Some endgame efficiency questions
For rocktails, urns are 25 rocktails, so if you do porter IV, you want 5 porter:4 urns, 1:1 for porter V, and 5:6 for porter VI. (Porter IV is the cheapest per item banked, so if money is anything to you, you might want to go with that. I did 90 minute fishing trips, and always had more than enough urns and porters, but you might run into a capacity issue if you did more) For smithing, the most efficient is to superheat and drop gold while mining at LRC, but that might not work as well with mining being one of your last. I got 99 Woodcutting on Eucalyptus trees just outside Mobilising Armies, but I'm not sure if you'd want to do that. I did cut the Elder Tree by the Draynor herb patch every time I did a farm run, but Elder Trees are just too slow and require too much seeking out for me to like them that much.

Been away a long time need help for old characters!
I know exactly what you mean - I'd be devastated to lose my account, not just because of the stats/bank/the tangible stuff, but also because of the history that I have with it. Just as a little hint, I think that the credit cards are the most likely details to help you get it back - if I recall correctly, people have reported the most success getting them back when they have that.

Hmm, left this alone a little too long...
I had a blog here once, apparently. I never posted on it regularly, looking back, but I'm going to try to rectify that. Something that's changed quite a bit from the way I used to play, and something that doesn't seem that popular anymore, is that I don't take very many screenshots of my accomplishments in the game. When I got 99 woodcutting, I didn't even get a screenshot of it, which might not be the most popular thing here, but I don't really feel like changing that. It takes a bit of the fun out of things, I find. So, I'm going to try and be back here to post more often. I might say things about the things I accomplish - drops, skills, etc. etc. - but don't expect an abundance of screenshots - my adventurer's log might be the best that I do in that regard. What I really want to do with this is thinking about the game. I just realized that I've been playing this game more than a decade (I don't know the exact date, is there somewhere I can find that?), and I've seen a ton of things happen in there. I guess that what I really want to do is get into what I think about the game, why I'm still playing, and some sort of analysis of various things as they come to mind. I just want to think a lot about a game that means a lot to me and really dig as deep into it as I possibly can. I also think there is enough of people just saying "Hey, look at the drop I got!" or "Look at my skills!" and I want to do something different and add something new to the discussion. But first, let's see if I get anything going in the first place. If I make it past this post, there might be a miracle.

They don't delete accounts. Your username, which you use for logging in, will always remain the same - the display name will be different, however, which you'll need to do when you log in for the first time again assuming that they're taken by other players. There's also the chance to recover them with certain details like credit card numbers used for membership, old passwords or recovery questions - so if you still have any information like that, then you do have a chance.

Getting better at soloing Graardor
The issue would be stalling adrenaline long enough - there's a good amount of time between spawns, at least from my experience, so I'm not sure if I could stall long enough. Also, would it be a good idea to flash to Soul Split when I use the thresholds to get the healing from the higher damage it does? Will buy a few scrimshaws and see how much that helps. I have no experience with QBD and I'm trying to get back into solo bossing with stuff that's a little more familiar first - I haven't really fought any bosses with multiple phases yet, so I'm getting back in without trying something really new right off the bat.

Getting better at soloing Graardor
I've just managed to get 96 summoning, so I now have Pack Yak, Overloads, and Turmoil/Soul Split, and I'm looking to fight Graardor to (hopefully) get enough money for a drygore off-hand. What I'm looking for are improvements to my strategy, since I have a few difficulties getting my trips to last a while. Setup: Barrows helmet (Yes, need a replacement, I know) Bandos Chestplate Bandos Tassets Drygore Mace Enhanced Excalibur (best off-hand I have, unfortunately) Dragon Boots Barrows Gloves (or whatever people call the best Culinaromancer gloves) Cape from Nomad's Requiem Amulet of Fury Warrior Ring So, here are the issues I've been running into: 1) Rocktails don't last that long. I'm considering using Saradomin Brews instead for all healing, since I run out of rocktails very quickly. This might have something to do with the next one... 2) When to use Soul Split: I've been using Deflect Melee while Graardor is alive, then as soon as he dies, kill the sergeants (Steelwill, Strongstack, then Grimspike in that order) with Soul Split on, then use my remaining adrenaline for regenerate. I tried just killing Graardor with Soul Split on, but I was taking way too much damage to make that work. Was I just missing something? 3) Ability bar: I currently have the abilities set up like this: Sever (mostly to lower the damage Graardor does), Backhand, Fury, Dismember, Slice, and Havoc. I also have Assault, Destroy, and Slaughter. My strategy is to use Slaughter as soon as it's available, run so he has to follow me and takes additional damage, then use Assault then Destroy as they become available. Those are the main problems I have/things I'm unsure about when it comes to soloing, and I know that there are a lot of people who have a lot more experience with it than I do, so I'm hoping that I can get some advice here. If there's anything else you need to know about what I'm doing, just ask. EDIT: Also, I have very little cash to use to upgrade what I have. Assume I only have about 5-10m since I spent just about everything this last week to get prayer and summoning.

If you could never be a member again, would you still play?
No - F2P has nothing for me anymore on my account - might be able to find something I like to do on a new account, but not on my current one. I didn't have the money for membership and only came back a few days ago because I don't need to actually pay for membership anymore.

I even do Dungeoneering solo - it's reflected in my level, but it's just my personal preference when it comes to how I play.

25-September-2013 - Runescape Bonds
I don't know, from the perspective of my thousands of hours and changing opinions about the way online games should work, I think it is that simple. I think there's a direction there that's not too difficult to see. Supplement their revenue by tapping into the huge market for Real World Trading without causing a deluge of more money being added to the game by selling it directly. What's wrong with playing it like a single player game? I've done it since I started playing the game in 2003-ish with only occasional excursions into clan-like activities like monster hunting, and I've enjoyed it all along.

25-September-2013 - Runescape Bonds
Okay, I'm realizing now that my last post was a little unclear about what I meant, so I'm going to attempt to lay out the way that I see this and understand what they're doing. This isn't Jagex just adding RWT elements to the game. Instead, they've pretty much converted the game to being free to play with the possibility for microtransactions, which is basically the dominant method of game design and monetization now. The key change is that they added the ability to buy membership with currency in the game, and an item that can be sold for in-game money with real currency. Honestly, a free-to-play with microtransactions model is kind of inevitable for games at this point, though they're currently putting it in here alongside the current subscription model instead of supplanting it entirely, which is a weird in-between that a lot of games developed for the subscription model have to deal with. It's now possible to access the entire game without having to pay real money for it. Sure, the price is probably going to be a little steep (the bonds would have to sell for 15m in order to really compete with gold sellers), but it's still possible, which is a huge change to how some of the game works - I wonder how my 12-year old self would've reacted to this back in 2004, when I wanted membership so badly but had no way of getting access to it. For people who could possibly pay for it, the ability to buy more than just the 7-day trial without having to use real money could also be motivation for them to break down and pay for membership - it's a lot of money if you're not very well-versed in ways to make money, so it'd encourage people to actually pay for membership rather than rely on buying it with gold. However, as you get better at making money, paying something like that might be more worth your time, at which point you pay for it with bonds, which means that each month is paid for with $10 rather than $8, which could be a significant boost in revenue if enough people go in that direction. The other side is buying the bonds to buy money. Whenever I'm working on training up skills that require money, I always find myself in the situation where I'm thinking "It'd be great to cut out making the money", but I've been too paranoid about losing my account to buy gold before. With this, assuming that the price of them goes up eventually (this is actually the opposite of how most items in the game normally work, since the scarce supply means they go up for a long time before settling on some lower price, but this is different because the supply has no bound at the moment and won't stop until people realize they're not getting a good deal), I might actually do that from time to time. What happens when I do? Someone buys it and gets membership (I presume), I get gold, and Jagex gets money. Everyone gets something positive out of the equation, and no items or money are added to the game like they would if there was a straight up store for gold. Honestly, from the moment I saw this, it struck me as a really clever way to sell gold for real money while avoiding some of the other pitfalls that could've gone along with it. Giving the value of it to the players is also interesting, since the only reason someone would buy the bonds for real money is to get gold from them, so the market will eventually decide what they're worth. I'm back in the game now, and I'm really interested in seeing how this'll work out.

This actually brought me back into the game. If there was the possibility of getting the entire game (membership) free but pay for other things, I said to myself that I'd come back to the game. Guess what? It's here now, so I'm back. Just bought a bond for 6.9m to get my membership back. With flipping, I get that money in about an hour, so definitely worth it. I'm actually really interested in seeing how all of this plays out.

They're also a bit discouraging -- for my combat stats, I'm at the point where it's 1m+ exp to the next level. This could take a while.

Kind of back from somewhat of a hiatus
Well, I've been back on RuneScape after somewhat of a hiatus. I lost interest in the game over the summer for various reasons, and I've decided that I want to come back to the game for a while. I bought membership about a week ago and I've been doing a little bit of playing since -- not too much, but some. It's odd -- I took a hiatus over the summer and I'm coming back to it now that I'm back in school, but I believe that I can keep a good balance of things, having gotten good at time management. I know this isn't much to say, but I figured that I'd breathe a little life into this neglected blog.

91 Slayer
I was part of that club until just recently. Just got 99 Constitution at 95 Slayer. I have about 1.4 million constitution experience before I'm out of the club. I like thinking that I have pretty balanced stats (except for dungeoneering, but I just need the amount of time that I'll have free during the summer to get it up), and I've never really thought that I needed to go after a skillcape specifically.

91 Slayer
Well, slayer is now my highest non-combat stat (and only lags behind my melees, constitution, and ranged). It's not a stretch to say that it's my favorite skill in the game. (Got it on an iron dragons task, I love super antifires, they let me absolutely destroy pretty much all dragons, and I've had several dragon assignments in the last couple days) School just ended, and tomorrow will be fun with moving out and going back home, but that's the way things work. I'll have a lot of time to play, but I won't be no-lifing it -- just playing more than I do right now.

The advantages of a touchscreen in RuneScape
Well, I have a HP Touchsmart laptop, and a recent discussion on a different forum led me to see just how fast I can skill with this. I have used it before, but never really testing the limits of it. Well, here's what I've managed to figure out so far (all of these are relatively theoretical and it's very difficult to keep this up for a long time): 72k bolts per hour 7,200 herbs cleaned per hour Firemaking is the same speed, but much easier Unfortunately, it really only speeds up training when you have to click rapidly, similar to mousekeys, but it's much more difficult to right click, so that is a bit of a limitation. Still, I'm really liking these numbers.

A messy free for all
(This isn't any type of post about an accomplishment -- instead, this is more of a "blog about your thoughts" post. Also, everything that I say here (and any future blog posts about boss hunting, unless otherwise specified) refers specifically to soloing bosses -- I haven't killed bosses in a team since sometime shortly after the release of coinshare and I much prefer soloing anyway.) Since I got 89 summoning, I have been living down in the Ancient Guthix Temple, killing Tormented Demons (when I have had the time -- don't have that much, being a college student). They are a perfectly done boss monster -- not hellishly difficult to kill solo (like corp or some of the GWD bosses without really high levels), but unless you know exactly what you're doing, you're going to be toast. However, that makes something else happen -- the biggest danger and most difficult part of killing Tormented Demons: other people. Tormented Demons are notorious for being really good money -- if you can manage ~25 kills per hour (which isn't overly difficult once you get good at weapon and prayer switching), you can make an average of about 3 million per hour (and I mean average -- it takes a large amount of time and all the money is from one relatively rare drop), and with really high levels, it's even possible to kill more than 50 an hour, for an average of around 6 million or more an hour (method shouldn't be that difficult to figure out). Of course, since Tormented Demons are practically made of money, or, to be more accurate, you will be if you spend enough time killing them, people are all over them. Even the servers with the least people are often full. I mostly play at late hours (anywhere from 9 to midnight EST on average), but there are still people there. Even if I find a world with no one there, you can bet that within 30 minutes, a white dot will run right towards me. This is where I get to my main point. I'm not known for liking people much, and this place doesn't do much for my faith in humanity. Etiquette is usually lacking, so if people run over to me, I know that they're going to start killing one of the three demons that I have lured (they're there so they won't pile me, as soon as you kill it it's going to cause a problem) 95% of the time. They're usually also 138s who have no manners, so I can't even fight them for the kill -- I'd just lose. Those people aren't the big problem. I'm fine with them -- there are usually enough low population worlds to hop to, and that's a matter of simple etiquette. I can see why people crash -- there aren't many worlds that are open. It's also consistent with Jagex's stance, which roughly says "Get bigger or get out". I fight the battles that I think I can win, but there are almost none of those down there, even though I'm level 129. The problem are the ones who can't beat me: the lurers. Back when I had just finished While Guthix Sleeps, I tried to kill some tormented demons using a war tortoise full of sharks -- it worked well enough. My second trip down there, however, someone came in and lured the demons that I had put neatly into place over to me so that I was piled. I tried moving around so that I could fight just one, but he kept pulling that demon over until I was in a situation I couldn't escape except by teleporting and was killed. I got back in time to get all my items back, yes, but it is still unnecessary. Is this what is meant by "Get bigger or get out"? I seriously doubt it. But what can be done about it? I'm just supposed to leave or die because some jackass comes in and decides that I'm in the way, without even attempting a fair fight? I just have to roll over and take it? I can't get bigger and make him get out -- I either have to get out or stoop to his level.

90 Slayer, 89 summoning, the fun has begun
Geyser is a really good combat familiar -- there are better, I know, but it makes a huge difference when it comes to multicombat tasks. Just be careful with it on some tasks -- for example, it got killed when I was killing spiritual mages because they just did not miss when they were targeting it.

90 Slayer, 89 summoning, the fun has begun
I use a war tortoise and monkfish to tank irons so that I can bank all the bones. It's a fairly large sum of money.

90 Slayer, 89 summoning, the fun has begun
Maybe it's because I'm so biased towards slayer that I haven't used the unicorn much. I can only see myself using the unicorn at Waterfiends and maybe Strykewyrms, but I'm not completely sure. I guess I'd have to move up to boss hunting (like TDs) before I'd really get a lot of use out of it.

90 Slayer, 89 summoning, the fun has begun
Got summoning to 89 from 74 yesterday and I've put the geyser titan to use in slayer. Am I the only person who finds a geyser titan more useful than a unicorn, or do I just need to use the unicorn more before I come to that conclusion?

97 Const....
That was what I was trying for, and this is the last time I'll pull that trick. I just wanted to see if people would be tricked by that. I still call it hitpoints, I just had to try that.

97 Const....
itution. Also, most recent slayer task: Also, in case anyone cares, since the last update, I have gotten 79 farming, 89 slayer, 91 and 92 ranged, 94 defence (have screenshots, just don't feel like uploading all of them.) That's all for now.
