  1. Hey Shadow. Looks like a neat guide.

I have done all the new quest except for the last battle with Nomad. I have been gathering information as to how others have fought him, fishing rocktail and creating extremes and overloads. I am hearing numerous players say protect melee/mage does not work while fighting him; but only piety or soul-split with turmoil works. I may be misinterpreting since I have not tried it myself; also it might be that they had one protect on when Nomad was using a different combat style. As stated, I have not tried it. Also, I do hear your suggesting no barrows due to the expense in repair should one die; however, I am wondering hos well it might work, especially Guthans for the healing special.

I have been watching my son fight Nomad off and on now for several days. He has extremely high stats and keeps his cool in any fight; however, the fight has been dragging on and on with Nomad running all his hard hits over and over. My son's hits have not been doing much damage, which makes the fight a very long one. Seems the strategies mentioned in various guides are good .. if the fight did not last so long. Thinking now maybe "attack" instead of "stab" may be the way to go with a Zammy spear. Much to consider and I am looking forward to trying out various strategies on this bad boy.

Will certainly give your guide consideration and greatly appreciate your shring it.

Dude, if you can use overloads...from what I've heard if you use overloads, just chug brews in melee range and poke him with a Zamorak spear.

    *looks you up*

Just attack him with Zamorak spear, use karils, soul split and the other high level prayer since you can, chug brews and you have a pretty good chance of winning. So so I've heard of people with your stats. By the way, is your son in melee armour by any chance? Magic armour works the best.

  2. Well, didn't read through the entire thing, but I looked at your posts so I'm pretty sure you haven't done it. Some of your stats are slightly lower then mine, but they shouldn't be low enough to effect much.

Well, you know how to dodge his 75 attack and I assume you can deal with the 4 nomads and the 1hp under max hit.

So, I used karils top/body, fury, ruby e bolts, accumulator, rune c-bow, mages book, guthix dragonhide coif, snakeskin boots, ring of dueling. (I had it on for teleports :P) I took a zamorak spear and I think 4-5 super restores. Rest were saradomin brews, same with my war tortoise. (Might've taken a couple more rests and a couple less brews, not sure on exact invent)

I ranged him, dodging the 75 spec and the mines, getting rid of the duplicates easily enough. When frozen, I used this as a point to drop empty vials and restock from my tortoise. If you range him when frozen, make sure to brew up to the highest possible hp in case ruby (e) effect kicks in when Nomads attack does. Also, DO use this time to drop vials and empty turtle, because I've heard you don't have enough time in Berserker mode. Frankly, my tortoise was empty by that time so I didn't notice.

I used deflect mage and sap mage until berserker mode, then sap melee, pray melee, and sap mage (for no apparent reason) during berserker mode. (I put on mage deflect/sap before I talked to him and had deflect melee, sap melee/mage on quickprayers.)

Also, I was standing far outside melee range during the fight. And his distance attack splashed on me. It was definitely magic, not a magic based melee attack like some people have said. (Who probably spent more time standing beside him then I did.)

  3. I haven't had troubles with the animation interfering with combat, just running. The animations, although cool, can be quite a nuisance. Maybe turn them off during combat? :/

Other then that, curses lower opponents stat, prayers boost yours. Against higher level monsters, curses are usually more useful. In fact, sap/leech prayers might make Jad hit quite a bit less one you o_O

  4. Or, he just finds a reference to a demeaning sexual activity insulting. Would you consider the user name "suck my ****" offensive? Probably. And you should definitely understand why others would, and would almost definitely get offended if someone said it to you. Just because its an acronym doesn't make it any better. And by saying it to your teacher/boss, he meant SAYING it, as in not typing, ie. in person. Should your boss/teacher know what the acronym means, chances are they won't like it.

As for swearing....swears are just words that society has decided are offensive. By teenagers constantly using them, they are slowly changing society's view of the word; a view, however, that the older generation will not embrace. But this is a bit offtopic. I somewhat agree that teenagers use swears too much, but whatever.

    SMD.

    u mad bro?

In all seriousness, if you're actually offended by something a probable 12 year old says on Runescape, you need to get outside more. (Or you're a half decent troll)

According to that logic, YOU are a probable 12 year old.

  5. If your ranging him, you can step out from the mines *carefully* when he puts them on the ground, remember diagonal stepping works. Then, when he charges his 75 attack, you can hide behind a pillar. Don't stay behind there because if you stay there too long, he heals. But this let me avoid the 75 damage.

Also, I was on curses. I'd rather use sap spells then boost spells. 5% or 10% of his defence is more then whatever boost I'd probably get from eagle eye. His attacks before berserker mode are mage (because the hits splash sometimes.) And with me 88? defence, sap melee and deflect melee, I was able to deal some damage on him myself. I'm pretty sure mage prayer also helps on these. Although, if your using normal restore potions, you'll want to use less prayer then I did :P

Just a few tips that helped me.

    Good guide though :)

Also, I reccomend for people to die there a few time in just hides or something, with cheap-ish food, just practicing against his special attacks.

  6. I find range easier not only for the freezing, but because it's easier to dodge the 75 attack, as when he does it I can already be out of the way of the mines. I used brews and restores and a tort full of them all. Something you should know:

His attack splashes on you when it fails. That means it is a magic attack. Karils and ranged gear helps minimize the damage, as well as using deflect mage and sap mage. My first tries ranging I could hardly damage him, but it went much better when I tried high magic defence. (Karils, fury, snakeskin boots, guthix coin, rune c-bow, mage's book.) And accumulator. And rube e bolts. I simply ranged him and used potions when I needed. Also, I used being frozen to drop empty vials and restock from familiar. If you range with ruby e bolts when frozen, keep hp above maximum, just in case your special attack happens when his does. (I heard a guy die by this, so I prepared for that; at one point, I'm pretty sure I lost hp when his special hit but my hp was 105.)

Also, put deflect melee and sap melee on quick prayers. When you get him to beserker mode, you don't (supposedly) have time to restock from familiar, so that's why I do it when frozen. I didn't experience this myself because I emptied my familiar by then.

By the way, you should at least CONSIDER getting 80 prayer before you kill him. I don't know how much of a difference leech defence does, but I bet it'd do something.

Well, that was my strategy. I hope you figure out one that works for you. (My magic level is 94, so that may also have reduced some of his hits...)

I recommend practicing on him, with cheap food until your well-able to deal with his attacks, if you aren't already.

  7. You know, when they say this must make the founding Fathers of the U.S. roll in their graves, I wonder...Is it because they value the freedom of marriage, or because they were homophobes? When you consider what society was like then, it's quite possible they grew up with prejudice originating form society's hatred towards homosexuals.

Not that anyone can probably ever know for sure, but its food for thought.

Personally I see no reason to disallow it. If they're living together, marriage is only a technicality anyways. *(In my opinion,)

  8. Lol, they sell membership cards at my university now... great <_<

I went to school today and didn't see any for sale, but I didn't go into the bookstore where it's probably sold. Still, I find it... weird to say the least of the places they chose to sell the cards, namely my school

I can see it right before me

"I'd like to buy this Playboy and *starts to whisper* can you put an RS Card in it... subtilly?"

    Ahahahahahahahahahahaha! That's awesome!

But seriously I know what you mean >.<

Just say it's for your cousin, or get an ultimate gamer card and just lie about the game :x

  9. Role playing in Runescape is really a joke.

Im not a role player i would never act like my character but its kinda to the point wehre i dont FEEL like im my character. like i agree with the article our first impression is hardly ideal.

We start off breaking the 4th wall (basically telling us were in a game this isnt a real world). We then arrive in a world with no consequences. You can steal from fellow NPCs and kill them at will with no recourse. This is terrible thing to do to a role player. In other games if you want to kill someone in a town ALL the guards will pile you, and the guards are strong enough to make you think twice about doing it. Also the dungeons aiming for account security and new player help fundimentally destroy role playing. How do you emerse yourself in a world only to go somewhere and it tells you to log off and set recovery questions. A role player would be thinking - i am a brave warrior traveling through the barbarian village into a dungeon for treasures and other rewards and then instead of some dark epic plot you get LOLRECOVERIES R GUUD. URR GUNNA GET HACKED DO IT.

Another major problem for role playing for me is the quests. F2p is actually BETTER then members for a role player. I see my role in the world as a new weak adventurer who goes from helping a cook make a cake, to slowly more dangerous and difficult quests. These quests end with me slaying a dragon and being able to wear a legendary Rune Plate. Members on the other hand its hard to get into stories because theres so many quest lines going on. You go from the plauge city series to a completely different plot in the Myreque series. This is a good thing but the lack of a CENTRAL plot in Runescape makes quests more for their rewards then their lore.

I also have a problem with changed lore. The main example that comes to mind is the dragon weapons came from Frankansea (sp?) and then it was changed to something entirely different. WTF

I also have the problem for role playing is just the random inconsistencies. For example why the hell is there a battlefeild in the middle of Kandorian? I understand the khazards are trying to kill the gnomes but it doesnt make sense for some random gnome village to be in the middle of human territory. Another major issue i have with it is Why is the army attacking from the north, when Khazard and port khazard are to the south east of Tree gnome village? Theres lots of little bits of inconsistant stuff like this that bug me to no end.

Role playing seems to be without saving in Runescape. But there are a few thing that do help. Perma-deaths of NPCs. Im a BIG fan of Jagex decision in WGS and Blood Runs Deep. Runescape NEEDED this to create a dramatic level that hasnt been seen before. Another improvement over the years is the music and the adition of ambient sounds. It helps you FEEL like your part of that area.

My suggestion to improve role playing would be, create consequences for killing your allies. I find it ridiculous that you can slaughter 5k white knights and still be loved by them. Or kill everything in the town of lumbridge. You notice no one kills anyone in Miscellania? because this has a negative consequence to it. This should exist throughout Runescape for roleplaying to exist. Another suggestion would be to improve the drama of quest series and - GASP - finish a series? I like that some of the newer quests create a feeling of immanent danger and i would love of this feeling continued. Another suggestion is tweak the ambient sounds to be even more realistic - a little work on that can go a LONG way. Also some of the newer quests have waaay better music quality then before. Zaros stirs sounds AMAZING imo.

Theres a lot more to be said but this is just my general opinion

Discrepancy? It said the dragon weapons originally CAME from Frenaskae (there is no correct spelling to this word) and were MADE by the dragonkin. Therefore, all that is required for those both to work is that the dragonkin originally came from Frenaskae.

In fact, perhaps there are still dragonkin there now supplying faries and monkies with dragon items.

  10. D med just makes it more of a demo. I think they should take a lot of obselete P2P content and slowly merge it into the game. Wave spells, snare/entangle, mystic, blue dragon hide, rune arrows....Then work on high level melee armour...

Personally, I you'd need entirely new content for this stuff. There's a lot of things I think F2P could use tbh....

Mystic,. blue dragonhide, rune arrows, wave spells, snare entangle, level 50 melee armour to not make corrupt items obselete, magic bows, normal level potions (attack, strength...but you'd need something for range/mage too IMO to keep it balanced O.O)

    Rawr. I'm going to bed.

Note that most things on that list are pretty much obselete anyways, except for mage/range potion.

    And yes KBD :P

    And chaos alter?

  11. Being relatively inexperienced in the world of Roleplaying games, I have a few questions I would legitimately like answered by those who know more about it.

To what extent does any roleplaying game actually immerse the player into a new world?

No game can immerse you in an alternate world or alternate reality any more than you can imagine it, nor any more than you will allow it, nor any further than you are willing to allow it. I've been playing Dungeons and Dragons, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (Not the newest version owned by Hasbro, the TSR games) and about 20 other role playing games for longer than a lot of Runescape players have been alive. I started playing in about 1979, give or take. I've had Dungeon Masters who were excellent, I've had DMs who were bloody awful, and I've run games for players from skilled to amazing to utterly rank. A roleplaying game an not take you any further into another world than you allow it, first of all, not matter how skilled the game master (or program) but the other huge stumbling block is the other players.

If you have a group of six people sitting at the table, paper and dice everywhere, and five of them are very into the roles they are playing, the last player can ruin the whole thing. Imagine to your right is a person playing an elven wizard who is speaking with a fake accent, acting like their character (Inasmuch as you can act in a chair) and really getting into the game. On your left is a guy in a New York Yankees hat, blabbering about his baseball team, chugging strawberry soda and cramming his face with pork rinds. The Yankees fan is going to spoil the whole mood. You can't suspend your disbelief and let yourself really feel like you're talking to an elf when you're flanked by a belching oaf whose role playing skills peak at knowing which one is the six-sided die.

That's my personal problem with roleplaying in Runescape. I have never met anyone who wanted to actually try to role play their character in any way. Characters talk about game mechanics, real life and other things they should never know. For me it's pretty much impossible to stay in character when there is no-one to be in character with; when nobody else in in character at all. If there was a roleplaying clan, a well known and exclusive roleplaying world or even area within another world, someplace where characters can actually talk to one another in character without having some goon laughing and doing everything he can to bring everyone back to reality. Well, as back to reality as you can get when in a game, I mean.

I think a problem with roileplaying in the Runescape is the games that have been out for consoles and computers for years now that called themselves "role playing games." They were fantasy games, but you didn't play a character. You just controlled one. The kids (I am almost 40 years old, I can call a lot of, maybe most, Runescape players "kids.") who never played any rpg that made them sit at a table with nothing but books, paper and dice never had a way to learn how to play a character. They assumed that Final Fantasy 7 was really a role playing game. They were handed their character, they made him move around, they did the job, they finished the game. They never learned to talk in character because they never had the chance to do so. They think they are playing their character when they set him to chopping a tree and discuss what happened at school that day with their buddies. If you never learned that your character is not you, if you never learned that your character does not know what you know, you can't really play a role as such. You can just control a character.

If anyone wants to actually try to get into character with me in Runescape, look for Xinix Xaxx. That's my character's name, at least the character I am most likely to be playing. Just make sure you type "out of character" text in parentheses (like this, you know) so I know when you're talking to Xinix and when you're talking to me, ok? B-)

The problem is "role playing" is very loosely defined. In most video games, you are playing the "role" of a fantasy character and thus it is a role playing game. Nothing like dungeons and dragons though. I wouldn't mind trying that someone if I found a bunch of other nerds :P

Whilst I too find things like the enforced Zamorakian alignments for the some of the most commonly used methods for Runecrafting (Abyss and ZMI) irritating, I would be much more frustrated if through some earlier decision to align with Saradomin/Guthix/Bandos/Armadyl etc I was then unable to access these two areas.

If you were "aligned" with Zamorak to use the ZMI, why do all the damned Zamorak worshipers attack you? Huh?

  12. Now I just don't get why some people do this, It is some what creepy, because it could very well be the act for a internet predator on the hunt.

Now to my surprise while reading through the rules, I noticed that asking someone to be your BF/GF is not allowed, So if you share the same reasoning as me, or just simply dislike them, then report them.

Now I have a few friends from school who are of a female gender, and they play Runescape, some of the story's I have heard about guys wanting them, some sick and disturbing, others just plain immature and rather sad...

What's your views on this matter? Oh and please don't say Ignore it, I would, but I feel for the girl who's getting asked this questions and trying to get away from then.

[This debate also applies for girls who ask boys out, but I found this less common]

    Replying to the bolded parts.

Ok, just throwing it out there, take this how you will...I think most internet predators aren't dumb enough to go around asking "will you be my gf" on runescape. They, or at least the smart ones in any case, would realize that this has little chance of working. I think they'd try a more subtle way.

As for the sick and disturbing guys...The internet is a place where it's easier to be sick and disturbing without chance of consequence. And frankly, some people are just crazy.

Main reasons I think it's a bad idea is because you can't know who is behind the keyboard. I have heard cases of relationships blossoming from RS...but...I get the impression from these that you just MEET the person on rs, and get to know them more first.

Random people asking 'Do you want to be my gf?' just tick me off. They're only in it for money, and they're never going to get anywhere. However, this isn't to say that the Internet cannot be a medium for a relationship.

I mean, if you browse Off-Topic at all, you know Merci and Suzi. They met over TIF, and they're in a solid relationship now, living with each other at one or the other's home for lengths of time. I think the longest they've been apart since they first met face-to-face is three weeks. They have a healthy relationship, and it started on the Internet. What's wrong with that? Nothing. If you get to know the person first, and then find that you might have feelings for them because of the Internet, set up a webcam conversation, or get their Facebook or something similar. It's not hard to do, and you can verify they are who they say they are (unless they're like me and don't have Facebook, Myspace, a webcam, or anything of the sort, but for the sake of the discussion, we'll realize that I'm the exception, not the rule). Once you've done that, you actually do know them, and a meeting in-person can be arranged any time. Is there any problem with that? Not at all.

I have gotten close to guys in-game, but I have never dated anyone, and I never will.

I feel the same, actually. Not to say that it shouldn't happen, but I already said, I have no way to get to know them or see them over the Internet and so it's impossible for me. But, I suppose, to each their own.

Although I think there is nothing wrong with that, I have two things to say.

    1.) Be very careful.

2.) There is a difference between meeting someone on RS who you eventually have a relationship with , and having a RS gf/bf.

3.) This has nothing to do with anything you said. I think the person who said that we should teach children to spot dangerous scenarions and people rather then teach them not to trust strangers was onto something. Plus, in most kidnaping cases, it is actually someone the kid knows. Maybe a family friend, or a handy man because the house is getting renovated. Then theres all the parental kidnappings, when one parent kidnapps the kid as a result of a messy divorce.

Online dating in RuneScape = FTL imo. Online dating? Meh, I don't have much of an opinion of it, but then again you'll never see myself asking for a hawt gf. -.- Online dating is not right in my eyes. I, for one, think it's unhealthy, ODD, potentially dangerous, and only in the right enviornment do I believe that it has potential. (I'm thinking ACTUAL online dating services like E-Harmony.) But on RuneScape? Maybe it's all fun and games for the younger generation, but I see no interest or any point for myself.

There is a very large and distinct difference between online dating and meeting someone online. Personally, if I ever ended up using one of these services, I wouldn't consider us to be "dating" until we meet in real life and have a real date. However, I stress upon the difference between meeting someone on line and dating someone online. The online world can be a good place to meet people providing your smart about it.

Offtopic: I am eating too much chocolate. Too much Christmas candy.

  13. When meleeing Iron drag's is is nessicary to pray protect melee? Or can I save some money and use barrows + antifires + some high level food.

It isn't necessary to use pro melee....But you'd probably need to do plenty of trips if you just did barrows armour + food. One trip is all you need with prayer.

Have you considered ranging with antifires? If you can use broad bolts it shouldn't be too expensive.

  14. Before you complain about how few updates there have been around Christmas, please ask yourself how much YOU have been working (or studying, if your still in school) around Christmas.

Also, if the *only* reason you play RS is for new content, you should take a break for like 6 months. Or a year. Well, that's just be, but there should be enough to keep you occupied when you get back.

  15. The mint cake acts as an assurance, it's purpose is to attempt to stabilise the G.E. so that people don't worry about their other rares/expensive items from dropping, it's removal will create wide-spread panic. Plus it would take ages for things to stabilise again. Think of it like a single screw in an airplane, which that screw doesn't serve much of a purpose by itself, without it the plane will fall apart and crash.

The mint cake assures nothing. It serves no purpose whatsoever. The only things that could stabilize the G.E. would be complete control by Jagex, or if people stopped abusing it. I guarantee you, they could make the mint cake untradable right now and nothing would be effected. Its more like the imaginary screw in the plane that does nothing but fool people.

Not too knowledgeable on economics are you? Every economy is based around 1 item, in this case mint cakes, without which the economy is based on no 1 item. This would cause items as well as commodities fluctuate until a new item took the mint cake's place.

I HIGHLY doubt the games ecnomic security is based on the mint cake. The economy would survive were it to be removed.

Not that I think removing from trading would do any good, the effects would probably be purely negative. But it wouldn't kill the economy. All I'm saying.

And, not that I've taken many economic classes, but the concept of every item being based around one item seems completely ludicrous to me. Unless by that item you mean money, which has no value in itself and is but a tool to facilitate trade.

  16. It's a little late for a class system. Although Jagex could do some class work, along with fixing the combat triangle some, there is only so much one can do with a "class system" in a game where a person can max out each and every single skill and "class." I think the first steps though, would be changing the combat triangle some.

Also, I think that any lack of role-playing is probably due more to the players then Runescape. People seem more interested in skills and armour then in anything else.

    Fictional looks pretty cool :)

  17. Never, EVER kill the brawlers that people specifically lured to protect the knight. Especially on a VETERAN boat, which I'm guessing is the one you use with 80+ melees. Brawlers are the key to winning 99% of the time, so please, just don't kill them and ruin the game for everyone else.

PS. this is a rare case in which i think the term noob is correctly used on you, you ruin the game for them first, so they ruin your game. All's fair.

Until now, I have never, ever heard of using brawlers as a winning technique, despite having full void and having used PC to gain quite a few levels. I may have seen it once, but just once. Personally, I think brawlers should mostly be left alone because they aren't a big threat. Sometimes they can really get in the way to me though...

The only people I really dislike at pc are the ones that tell you to kill the portal instead of the spinners. Now, I admit, occasionally there is a scenario where that is actually what you should do; if, say. you have half the people attacking the last portal and the knight has low hp. But, still....Some people don't realize the spinners are a threat.

I think that if people lose on official worlds, its because of people not killing spinners, or not having enough defenders. Mainly.

  18. I do not comprehend in any way why people are disappointed due to the reward that has no practical usage and the fact that it's untradeable. I mean, it's not like you didn't see it coming. Jagex has been doing that with every event since the scythe and bunny ears, before I ever started playing. And I've been playing for probably 4 years now (first holiday item was the rubber chicken.) I mean, it's not like it comes as a shock. If you think the holiday events are a useless waste of time, well, don't do them. I don't think Jagex will ever make a "true" holiday event useful. Although, there have been holiday quests....

Also, I usually ignore the cries for help because, more often then not, people cry for help because they're too lazy to figure it out instead of trying it. Plus its just too crowded >.<

I feel like a bah humbug now >.<

The did-you-know is something I'm pretty sure 99% of scapers haven't run into :)
