what's best f2p stuff for different classes?
fire_mage_9 replied to diddle's topic in Help and Advice
Another alternative for the mage legs is a shade robe, i think it is just as good as a monks robe bottom (perhaps -1 prayer less?) -
does xp or level determine how fast you do something?
fire_mage_9 replied to Hittori's topic in Help and Advice
I think that it is level only, because a few exp more or less would really make little difference. If you are the same level you are evenly matched. -
Good point, I completely forgot to rate ur guide, sry bout that #-o I thought that it was pretty good, and it addressed some good ways to make money. Even though it needs a few corrections, it is quite a good guide. So keep up the good work

~~Newer Bank Of Runescape~~ **Updated again 05/15/09**
fire_mage_9 replied to Thagern's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
This has to be one of the best suggestions I have ever read. I can see you have put lots of time and effort in it. Good job, and I hope Jagex accepts your idea  -
I think that for f2p, mining iron is the best way to make money for lower levls. Firstly, mining iron is much faster than silver, and it sells for 80-100ea. Also, when you reach levl 45 mining, you are able to mine iron in 1 hit with a rune pickaxe, making it far more efficient than coal or almost any other ore (except pure ess on p2p). Also, there is a much larger market for iron than there is for silver, so you can sell it quicker. Also, you do NOT need membership to make str potions in the way you have outlined in method 3. Members have the option to make them with herblore, but this requires different ingredients altogether. I think that about sums up my corrections, perhaps you should add these to your guide, and fix the parts I mentioned.

Thx alot for your suggestions ppl, I might try out some of the places you mentioned. I am not overly fussed about losing arrows, just as long as I get fast exp :D Do you think I should continue to use iron arrows, or should I change to something else :?:

I have been trying to train range for a while now, but I've been having trouble trying to find a good place to train. My range levl is 56 (almost 57), and I have been training on the hobgoblins near the crafting guild, using iron arrows. I also wear full dhide and use a maple shortbow. If anyone knows of a better place to train (in terms of exp per hour), plz let me know :)

Yes, I tried merchanting God Armour once... It was the biggest mistake of my life #-o Stick with iron all the way \
-
No, blood runes are only used for p2p spells (namely air wave, water wave, earth wave, fire wave and other higher levled damage spells, and perhaps ancient magic :?: ). The best runes f2p can use are death runes, used for casting blasts.

I started to merchant iron when I had 600k, and I got to 1M in less than a day. Simply buy iron for 60-80ea, and sell for 100ea (110ea on rs forums). This way you can make quick money, and eventually start merchanting God Armour (not reccomended) or rares. I hope this helps

what's best f2p stuff for different classes?
fire_mage_9 replied to diddle's topic in Help and Advice
Firstly, NEVER wear vambraces when using magic, they give you a large negative bonus to magic. Use gloves, they have no effect on magic. The Stronghold of Security boots also have a negative bonus for ranged attacks, and perhaps magic atks too. Apart from that, you have got it all right =D> -
I think you'd be better off selling the iron for 200k and buying iron bars, because smelting iron is a pain. With 2k iron ore, you'd be lucky to get 1k iron bars (however, if you are p2p and can get rings of forging, make the bars and smith). People can buy/sell iron bars for as low as 150ea, so you can get 1.3k iron bars from 200k, which is alot better than 1k or less just smelting. However, if you buy bars, you forfeit the extra exp of actually smelting them yourself, so in the end it's up to you.

If you want to mine ess for yourself, you can mine it by being teleported to the ess mines by Aubrey in Varrock rune shop. You need to complete the Rune mysteries quest first. To buy ess, go to Varrock east bank in World 1 or 3.
-
I believe that the price for rune essence varies from 20-30gp ea. Normally you should have no problem buying for 20ea, but if you are trying to buy on World 1 or 3, I'd suggest buying for 25ea. That way you will get more buyers. I hope that helps

Whats the easiest 99 for f2p besides cooking?
fire_mage_9 replied to superway25's topic in Help and Advice
Woodcutting is quite fast, as long as you stick with willows, but firemaking is muck faster. However, it requires a lot of clicking. So it's up to you. -
If you don't want to quit runescape, try and find something that you haven't done yet, maybe a new quest, or perhaps a skill which you haven't trained much yet? Runescape is a large game, and there are many things to do. You could always go pking, if you can afford a new weapon. I might be able to help you more if I knew exactly what you were doing to make money, after all, there may be much faster and easier ways to make fast cash. However, if nothing seems to work, there is always the option of quitting. Then again, this does not have to be permanent, as you may simply need a break to revive your interest in the game. There are many options available, it is up to you to decide which option you want to take.

From my calculations, if you trained 3 hours a day on weekdays, and 7 hours a day on weekends, it would take you a total of 20 weeks to reach 99 strength (assuming you kill 2 spiders per minute). That would be roughly 4-5 months. However, I think that playing 29 hours a week is quite alot, and would be very hard to do, but if you can manage, good luck, but i'd suggest reducing the time on the weekends to maybe 5 hours each day. Then it would take longer (23 weeks), but would be a little more realistic. I hope this helps you out a bit

I'm sure you will have no problem killing the dragon with those items, but you will have to be careful when getting past the volcano, as there are many aggressive monsters which could be dangerous if you are on low health (eg. lessers). However, if you have some food left over, you will be fine.

Just be patient and check the runescape site every now and then. Eventually they will post the Halloween mini with details on everything you need to know in order to get started. After all, Halloween is on October 31st, so it's still quite a while till then.

I'm glad to hear that drapit. Happy to have helped :D

Goat's Budget Training 2: Playing with knives
fire_mage_9 replied to death_goat2's topic in General Guides
Nice guide for training on a budget, but I think you should've aimed it for people of lower levels. After all, someone with 60 range and full red of black dhide would have to have a decent amount of money (unless they spent it all on their armour :shame: ). But then again, it could easily be used by someone of a lower range level, but they would simply have to forfeit the extra range bonus. Otherwise, very good guide, and it will no doubt help anyone who is short of cash  -
I'd suggest cutting oaks till 50 wc. Then proceed to cut willows at draynor, as there are many willow trees there, and a bank right next to them, which makes banking a breeze. Another spot is just beside Port Sarim bar. Cut willows for as long as you want. Do NOT cut yews, as they are painfully slow to cut, and are swamped with macroers. This equals poor exp, and they only sell for 200ea now. I'd continue to cut willows and then either burn them to train firemaking, or sell them to other players for 30gp ea.
-
I'd say that a good place to train is against the Level 28 Minotaurs in the Security stronghold. There is a wall/fence which you can stand behind, and range minotaurs on the other side. They also drop lots of iron arrows, which is very helpful if you want to train for a long period of time. Minotaurs have quite a lot of hp, and have a low defence, so ranging them should be easy. I'd suggest bringing food just in case something happens (eg. You get a Shade from burying bones, or you somehow get attacked by a minotaur). I hope this helps

need help on crafting in f2p and smelting in f2p
fire_mage_9 replied to mark63534's topic in Help and Advice
I found that the most efficient way to train crafting was to buy cowhides for 100ea, tan them into hard leather, and make hardleather bodies. And to train smithing, either mine iron and coal and make steel bars, or simply mine, smelt and smith iron. If you make steel bars, sell them for 550-600ea. This way you get smithing exp, a nice profit, and enough money left over to buy more ores \ This should get you levls really quickly. Good luck! -
Nowadays, cutting yews is really hard in f2p, due to the immense amount of wcing macroers. Getting yews can take ages, and is very slow, and the price of them has dropped to little over 200ea. Quite bluntly, anyone would be lucky to get 150-300 yews an hour, depending on the concentration of macroers. If you are p2p, then it is a different story. In p2p with a rune axe, I'd think that you should be able to get 500-600 yews an hour, possibly more with a d axe, which is probably the best you are going to get. Anyway, i gave up on yews a long time ago, as they were simply far too inefficient to cut (im f2p). I'd cut willows to 80, then train another skill if you want money (eg. mining) or continue to cut willows. However, the choice is up to you.
