Ok so one day like normal i go to gonnect to irc. I can connect to the first few just fine but when i try connecting to irc.chat-addict.net this happens. And it does this trying again and again until its tries 100 times and then stops. Corey at chat-addict has checked all his settings and nothing seems to be wrong at his end, other people on my isp (BT Broadband) connect fine. Today i tried connecting to another irc server that ive never tried before and i got k-lines because apparently i had a "Spoofed IP" How do i go about fixing this, this is possibly the reason why i cannot get onto chat-addict. I have done the following so dont post saying to do any of this stuff. Soft and Hard reboot of the router Reset the router Disconnected the router Updated the firmware Checked router settings Closed firewall and tried to connect I am not using a proxy It was working fine one day and not the next, I have not changed any settings. I do not have a virus and i do not have any spyware. Don't patronise me by asking for a HJT log. Thanks in advance for any help.

possibly but then over 80% of the ppl signed up to this forum have less than 10 posts so arnt taking up hardly and bandwidth anyway. 5% of the active users could be in the range of 400 people. if 100 ppl buy an avatar and 300 ppl buy an avatar and sig then tipit could have over $6500. Which would certainly help pay hosting costs. I fail to see how it would drivers users away. $5 for an avatar is pennies thats about ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã2.64 in england. You cant even get a pint of beer for that in same places. For an entire YEAR. I dont know how much tipit actually makes from advert revenue but even at half those stats tipit having $3250 would mean less horrible adverts for us all.

have you uninstalled iGuird Security yet? Go to the C:\ drive and try and delete WP[Caution: ExecutableFile] and WP.bmp if they are there. Then delete those registry entries like i said or merge the one i posted

If you bothered searching you'd have found multiple posts including an answer by Andrew Gower himself. Jagex are working on the issue. In the mean time its best to play using the runescape client.

Im sure I personally dont raise $20 a year in adverts but i would with the privalidge system. Its something that should be seriously considered by the staff.

Id quite like to go back to TP, i havnt been for many years now. I did go to alton Towers last year and really enjoyed myself. I love thrill rides, really gets me excuted. I loved all the rides when I went to America a few years back ^_^

At B3ta they also have this scheme whereby instead of adverts all over the place to make money (they have one google ad on the front page) they have "donation icons" When you donate you get to chose a little icon to put in your sig/name. the more you donate the more mini icons you get to choose from. this is a great way of making money. It means that on b3ta we dont get horrible adverts all over the place and we all get to have cool little icons. Tip.it could perhaps do a similar thing here and have something put into the avatar section for when we post. It would encourage donating and then if it works well maybe even tipit can remove the despisable adverts.

Note how those are highly targeted ads with non intrusive designs and yet they most likely get more click throughs than most of the ones shown on tipit. Targeted ads are they way forward. Leaving it up to 3rd party companies only ends in disaster for both publishers and users.

Advertisers got nasty way before adblockers came to be. The flashing gif adverts are what started all this. Webmasters can make a nice amount of money using their own advertising software such as the free phpAdsnew or iJuggler and selecting advertisers themselves. It is the malicious ad companies looking for profit profit profit rather than the users fault for all this. The ad companies were still making money from banner ads but they felt it wasnt enough. For these companies breaking even is not even a thought. money money money profit profit profit is all they think about. My advice to tip.it and all webmasters n general, run your own ads using chosen affiliate schemes and commission partners. Mix that in with targeted google ads and no popups and you will see your ad income spiral upwards as the users dont feel so intruded and feel more inclined to click on things that interest them.

This is an interesting subject, there was once I time where I went a little crazy and HOST blocks pretty much every ad server under the sun. I have now since laxed slightly and unblocked many of the more legit advertising companies. The problem lies in the way ad companies are now conducting their business. Gone are the day of the simple banner ad. Being replaced by seisure enducing flashing green and red flash adverts with sound. Bombarding users with popup adverts and forcably installing spyware. Any company that knowingly serves spyware should be shut down. It should be illegal and i perminantly block any ad company that deal in this grey trade, this unfortunatly includes tip.it. People that run websites need money and adverts are one of the main ways to make some of the money back after paying hosting bills etc. I use advertisements on my own sites. However I am very careful what advertising companies i choose to deal with, I research every company to make sure theres no cases of malpractice and eventually i settled with Google as my main ad partner. Look as how unintrusive google ads are compared to most other ad companies The google advert also shows targeted adverts relevant to the content on the page. The google ad shows is taken from an article about bicycles. Targeted adverts are great because the people are more likely to click on and purchase the product shown, therefor more potential revenue for the person whos site it is. The flashing banner adverts are a complete turn off and they are the things that force people to turn to ad blocking. Here is an example of what happens when i got on tip.it using Internet Explorer (at work) each of the three adverts shown on the front page are flashing and intrusive. And not to the fault of tipit but the ad company they have chose also serves spyware, some of it pretty nasty stuff too. It has let me to block all burstnet and advertising.com adverts which means i see no adverts on the tipit forums or the tipit site. I know tipit needs they money but im not risking the integrity of my computer security to earn tipit a few more pennies. I have never bought anything displayed on a regular banner advert or popup EVER anyway so you have to ask yourself are they worth it? I have however bought stuff from google ads and targeted affiliate banner advertisements. Maybe thats the direction that tipit should follow. By running your own adverts choosing what partners wou want to deal with you eliminate the possibility fo spyware and intrusive ads and you have full control over what people see. I stongly thing that if tipit shows ads for computer games sites, music sites and computer upgrade parts they'd have far more money than the pennies they get from the unfortunate few that have the spyware installed. mm ive ranted for too long lol. but thats my 2c

ROFL, i removed this EXACT same virus from my friends computer last night. had me completely stumped. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall a program called iSecurityGuard or something like that. Its not a real BSOD and is actually just a forced wallpaper at C:\WP.bmp post a hijackthis log please and ill tell you what to remove. so you can then delete the files which are causing this. the background is forced via the registry entries in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System you can safely remove this registra folder. But if you are not comfortable with modifying the registry yourself either get a friend to do it or try the following. Open notepad and paste this REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System] "NoDispAppearancePage"=- "Wallpaper"=- "WallpaperStyle"=- "NoDispBackgroundPage"=- [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoActiveDesktopChanges"=- [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] "Wallpaper"=- "WallpaperStyle"=- [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Colors] "Background"="0 78 152" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run] "notepad[Caution: ExecutableFile]"=- "notepad2[Caution: ExecutableFile]"=- "winlogon[Caution: ExecutableFile]"=- save as smitfraud.reg then right click on this new file and merge with the registry. this will bring back ie and desktop control.

Im not voting Liberal purely because i promised i would. I'm voting Liberal because unless i do the tories win and that will be a disaster for so many people. Conservative voters have this mind set that "im alright jack" and dont think about how other people will be affected. With a Conservatives the middle classes and richer people are well off but at the expense of people struggling to live such as lower and working class families and young couples. You have to think about how the entire country will benefit from the government policies and both Labour and Liberals are the only ones to have addressed this. The Conservatives will be a disaster for so many many people in this country.
