I wanted to take some decent pictures and this was a good opportunity to do so but alas, I didn't use the camera to it's full extent. Now, a year later, I've decided get back into photography. I wanted to upgrade from my Nikon and maybe make a transaction onto Canon but there's not enough money to do that. I read that using other Nikon lenses will restrict you to using manual focus mode and not all lenses are compatible. A set back. So I think it would be best not to buy any lenses for this right? So I thought of other things I could buy and one thing I came up with is a filter. Now I don't know much about filters but I was hoping that someone could tell me. I read on the internet that it was an inner ring that screws onto the lenses with an adapter ring that goes on the end of a lens? I'm already confusing myself. I just need a little knowledge then I'll be confident enough to go out a buy the right one. Additionally, I could just adjust pictures on photoshop but I'm not familiar with it anymore.

  14. I laugh out loud to a lot of stuff alone. I find it more comforting without a sibling asking you what is funny and when you tell them, BAM! They point out how unfunny it is. I also write stories too. If someone I knew read a story of mine, I'd die. Apparantly it's not a characteristic of mine and my sad family think its lame. They aren't very open minded and think that it's a waste of time. Yeah, there are also certain websites that I won't go on if someone is watching and there is stuff I won't say in conversations on MSN aswell. Only because there's a lot that I don't tell my friends and family about. Ahh, drawing too. I normally have to start of with a naked body when I'm drawing a person but I normally leave it at that part then return to it later and if someone saw it, they might think I was drawing nude models. I draw clothes on afterwards though. Currently have 5 naked women in my sketchbook, best get a move on.
  15. Aww my mom has an indian accent, it's not as strong as Apu's but it's there. I was born in Yorkshire, so I have a dull accent. I like girls with the british accent or australian. They are good if they don't talk loud. Can't understand you Scousers! Or the typical German speaking English "Yaa, I'm wearing lederhosen." I don't believe all German speak like that when they attempt to speak English but man! That grates my cheese.
