Log of Vasily Zhukovski, Commanding officer of the Terran Empire Ship Pegasus and protector of the colonial mission on Astare 4. Mission was a success if viewed solely on paper. I have a feeling there were more of the Sarlane's crew aboard the pirate's destroyer ship, but I wasn't willing to take the time to finesse a boarding party out of the 8 available crewmembers and somehow mount a rescue from that ship. All told though, it ended up well enough as the majority of the Sarlane's commanding officers were aboard the escort ship, same same shattered ship that is now being towed behind the Pegasus back to the colony so the colonial management can decide what to do with it. They want a ship of their own to defend the colony, which seems a silly idea to me, considering that is what the Pegasus was commissioned for, but if they truly do decide to repair the escort and claim it as their new defender it's likely to free up some of my time to finally go after those pirates nestled somewhere around Astare 8. At least the British would be receptive to that. Though, there's still the matter of Astare 3's 50,000 infected colonists to deal with. The Sarlane was sent to land outside the colony and hopefully most of the colonists will be in stasis when we arrive, preventing the infection from overwhelming their body before we could manufacture enough of the cure, but who knows when the *ahem* thing in charge of the factories on Astare 3 is nothing less than a mad robot hell bent on designing some sort of 'perfect weapon'. All in all it seems to be an interesting assignment I've drawn lots to, better than piloting a garbage ship from Terra to Ceres and back again at least. Hopefully the colony gets up and running soon, because I still need resources for the Pegasus' external shield emitters. It's got a magnificent shield battery, but nothing to send that raw power to defend the ship, so is all but useless. Would also be nice if they started sending me trained personnel, or just people that I could train myself. A heavy destroyer should not have to suffice on a crew that could be counted on a man's two hands. Vasily out.
