It's pretty simple I think. You NEED a team to be able to kill the bosses (except for the zammy one, but it isn't really profitable to killit solo). Really, no one below your level would go and team with you if the drops were untradeble. And thus, if you get a shard, only 1 player of the team will benefit from it, that would just be unfair. And 2nd, if it was untradelbe people who have gotten the sword already would not return to the gwd anymore. Such a big update isn't meant to be left behind just because you got a sword already.
