    randoms!!!

I like most of the randoms, personally. Then again, I tend to get them while skilling instead of while in combat. It seems like, if you are burying your bones, you tend to get your randoms when you are burying, instead of while in combat. You get the bone random, and then the counter or whatever, resets. I also have all the outfits but the shade robes from random encounters. I'm silly, I like them. Hmm, what about a message in the text box that you can click yes or no to a random if you are in combat? The box to click can be somewhat like the bank pin to make it harder for a macro to pick out the correct response. That way people who are attempting to use a macro, or those who are AFK training still get hit with the random as they are supposed to, but those who are actively at their screen would be able to cancel the random before it activated if they were in combat. The 10-15 seconds is in case they are in the middle of trying to eat or something to that effect.
  2. Some of the problems with Tanking: a.) You have people believing that it is the only strategy, no matter their level. b.) There are some players who don't bother trying to hide first, just run to the fist and try to tank. c.) Because of the reduction of stats, you aren't as tough as you think you are. And the point of the rant was that the game should be as much about avoiding the other player and using the terrain to your advantage as possible. Why? Because this is one of the replacements for old Wildy. In wildy, if a pker found you, especially if you were outclassed/underequipped/just didn't want to pk, did you stand there and try to tank or did you use the environment and your wits to your best advantage?
  3. To Roberthree (and others who have posted here): Neither do these posts, contribute to the original thread. And, by focusing on the perceived elitism, the point that was made was ignored. As with his post, you have singled out a small portion of the entirety of the thread, which is, in fact, one of the mistakes he made in his original response, and made it the focus of your response, ignoring or sidestepping the actual point being made. i.e. that players should be attempting to avoid getting hit, not simply trying to tank, or, in the case of my post, that it was both sides who continue to perpetuate the argument and reduced it to a flame war. To compfreak847: Thank you, I appreciate it, and apology accepted. Unfortunately, it appears that most of the rant's forum has been reduced to such a state, not just this thread. On the F2P worlds, you might try FOG on one. You get an advantage from your agility, but other than that your choices are as a F2Per. I don't know for certain, but I believe that the lower damage levels and stopping limits, as well as no specs or poision, tend to make for a longer and more difficult game. You might want to try it on F2P a few times and see what you think. Hopefully you will get a runner and not a tank. Back on topic, would any of the TET who frequent these forums be interested in running a FOG "shop" to help teach players about how to use tactics in FOG? Recruiting players such as Fairness and others who wish to HAVE FUN playing and not simply earn tokens or magic exp to act as instructors could help to instruct others. Try and get 10+ player who will act as instructors and demonstrate tactics and strategies. Having several truce/instruction rounds where those being instructed do not grab a fist could help. Not sure what happens when the score is 0-0. Might be interesting to find out.:) While you can not choose who you are paired up with, and you may have players who attempt to disrupt such as session, I think, if it is entered into with the correct attitude, and with some enthusiasm, it could be a great learning experience. Also, I don't know if the tokens are transferable or not, but if they are, tokens earned by "staff" could be used as additional rewards for creative tactics and players who play a good game. i.e. even though you lost, you ran it most of the time, were only outmatched because of un-even level matchup, or it was just a good, entertaining match. You might also designate some players as "judges". These players will take a blow durring the game as they will not grab a stone and will not defend when attacked. They also won't attack their opponent, so the lucky player who gets matched up with them ends up getting a full 10 minute charge up in the center. You might also designate some staffers to a particular type of attack/defense practice, such as running around the rocks/houses, edge running, etc, so if you are up against that person, you know what you will be learning, and it makes certain that SOMEONE is using that type of tactic. Tanking in the center should not be one of those strategies, however, as that can be learned in the current FOG. Oh, and in response to one of the complaints about maging over the rocks. While you can see over them in a top-down view, have you adjusted your view to see if you can see over them when looking at them head on? I have not, I'm not even certain which rocks you refer to, so I am asking. You might be able to see your target, but that doesn't mean that your character can. If, however, you CAN see your target over the rocks in a head on view, then I agree that you should be able to cast over the rocks.
  4. In response to Compfreak847, that attack combination only works on members worlds. It's a bit different on F2P worlds, where the highest mage attack is Fireblast and the best stopping spell is bind. On to the second portion of your thread, your generalization places me into the "rest of the thread", and to that I take personal offense. I flamed no one, and attempt to stay away from it. I do my best to keep a civil tongue when speaking on these boards, although there are those who do not. I can also see, in this thread, that due to the way a portion of text was worded (Omali), the point was missed. Because he said "get over it", instead of, perhaps, "It's best to just get over it", the point of the statement was missed, that there will always be people who name call in such games. This, of course, started name calling back and forth, as the "get over it" portion was interpreted as insulting... Seems like both sides hold part of the blame. Omali could have worded his post better, Fairness could have read it two or three times before deciding whether it was intended as an insult or a suggestion, or even asked for clarification before assuming that it WAS an insult. It takes one to flame, it takes more than one to fan it.
  5. I haven't played too many games of FOG yet, I've only done enough to get one set of RC gloves so far. Each game I've played, I've been trying different tactics. The first couple of games it was mostly the RLH (Run Like H***) manuver. My tactics have improved since then, using house blocking and manuvering. However, most of my opponents have not used many tactics. I'll admit, the free mage exp is rather nice, but it's not much of a challenge. The most tactics I've seen used against me so far is one player who went and hid along the outer wall and, once I found him, pretty much ran to the center and stood on the fist. He called me a Level 92 noob. Similar to what Omali said, with very few exceptions, there will always be players who will try insulting you to get you to play how they want you to. The best reaction to that is simply to ignore them as it keeps their tactic from working. What Omali seems to have missed originally was that the point of the topic was not focused on the name calling but on the fact that the players seem to think that it's a he-man contest to see who can stand up to the most punishment, not the fox and hound competition that it is designed to be. Now, on to a possible solution? Perhaps TET could do a few events focused on FOG, maybe even go into some of the non-FOG worlds to run it so that they won't a.) interrupt ongoing FOGs and b.) be disturbed by players who aren't interested in learning about FOG while playing. I believe that only BH is restricted to the event worlds, you just need enough people on a non-FOG world to get the game to start, I think. Can anyone confirm this? If there is enough interest, you might even be able to start your own dedicated FOG world, based on gameplay instead of tokens or magic exp.
  6. See, now that's one of the reasons that most miners believe that mining is fine as it is now. It does take DETERMINATION in order to honestly become highly profitable. In order to get to the point where you can mine Runite, you have to work through it, much like many things in real life. You want to be a great pianist, it takes a long time and a great deal of patience and practice. You want to be great at anything, it takes time, patience and practice. Most of the skills take little time, there are ways to power through them, you barely have to watch the screen. Many of them, you can simply buy the materials you need to advance levels or sit in a safe spot (or semi-safe area) and let them run their course, but mining is one of the few where you cannot. As well, it is one of the only ones where you have to constantly pay attention to the screen. (I was mining and not paying enough attention one day, ended up with a broken pickaxe.) If you want to get mining levels easy, mine essence, you can start on the rock and just let it run, only a few clicks to bank and back. If you want to level fast, power mine iron. If you want to mine profitably, mine coal until you reach the level you want. Pick one and stick with it, pick three and switch between them. Does this mean that mining couldn't use some additions? No, not saying that. It also doesn't mean that mining couldn't use a neat mini-game, or some advances. However, ways to get more ore faster, or to get more exp faster are not really needed, at least not in the opinion of the existing miners. However, more uses for ore, especially at the lower levels, would be appreciated, I'm sure.
  7. Ooooohh, I like Brave2's suggestion. Not only will you and your friends get the satisfaction of helping to stop RWTing (and it's a problem that players are causing, so why not have players stop it?), but you will get the items that that stupid schmuck paid for. You might even be able to get a graveyard series and competition started based solely on hunting RWTers and their "johns".
  8. That may be part of the problem, simple little responses like that do keep the thread alive instead of letting it die a slow withering death. By responding, you are simply fueling the fire and giving the OP and their supporter(s) an excuse to continue their diatribe, keeping the thread alive. As you may have noticed, valid points and arguments are most often ignored in order to pick apart small details such as the length you have or have not been playing and/or if you qualify as a proper pker, or making unrealistic comparisons (not pointing to anything offered in this thread, but to comparisons in many, many other threads). And, YES, in many cases it is most definitely the poster's fault for receiving such responses as they have created a new thread covering a topic which has already been covered and is still listed on the front page. For example, are there two, three, or more posts ranting about RWTers on the first page right now? And what about the rants about the loss of wildy? Why do we continue to see thread after thread not only complaining about the loss of wildy, but pretty much regurgitated venomous spittle about how horrible Jagex must be for removing wildy as it was? How many times to forum users have to re-write well thought out responses before they are justified in simply stating get over it or get out? Honestly, that is why many of the stickies are there, mods got tired of seeing the same, or similar, topics started over and over and over again. I think, to sum up my feelings on it: a.) Stop using the simple responses, it just gives some ranters more ammunition and a reason to keep the thread alive. b.) Perhaps the mods should lock more of these repetitive threads and point the OP to the original thread, in order to make them read the arguments that have already been made and either validated or invalidated so that they do not have to be continuously repeated, if, that is, they honestly wish to continue such a rant. Oh, just to note, a graphics update rant sticky would have (and may still be) nice to have when that large update was released. It could/can be unstickied in a month or so, but it would put all such rants in one place so you can see what others have found so far. Personally, while the whip changes haven't bothered me, as I'm F2P, I wear my mime and zombie outfits quite often when skilling and have had my own complaints about those.
  9. Players like XeroRegret, and others, do believe that F2P shouldn't get any sort of updates at all. They see that $5 that they spend each month as entitlement to claim exclusive rights to everything that Jagex puts out for Runescape. Mind you, they do not have to put up with the Ads, which pay revenue to Jagex on behalf of the F2P players (although there are more than a few selfish F2Pers who block them). As to the original poster, turn down your resolution and you can effectively have a full screen. Get over it and get over yourself. Jagex isn't being "greedy" to expect F2P to pay for their servers through advertisements, they are being reasonable. Tell you what, if you're willing to purchase an equivalent server and it's costs, paying for upgrades, repairs, storage fees, the internet connection that keeps it online, the power bill that keeps the server powered up, etc... I'll bet that they would be more than willing to pull the ads from that server and let you have Fullscreen on it.
  10. You know, I find something interesting in this particular topic. I keep seeing the "I've been here since RSC, I'm old-school" used as justification for how much more these persons know than those of us who argue against them. I also keep hearing about how the rules, such as drop trading, are stupid and should be ignored. But, I am willing to bet that when Runescape first opened, none of these rules existed. I can tell you right now that there are more rules now than when I first started. But, these rules came into being BECAUSE of players like the OP who abused the system and caused Jagex to feel the need to state explicitly what was and was not allowed. I remember there being arguments about whether luring was a scam or not, and the arguments continued, even after Jagex said that it was considered a scam. Heck, I'll bet they never thought they would have a Customer Support department to misuse back when they first opened Runescape, or Forums. In other words, the reason such measures had to be taken against the portions of the game that the OP so treasures are, directly or indirectly, a result of actions taken by the OP and those with a similar attitude. i.e. I think that rule is stupid so I can ignore it as I want for my own benefit.
  11. You make it sound as though RWT started with Runescape. It has been around much longer than Runescape has. I remember seeing sites for RWT for Ultima Online before Runescape even existed. The only way to truly get rid of RWT is to have players who actually earn their equipment and gold instead of figuring that they should be able to buy it.
  12. I can, to some extent, understand the OP's point in that several of the people still ranting about how RS is ruined now that wildy pvp has been removed use the claim of how they have been around since RSC and that they are "old school" as justification for how they know that RS has been ruined and how anyone who has not been around that long doesn't have a clue. A few things to remember, a fool who has grown old is still a fool. And, men learn from their experiences, wise men (and women) learn from the experiences of others.
  13. Everyone speeds, that's still against the law as well. Break the rules and get caught, pay the price. You think telling an officer that "everyone does it" will honestly get you out of a ticket? Besides, blocking the ads takes revenue away from Jagex. Something that P2P are constantly railing against F2P about anyway. I guess that mean that if you're on a F2P server, maybe for BH or FOG, you ought to suck it up and just deal with the ads? Otherwise you're just another one of those whiny, no-good, wah-wah-wah I want everything, Jagex owes me because I play their game F2Pers.
  14. One of the rationalizations behind drop trading being ok mentioned here is that other MMORPG's allow you to do so between characters. I used to play UO (Ultima Online) and once you had a house, it was actually quite easy to trade between characters on your account because they all had ownership access to the house. Notice that I say all of the characters on the account. That is because you were allowed multiple characters (5 at the time) on your account to allow you to try different methods of play. i.e. skiller, combat mage, warrior, ranger, tamer, bard, thief, etc... Like many other MMORPG's, and UNLIKE Runescape, you could NOT do everything with one character. However, very much like Runescape, you were not allowed to multi-log, so it was hard to trade items between two accounts, unless you got a friend involved (at least initially). So, I would say that the "because other games allow it" reasoning fails.
  15. Actually, the biggest thing wrong with this rant is that there was one similar to it posted the day before and instead of expanding on that one, a new one was started. As to the subject, there have been several "flaws" found with the new animations. Let Jagex know, I've personally bug reported three actual flaws I've seen so far. As a member, you should be able to give feedback on their forums, although you might consider stating it differently than crapping yourself.

    Clicking Levels?

Ok, I'll agree that there need to be more BH worlds. Should they be f2p or p2p? And, how many more of each? On the original rant  Now, on to the devolved rant, about RWT. The reason that Jagex got into trouble from RWT is that people were using stolen credit card numbers to create accounts which were used for botting and gold/item farming. These fraudulent charges were ones that Jagex had to repay. For those of you who have not looked at the RWT sites which were displayed on that page, most, if not all, of them required that you give them your a.) rs name, b.) rs password and c.) rs bank pin. All of which are very bad security ideas. This is so that they would be able to log into your account and grind your character up to the skill level/gold level that you paid for. They do note that if you have decent skills, it will take them less time to get you the cash you're asking for. Most of them also required you to be members. While Jagex can, and should, go after the people who use such services, they should not have to worry about repaying fraudulent charges made bye these RWTers as the player is the one required to get members before utilizing the services. As can be seen, the RWTers still exist, but they have had to change their style around the changes that Jagex has made in Runescape. These changes should help limit, if not eliminate, the fraudulent charges Jagex had to deal with which were endangering the company. Thus, the true goal of removing a threat posed by RWTers appears to have been removed.
  17. Hmm, I used to have problems with the ads when they would change. I learned to right click and put them onto the low, instead of the high, resolution. Blocking the ads, however, is not helping Jagex at all, in fact, it lowers the amount of revenue they receive from their advertisers (depending upon how the ads are blocked). I actually leave their page loaded when I have the computer on but am away from it so that the ads cycle. As to them ruining the immersion of the game, set your monitor to 800x600 and you can scroll the ads almost off the top of your screen on a 19 inch monitor. Finally, the attitude shown here about the ads and Jagex doing "nothing" about removing them is just one of the reasons that P2P think so little of many F2P. Oh, to drek9, from what I have heard reported, even if you are P2P, if you go onto a F2P server, you get the ads. That, in my opinion, is something that Jagex should strive to solve.
  18. This is focused mostly at eatrunearrow, but also to those who believe that the removal of wildy pvping "ruined" Runescape or removed the "best" part of the game. There's a saying about there being no sense throwing good money after bad. It's a term often used for cars. It means that it's not worth investing more in the item because you can't get as much back out of it. When you hit that point, it makes more sense to go and buy a new car, no matter how much you may love your old car or how faithful it was, it won't be worth what you put into it. You have to decide for yourself if Runescape has reached that point for you, is the time that you WILL put into your character worth the enjoyment you will get from it? Forget the time that you have already invested, that time is spent and gone, you cannot get it back so don't use that as an excuse to stay (it's the "bad" money). The question is about the future, the time and money that you have not yet spent. (the "good" money)
  19. I often see level 100+ while training on Crandor Isle at the Mossies. Level 92 personally.:) You can also find them in Stronghold of Security, training on second level and below with the aggros, usually near the exit to third level. Hmm, fighting lessers where they spawn is also another place to look.
  20. Hmm, lets think of some ways to mess with them then.:) Mostly for the gf one though. Ask them what their cooking skill is, if it isn't any good, just tell them you won't go out with someone who can't cook for you. If it's decent, ask them what their cleaning skill is. If they actually play along with that, and you're feeling daring, ask them what their foreplay skill is. I probably wouldn't recommend that last one though, might get you into trouble, but could end up being very funny. Here's one. If you see someone just asking to be anyone's gf (modify for bf). , honey, is that you? Honey, come home, please, the kids miss you. Little Billy's been cryin hisself to sleep since you left. And Sally Jo ain't bin right since... well, since the trouble. I don think yer gonna git inter trouble fer that lil mishap. I jus tol the cops it were an accident. The trailer just ain't bin home without you. Continue as you wish, probably be best if you have a low level account to do it with, maybe something below level 20.:)
  21. I've had the same problem happen to me several times. Fortunately not in combat, although I did have it try to load on me in FOG once. Gets a bit confusing when you're in the middle of something and all of a sudden the screen goes blank. Also had a similar problem when telegrabbing Zammy wines. Accidently hit the low-alch symbol and the inventory screen opens. Fortunately, I don't tend to have the low-alch runes when doing that so I can't actually alch something. Would be nice to get a "You don't have the runes to do that." message first instead though.
  22. Umm, maybe he prefers that kind of thing?!? In any case, I've been lucky enough not to get hit by her too many times, and no where truly risky. Just move to a safe (or somewhat safe) spot and deal with her quick.
  23. Just got called a "level 92 noob" today in Fist of Guthix. Mind you, it was only my third match of FOG, so maybe I wasn't playing "right", but I still beat the person on points. I guess it's because I was running instead of standing there and letting him hit me.:) I also ended up maging him to death because he was wearing full rune. Bet he never would have made it in old wildy.
  24. On a related note, I get people telling me that I should go train magic and range elsewhere because my combat level is in the 90s. Mind you, I've just gotten my range to 65 from the 40s in the last week and I'm working on getting magic to 65 now.
  25. Are you sure those aren't your eyebrows? Everyone now has big, thick, bushy eyebrows. I've also noticed that not all of the walk animations are at the correct speed for movement.
