  1. I have mixed feelings about this one...i think the making excuses for customer service is ridiculous. The part that talks about how Jagex needs some help with their company is good (they need more CS). The whole "you pay $5 and expect $5000 worth of service" is just plain ridiculous. You know why we pay $5? Because that's what they are asking. Bottom line is, we are purchasing what they are selling and therefore they should offer decent customer support (regardless of price), easy as that. Lol you people need to think about this. $5 a month is $60 bucks a year. That is more than a ps2 game costs. Companies that produce ps2 games have a MUCH higher overhead than Jagex. The, ehrm, more professional companies have MANY more employees, and they have to pay for advertising AND they have to pay for the cost of making the game CDs, manuals, jewel cases, etc. Now, Jagex does have to pay to keep their servers up, which is a significant cost, but it doesn't compare to the corporate overhead and production overhead that other companies need to pay. The point is, Jagex is coming out incredibly well with the "only $5 a month". I've said it before, and i'll probably say it again. If Jagex is going to play in the big leagues then they need to play professionally, and at this point they aren't. Sure, they are happy to take more people's money, but they aren't willing to pay for improved Customer Service? That's not a professional business model. They've been called up to the majors and they are still playing bush league. You either adapt to new circumstances or you go bye-bye... The core of the game is great, no doubt. But the game is not a professional product at this point. The game needs polish ( the many glaring spelling and grammar errors, naming inconsistensies, etc), the customer service is lacking, the lack of communication with the community on important issues (ex. proof for banning) is unsatisfactory, the website is clunky, the chat censor is hands down the worst i've ever seen in my life, obvious old bugs should be fixed (ex the moonwalking, especially since they banned some guy for mentioning michael jackson, haha), reaction time to banning autoers is way too slow (after they've already flooded the market with their goods), etc., etc. They need to stop releasing pointless quests every week and spend that time polishing the game to professional standards. They need to revamp their customer service: They need numerous mods available 24/7. The mods need to actively seek out rulebreakers and use this super cheat detecting technology that Jagex tells us they have to ban them (or at least kick them until proof can be established) right on the spot. Players should be able to communicate with these mods directly while playing. They should get rid of ambiguous rules that allow for banning with no proof. When players are banned the proof used to justify the ban should be presented to them instead of just telling what rule they supposedly broke. Appeals should be taken more seriously. If an appeal is denied still without sufficient proof, then the appeal should be allowed to be presented to a "higher court" so to speak. This is just where they need to start... there are many more things that need to be fixed. I know someone is gonna say "you're just made cuz you got banned!" But that's not true, i've never been banned, muted, locked, hacked, anything like that. I have had to (try to) communicate with customer support in the past though, and it's been a terrible experience. I have only received automated responses from them, and sometimes the responses weren't even relevant to what i sent them. Plus, the current paranioa about being banned from innocent things like one sided trades for letting someone borrow an item or giving gifts is unnacceptable too. I have business experience and experience with the game industry and i am simply objectively discussing problems that i see and i am also suggesting solutions to them.
  2. LOL! Tropical = warm and lots of rainfall Desert = Hot and VERY dry, little rainfall.
  3. I agree with the original post. Plus, i think not allowing drop trading or transfer between characters is stupid...i mean what difference does it make? You spent the time, no matter on what character, to get that skill level or item or whatever...But oh well, it'll never be changed.
  4. Hmm, can't say i really understood much, as i have been gone from rs for about 2 years, and i stopped pking once rs2 came out, so i don't know what this whole altar fiasco was about... I liked the music in it though. Also whoever said it was too big...it took me a bit over 3 mins to dl the biggest version...must be your connection.
  5. Historically, spears were actually used for long range melee, if anything should be able to used like the halberd it, it should be the spear too.
  6. I think your principle is right: you want to be able to do something about autoers. I've felt that way myself a million times, you just wish you could get ahold of jagex themselves and have them come see for themselves. Jagex needs to hire mods to be available 24/7. In a game i played in the past (America's Army), they had a way that while you were playing you could directly contact an admin/mod and tell them why you suspected someone of cheating, and then they would come to the server and check it out themeslves. It worked great. This would work wonderfully for RS...You contact an admin/mod, they can use their super Jagex fancy technology to maybe take a screenie or observe the person, and if warranted, they can come check it out themselves. At that point the mod could use the rest of the super Jagex technology power that magically detects autoers 100% of the time (sarcasm) right there on the spot and then kick/ban the player if found to be breaking any rules, and ta da! The autoer/whatever is taken care of quickly and their negative impact is eliminated vs. the current Jagex lets autoers go crazy for a couple months and flood the market, THEN ban the autoers  strategy. I know someone is going to say "omg that'd be way too expensive to hire mods to be available 24/7"...But the fact of the matter is that if Jagex wants to play in the big time, then they have to invest big time to do things right and stop this half rear ended customer support/security/witch hunting.
  7. Wow...Do you remember the kid that no one liked in grade school that tattled on everyone? Yeah, no one likes a tattle tail for something so small. Now reporting is useful when it's for serious stuff, but this is just petty. Jagex specifically states that you shouldn't report unless you are genuinely offended...they might not think you were genuinely offended if they see you posting it screenshot and laughing about it... In real life are you going to call the police because someone said something about your mother? Learning to ignore people on your own is a valuable skill...
  8. Yeah, i've played CS for longer than RS...Personally i hate all novelty add ons to it such as WC3...The CS community i knew back when the twin pistols came out absolutely threw a fit because that is so unrealistic...Naturally i'm sort of the same way, so silly mods like WC3 i tend to dislike. I like pure, official CS, the same thing they play at the CPL...
  9. As for him taking a year or two off...BIG DEAL. His degree is in a field that there is always a demand for jobs and they are always quite well paying. I know MANY people who either take a year off in college or once they are done with college. So what if someone takes a year off and goes out to bars every night or goes backpacking through europe or if someone takes a year off and plays RS...as long as it's something they like. I know of certain fields that look favorably upon taking a year off...They see it as time for you to really decide if you want to do what you went to school for... The 10-12 hours a day...Come on people...I'm suprised it wasn't higher. I know Zezima consistently was on for more like 16-18 at one point...I'm forgetting that most of you can't count too. If he spends 10 hours on a day, that still leaves 6 HOURS of free time (if he gets 8 hours of sleep a night). With that 6 hours he very well could have a part time job or go out with friends every night... Personally i see this guy being way more of a socially adjusted and normal person than say Zezima.
  10. RS name: DetroitWha Reason: I lost like 300 worth of stuff:( I went to fight Skeletor, and i know he's really strong, so i asked someone what to wear. I brought with my mask set because i heard red mask gives you super high str, and blue gives super high att and green gives super high def. I brought my blue phat because skeletor breathes fire and someone told me blue phat is blue because it is water and water puts out fire so it is magical cure for all firebreathe. I brought my santa hat because the same persson told me that if you wear santa hat then you can fly away like you are santa on his sleigh, so i thought i could maybe range him from the sky and he couldn't hit me. I wore dragon chain because i poisoned the [bleep]es on it, so when he tried to melee me he'd poke his hand and get poisoned. I didn't bring any food because i figured i would be invincible. Before i went to fight him i attacked someone in wild to get skull to look even more super mean. I brought my kitty that i was very close to because he was my only friend and good luck. So i went in to fight skeletor and he 3 hitted me 38-40-dead, and while i was falling down dead he ate my kitty kat too :( So i lost my only friend in the world and all my items i worked so hard for...Now all i have is a brass necklace that i try to trade for a phat on world 2 but no one ever accepts. So i guess i need your help to get me back on my feet because i am going into training to be a lumberjack like the one in little red riding hood so i can go fight skeletor again and cut his belly open and get my kitty kat back. And then someday maybe i can get back all my items i lost because they were my life.
  11. That was hands down the worst acting i can remember ever seeing. The guy's voice was incredibly annoying, monotone, and at as slow of a rate as someone who has down syndrome. If you want to see actually funny and well done videos about videogames (they cover real time strategy games, mmorpg, and fps), go to http://www.purepwnage.com The first episodes you probably won't like unless you have played RTS, but i HIGHLY recommend the FPS Doug episode (ep. 5 i believe). If you download the FPS Doug episode, probably skip the first 6 minutes or so since that contains mostly plot from previous episodes. Once it gets to about 7:00 or so it's hilarious.
  12. I like the idea behind the whip...but i just wish the weapon wasn't a stupid whip... I mean i like the idea of a fast and strong attack weapon...But omg, a whip is not a feasible weapon by a long shot. Lol, imagine in real life trying to whip someone with platemail on and has a real sword coming at you...If you even hit with the whip correctly (virtually impossible to hit a moving target and the whip has very narrow range that it is effective for, ex if someone gets close you are messed up big time), it wouldn't even dent platemail... I guess i understand that jagex would have a hard time coming up with a new weapon or type of weapon to put in the game, though. Anyway, yes i think at some time there will be a better overall weapon than the whip in the game, but probably not for a decent while.
  13. Hmm, last time i checked, newspapers are private businesses and they have the right of freedom of press...Unless when i was asleep The New York Times became government run...
  14. Sorry, but i don't think there was any justification for what the father said/did. To say that there is absolutely something wrong with me for playing this game and interacting with younger people (not even by my choice) is pure ignorance. There's a difference between playing the same game and hanging out in real life...It's basically like saying that i have no right to play the game because i am 19/whatever. Part of the game is interacting with other players, it's even forced in some cases. I have the right to play the game as much as anyone else, and since player interaction is required, it's unavoidable that i'll eventually interact with younger people. I'm a nice person, so if the younger person wants to add me to their friends list and they seem like a decent person, then i say go ahead... Our discussions were kept to ingame, unless the kid brought up something else, like for example math homework, which i would help him with. If i were asking to hang out with him in real life, then yes i could see a problem, but i did nothing but help the kid. I saw myself as a mentor...would you think it was justified if some parent went to the big brother/sister foundation and started telling them that they are all perverts for wanting to help younger people? I'm all for parents watching over their kids. But, the parent had no right to tell me that i am FOR A FACT a pervert just for by chance interacting with someone younger than me in a game. The parent should have asked his kid if I had ever tried to ask him to hang out in real life or anything weird like that. The parent should have told the kid to go by the same rules and precautions that all kids should go by on the internet. It doesn't matter if someone on the internet tells you they are 12 too, they could just as easily be a real pervert that actually is much older and just lying about it.
  15. BTW people, Jagex could TRY to sue for defamation/libel/slander/whatever (if they could even find a lawyer to take their case), but they would NOT WIN. That is because in order to win a case like that, you have to PROVE that the person you are suing was not telling the truth about you just to make you look bad. Now, since the article was an OPINION, you can't sue someone for their opinion. On top of that, since Jagex wouldn't be able to absolutely prove that they do not ban in an inconsistent manner in court, they wouldn't win the case anyway. Also, just because this website is a RS fansite, does not mean in anyway that Jagex has the right to any power over it, which someone previously said in this thread. Because this site is an UNOFFICIAL fan site, it has no connection with Jagex and Jagex has no control over it. Basically all this site is is people getting together and talking/posting/whatever about something, and we all have the right to that... Also, the reason for taking the article down for "Not being right"...it's sorta fishy that no one thought it was "not right" until the site was threatened by Jagex...
  16. Heh, i'm 20 now...I had a really bad experience being called "too old". I was 18 or 19 at the time and obviously since lots of young people play rs, i had a friend on rs that was like 12. He must have told his dad he had an 18 or 19 year old friend on RS...His dad made him get on rs and let his dad talk to me... and his dad freaked out on me about how there is no good reason that i should be playing a game for kids and i shouldn't be friends with a 12 year old and i must be be a pervert because of that... Yeah, it's really aggravating when the actual parents think there is something wrong with me for it...
  17. Does anyone have the original "Biased Banning Raises Eyebrows" article saved or have a link to it? If so, please either post it or pm it to me as i would like to read it. Thanks.
