  1. Since I thought this idea was a good one, and since I like it, I'm going to bump it back up to the front page. Also, with the new Zombie outfits, I thought it fitting to be brought back up before people start begging for more f2p bank space again. Finally, I want to see if I can expand upon this idea. Mostly because there is a plethoria of frog tokens out there, I have several sitting in the bank myself. As we all know, well most of us anyway, there are randoms which give you articles of clothing as a reward. These items are non-tradeable (this only has bearing on the non-tradeable items). Arguments can be made for and against the value of these items, as far as I can tell, they are for fun. Nothing else. But, with the rarity of some of the randoms, people are reluctant to part with some of the clothing types. Mime, Lederhosen(sp?), and Camo being high on that list. To combat this reluctance to lose the items, reduce bank space used, and allow more of the items into the game, a player will recieve the respective item from the random and be able to take it to the Varrock clothing shop and give it to the seamstress. She will then be able to reproduce the clothing for you (and only you) for a small fee (money sink). However, if you bring her a repetitive item, such as bringing her a frog token when you already have gotten the prince/princess outfit and the frog mask, she will allow you to choose a piece of another outfit, such as choosing a mime mask, perhaps having a heirachy for the items for the order in which you must get "other" items(i.e. frog first, zombie next, mime next, forester, then camo, or whatever). You can also "cash" in the token/item for, 100-500 coins maybe? (leo gives out 500 if you've already got the outfit and the emotes). As to why I would like people to be able to get the outfits easier...well, maybe I am...sorry, no maybe there, I am silly, but I think it would be humorous to be able to go into wildy in full mime and just annoy people until they kill me. Honestly, who would pass up the chance to trounce a mime climbing a rope (the only mime emote I have so far. :D ) Also, just imagine if you will, clans using the outfits to distinguish themselves instead of the capes. Full clan war of Zombies vs Mimes, Foresters vs Frogs. You could also play out Night of the Living Dead or any other classic zombie movie up in wildy. It would be FUN. Personally, I would also allow the F2P players to gain random clothing items that were P2P only this way, although they would not be able to have access to them unless they became P2P. That way, when they did become P2P, they could get the clothing instead of having to work through a bunch more randoms (Are there random clothing items that are only P2P?). Anyway, I know it's not perfect, would anyone else care to help flesh it out a bit more?
  2. Yes, I did end up doing that, but I still thought it was an interesting thought. Interesting, maybe. But how to implement it? That's one of the biggest problems. And, that can get to be a lot of information for the servers to have to deal with. As well, how to implement it? Can you set it up so that things are only sold as a group? Or can they be sold individually? (i.e. 100 hides at 100 each, or 100 hides for 10000 coins) What about if you want to add more to the sale? (For example, you just got more hides) It could put the merchenters out of business, which could be seen as good or bad, or it could just help them with their business, as they can just sit around banks all day snatching up things that are listed at low prices, and leaving things that aren't. Really, it needs more work before any real comments can be made on it.
  3. deathhead154: Darn, and here I thought you were saying that 11 seconds was how long he took to think up this idea. Honestly, if people want to put forth an idea, shouldn't it be a bit better thought out than "Hey, they should have this, it would be cool." And, Runescape has horses. Just got talk with Diago about it.
  4. A router doesn't usually show the LAN that's connected through it. It only shows it's IP address to the world. However, you can easily have 3-4 or more computers hooked up to the internet through the same router. Often, in a household, there are multiple people who play Runescape, and they prefer to play it together. Kinda the point of sharing a game, don't you think? However, since Jagex only sees the IP of the router, that means that it would only allow one of the people in the household to play at a time. Also, some servers at schools do not show the IP of the computer below them which is accessing the internet through them. This can help prevent hackers from getting in, but, again, it can make it appear that several people are playing from the same computer. Plus, there are many different ways for Autoers to get around that which I don't want to go into here because I don't want to "inspire" anyone to try it. So, while I applaude the effort and the desire to help
  5. First of all, WOW isn't the first place to use things like that. Second, Runescape, and all MMORPG's are rip off's of MUDs, which are rip off's of ...etc, etc, blah, blah, going way way back. But, if properly implemented, an auction house, sale barn, flea market, or whatever you want to call it, COULD be a boon. However, it can also be a bane, as it means that merchanters who do take the time to collect up resources in small amounts at low prices, could be put out of business by this system. Also, is it one BIG auction house crossing all of the servers? Or does each server have it's own auction house? And, does the person have to return to the auction house to pick up their cash? Is it an actual auction with bidding or is it more of a flea market? How much should players pay to be able to automate the selling of their items? How long should items be allowed to be left there? How many items can it hold at once? Is it worth it in the first place, and does it really have a use in the second? Finally, to the problem that brought you here in the first place acres_chairs, you could have tried buying hides from the people killing cows, checked the sale forums here, or, if all else failed, kill some yourself.
  6. *sigh* another gimmie post. By the way, to all of those who say F2P don't pay, do you get ads? I pay for the bandwidth those take up. So, no, I'm not getting the game for free, I'm paying for it with bandwidth. I also pay with the extra time it takes to raise my skills to equivelent levels of a P2P, which, in turn, puts more ads across my computer screen. I just don't pay with cash(yet) directly to Jagex. Back to the topic at hand. We just got a new random, which includes a new set of clothing and two new emotes. I've yet to get the second emote, but I've gotten the entire clothing set, and one of the emotes. Sounds like an update to me. And, if you are bored, find something else to do. Quit trying to "build" your character through skills, and build your character as a being in Runescape. Make some friends, chat with people, HAVE FUN, that's what the game is there for in the first place. You want a F2P skill that's fun? Here's one, Sense of Humor. It never shows up on your skills list, but your level is determined by how many people you can make smile behind their computer screens. Extra points if someone blows some kind of liquid out of their nose. Work on training that one.
  7. Lets see, killing Pirates in the cavern south of Port Sarim and Rimmington, burying regular bones(not sure how many) I've gotten Leo three times so far, which has given me the complete outfit. I'm hoping to get the emotes before too long.
  8. Leo does make the comment that he thinks you could help him because he saw you burying bones. This leads me to believe that it is a prayer specific random. Although it is the first one that does not require combat, which I like.:) Got the full outfit myself, now I'm going for the emotes.
  9. Player guilds(clans) and party systems, along with skills which support it.
  10. Hmm, haven't played Castle Wars, I'm f2p. But, I don't see that it would be that hard to allow non-players into the castle wars arena, but Jagex would have to be careful about it. Lets see, best way I can think of is to drop a character into a "non-body". It would be a body object which allows connection, movement, and visibility, but is invisible, and unable to interact with it's surroundings. Invisible, mute, and intangible. The player's normal body would be saved at the point when they entered the arena. That way if they got disconnected, or something else happened that logged them out, they would just come back in their own body at the enterance area to castle wars. This may, or may not, be how they did the viewing orbs, I don't know. They could also add sparing rooms. If there is more than one person waiting, you could go into the sparing rooms and practice your tactics. Good, bad, why?
  11. Idarodo, I agree. Actually, I wanted something like "Ashes of Lesser Demon" as part of the item list, but they only drop ashes, no way to know where it came from. Maybe add something like 3 limpwurt roots and 2 red spider eggs. (for strength) Then, when it's all mixed together, you have to take it to Kamarja volcano and boil it over the lava pit to seal the ingredients together? Place the point to boil it at a secluded area, but have a lesser demon (or other creature) guarding the spot? And, I was trying to keep it limited to as many things already in game as possible. It would make it easier to implement.
  12. Alright, before people flame me for asking for more F2P stuff, read through the entire thing first, see if you like it, make suggestions and changes on the quests themselves, Jagex will ultimately decide if anything goes F2P or P2P, or if anything goes into the game for that matter. F2P Quest Name: Hetty's Prank Story: Hetty's cousin, Frumscone (in the Magician's Guild) stole her idea for a magical item and didn't give her credit for it. She's mad and want's a bit of revenge. Start location: Go to Rimmington and talk to Hetty. She needs some items. Requirements: Must have completed Witch's Potion She wants: Purple Dye (see Goblin Diplomacy for how to make it). Normal Leather 10 earth runes 1 cosmic rune 3 body runes 1 yew log 2 eye of newt onion (other items, suggestions please) When you bring the items back to Hetty, she uses them to cast her spell. When she finishes, she gives you one of the new magic items, Frumscone's Magic Larder. Reward: Frumscone's Magic Larder, and the ability to come back and have another one made if you lose yours. Quest Points: 1 P2P Quest: Frumscone's Rebuttal Requirements: Must have completed Hetty's Prank Story: Frumscone had fiddled with Hetty's idea, and was able to actually make the item she had thought of (the mystical larder). Hetty had been too lazy to do it herself, and Frumscone figured that, because she didn't do any of the hard work wasn't entitled to any of the fame. Frumscone is now upset with Hetty for turning all of his Magical Larders purple (a color which he detests) and decides to make a better version using a different method. Start Location: Go to Frumscone in the Magician's guild and talk to him. He will tell you the items that he needs to complete his new item and asks you to get them for him. He wants: Yellow dye. 18 Earth runes 18 water runes 1 cosmic rune 1 air rune 1 law rune 2 nature runes needle Thread 2 hardened leather (needs more, help here?) When you bring the items back to Frumscone, he creates an improved version of his magical larder, Frumscone's Greater Larder, and gives you one as a reward. Reward: Frumscone's Greater Larder and the ability to have another one made if you lose the original, but will require more thread and hardened leather. (runes too?) Quest Points: 1 Items: What it does: The Larder(s) allow you to store more food (hence the name larder) in a single slot. Not a new idea, since there are baskets and such for strawberries. However, unlike the baskets, any type of food can be stored in the larder. My biggest dilema is on whether it should be limited by the number of items stored in it (i.e. it can hold two food items) or whether it should be able to hold a maximum hp amount of items (i.e. it can hold up to 40 hp of food) Also, like the Pouches for Runecrafting, you can only have one of each type in your inventory at a time. Thus, you could have a regular and a greater, but not two regular or two greater. Might even want to limit that to only allowing one of either at a time. You "use" a food item with the larder to store it in the larder. If you click on the larder, you eat the first item in the larder. You can also right click on the larder and choose "empty" to remove the items from it. If what you are eating leaves a non-food item behind (stew, curry, pie, etc), that item is dropped into your inventory, or, if your inventory is full, onto the ground. If what you are eating has multiple "bites" the item stays in the larder until it is gone (i.e. cake). F2P Frumscone's Magic Larder: Image: Uses the medium pouch image, but in purple. Holds: Itemwise: 2 food items HP wise: up to 40 hp of items.(two sharks) P2P Frumscone's Greater Larder: Image: Uses the Great pouch image, but in yellow. Holds: Itemwise: 4 food items HP wise: up to 80 hp of items.(four sharks) Tech talk below: As to implemeting it, I was unsure whether the food should be stored as a queue (first in, first out) or a stack(first in, last out). A stack would be more typical of a bag, in that the last items you put in are on top. Any suggestions there? Again, suggestions, comments, constructive criticisms? Also, how badly would such items affect game balance?
  13. Hmm, depends on the player, at this point anyway. If they had created their character BEFORE the rule about confusing names, I believe that they should be allowed to change their name. Though if they created the account after the rule was in place, well, they were warned, were they not? Something of a grandfather clause, if you will. However, some problems do arise from name changes such as this. How do you handle the friends list changes? Just because people are not on your friends list does not mean that you are not on theirs. The name changes will not update their lists unless a complete scan of the entire database of player files is run. Same consideration for the ignore list. I would assume this is because the player name is tied to the save file used for the character. As you can see, this could be an advantage for abusive players as they could have their name changed, you ignore them, they just change their name and start bothering you again.
  14. Hmm, I think, just as any "great" game, it's the people. There are a lot of people on Runescape who are really not likeable...scammers, hackers, gimmies, etc...but then there are also the people who make up the Tip.it community, among others. Just my two cents.
  15. Hmm, well, I wouldn't be able to use them myself, (f2p) but I would suggest a few limitations on them. 1.) Each ring goes to only one master. They can also be recharged by said master for a fee. (Money sink, which is always good, you want the convience, you gotta pay for it) Might also consider not having them for all of the masters. The Edgeville one is close enough to a bank to not really need it, correct? That also means that you have to visit that master on your own at least once. As well, make them non-tradeable for this reason. 2.) Slayer level requirements for each ring. That way someone with a slayer level of 1 can't use it as a quick escape route from PKers or monsters. There are already the glory amulets, rings of life, duel rings, etc, which are used in this manner. 3.) Might want to make it so that you have to complete your current slayer assignment before you can use them? Again, I can't slay, so I don't know just how the assignments work. And, it also makes it so it's not just a quick escape route item. As to the orb, I don't know how apropriate that is. Would each orb be tied to a specific master, like I suggest for the ring, or would it choose the assignment to give from a random master? Or, maybe, you can set it to a particular master when you visit them? By using the orb on the master? Not really sure on this one, don't really know enough about slaying. Just some things to think about.
  16. I had made a similar suggestion.:) The idea is not a bad one, but the extreme potential for and likelyhood of abuse is what makes it unfeasable, unfortunately.
  17. Well, changing the font won't entirely solve the problem. There is still the issue of, "gee was that five 0s(zeros) or six 0s(zeros) before the o(letter O)."
  18. It's actually easy to see why. You can create a variety of foods with the base ingredients already available. You can easially make variations on already existing items and by simple modification of existing images(changes to colors and such) throw in new items. Such as soups and stews. How hard would it be to add in more soups and stews? You could add chicken noodle soup (chicken meat, water, and bread dough). French onion soup, cabbage soup(borsht?), etc... How about some variations on cooked vegetables? Make creamed corn and other such dishes. And, all that would be needed for these, again, are variations on the available graphics. What this means is no new mechanics, no real new graphics, just modifications on existing ones, and a bunch of new stuff for players to try out. Plus, the foods are easily dropped into and between existing foods. They don't have to be better, just different.
  19. Lets see for a comparison to other f2p foods: Item cooking Level hp healed # of ingredients Tuna 30 10 1 Meat Pie 20 11(6,5) 3(plus dish) Stew 25 11 3(plus bowl) Hamburger 20 10 5 Not only that, the cheese and tomato are not the easiest to get on f2p. Personally, while I would do the new quest, I really don't see myself making these. At 20, you can already make the Meat Pies, a two bite healer, with ingredients that are much easier to gather. The pie dish and the stew bowl are both re-useable, so, while you need them for the items, you don't have to keep gathering them once you have a few to keep reusing. Now, I'm always open to new quests and new items in game. This could have its place, but the final product needs to be re-worked a bit first. The sheer number of ingredients and their scarcity outweigh its novelty.
  20. Umm, can I have your sofa? Must be one of those magic ones that keep refilling with money.:) Indizle, great story, maybe it will inspire others to do just what this game is here for...have fun. Minishcap92, please try and keep it civil. Note that the first posts quashing this one were by f2p players, the "they" you are refering to, and the very first post really just saying "use search first". Both Idarodo and myself were jumping on this before any members were, and, well, I think our comments were more constructive than yours. Personally, I take offense at your blatent grouping of all f2p players in this manner. To everyone else, thank you for your kind comments. While some people see a clear division between the f2p and p2p communities, I hope the majority of us remember that we are all a part of the Runescape community.
  21. The absolute best way to make money on f2p or p2p is the way that you enjoy most.
  22. Hmm, well, it's been a while since it happened, but I'll try and remember as much of it as I can. I was helping a friend (irl) train his new character. We were up at the goblin camp and I was just kind of putzing around, playing with the goblins. This guy comes up and wanted me to get the Zamaroc wine for him. Being industrious, I already knew about the scam from reading about it, so I refused. Told my friend it was a scam and we went back to doing what we were doing. Finally figuring out that I wasn't going to fall for it, this guy asks me if I want to help him scam some people. I refused and he asked me why. I told him that I didn't like doing that kind of thing. If only I had known enough to use the report feature at the time. *sigh*
  23. Zerocool11, that would be a punishment against people similar to myself who do type rather quickly and are quite...verbose. I prefer to say things well, instead of typing them in quickly. Often this takes several lines of text to do, especially if I am attempting to explain anything that is at all in depth.
  24. *sigh* I supose you're right. Unfortunately, I often look at such things in the innoculous manner and forget just how innanely abusive and immature some of my fellow gamers can be. Gotta keep remembering, anything that can be abused for their amusement, will.
  25. I take it you never saw the Tamers on UO? Guys walking around with 4 or 5 dragons, owning some of the toughest spawns around because they could. Very unbalanced in the game, they had to limit the amount of "pets" which tamers could have because of it, as well as putting other restrictions on them. Been a couple of years since I was on UO, wonder how much they've changed.
