I'll just use Starship Troopers as a baseline :P Keep in mind that the book and the movie are completely different. My politics are based on the book, not the movie. The only thing I haven't incorporated is the public flogging (or flogging in particular).
  2. Security Council: -China -United Federation -Slavic Republic -Brazil -Japan -Germany * An extra permanent seat was added.
  3. Current Security Council member list: -The United Federation -The Slavic Republic -Germany -Japan -Brazil In other news.... Senator Stevenson gave a speech about the beauty of a limited Democratic Republic in which the right to vote is only given to those who contribute to society. "There would be no more 'mob rule' in which people can vote for just anything they want. I'm a firm believer that those who actively contribute to society should only have the right to vote because they will have a better concept of what is right for this country."

If we're based on the current Hegemony, I would like to be the United Federation. Right now, I would say that we're semi-authoritarian as far as the politics go.
  5. The United Nations has approved the creation of the Global Defence Network. It is the ONLY approved space-based weapons system, and it will be used to defend the planet.
  6. People are being [developmentally delayed]ed. China gets benefit from the UN, and it resigns for no reason. I guess sanctions against China would probably hurt it. Oh well. Anyway, Dusty, Grim, and I need to vote. Should Japan and Brazil get permanent SC seats? The United Federation approves both of them. ---- I also agree with Retech (for once). If China does the orbital weaponry deal, it is setting a dangerous precedent against itself and is also alienating itself from global politics that drastically affect China by resigning. If China does the orbital weaponry deal (which caused a lot of STUPIDITY in the last thread, I might add), anyone could bombard China. Also, China would not win any land war. If the USA and China went to war against each other today, the USA would almost definitely win due to its vastly superior technology and its massive size. China would probably win a defensive war, though.
  7. From how a lot of Australians describe their government, one would think that Australia is kind of.... backwards. At least that's how their government seems.
  8. Space-based weaponry is disallowed by the UN. Oh, and the proposal for the Global Defence Network is still alive in the UN.
  9. I think Brazil and possibly Japan should get permanent SC seats, but Turkey shouldn't.
  10. The price is dropping, and people are taking pure cash now. :D
  11. Anyway, it won't do anymore damage than a skyscraper. Just build it in a secluded area. If it was an actual space elevator, you need to make sure no one tries to fly an airplane into it.
  12. The United Federation offers to help Brazil build its prototype space elevator.
  13. Abkhazia and South Ossetia join the Russian Federation due to their inability to sustain their own economies and being 100% reliable on Russia. Georgia's pissed.
  14. The United Federation (along with NASA and the ESA) have proposed a global defense network that will be used to destroy objects that may be on a collision course with Earth. The proposed defense system would be built near the moon and will take decades to build, assuming we have the proper technology. The defense system will be an exception to the treaty that forbids weaponry in space. All nations will be protected by the Global Defense Network (GDN). The UN is considering this idea.
  15. You're not a member of the UN. And why in the hell do the Swiss have a navy? Lol.
  16. I like this idea. @Dusty --- I wasn't thinking very clearly. Haha. France was annexed by Germany, but they still maintain their seat, although it's called Germany or whatever now. The only problem is that Germany is senselessly going after African territory. I'm kind of afraid to appoint Japan since Japan has been trying to annex random places (such as Yemen *ahem*), so it might not be as stable due to rebellions and the like. Security Council members need to be wealthy, stable nations. States like the Slavic Republic and the United Federation are rather stable since they focus mostly on internal affairs rather than going on an all-out conquering spree. I would be fine with sending 30% of the US military to the UN. I'll also try to contribute a little bit toward the UN having better quality armor and stuff. I'm not putting a whole lot toward it, so other nations will have to pitch in as well. The Federation donates 540,000 soldiers to the UN. However, this number may be decreased since the US government is mulling over the issue of whether or not to cut the army down in order to make it more manageable and more professional. All SC members must donate 30% of their armed forces. I'm also withholding some of our newer technology unless it's impossible for just any nation to steal it from the UN and have technology on par with the United Federation. If this is an agreement, I may provide some older models of the Exoskeleton. This is no guarantee, though.
  17. I also edited my post to include another point.
  18. Didn't the Australian government's web sites get DDoS'd recently, and weren't they spammed with constant faxes of banned pornography?
  19. He has every right to draw and do whatever with those pictures as he pleases. It's just a way for him to protest against religion --- Islam in particular. Sure, not all Muslims are like this, but this kind of stuff really brings about anti-Islamic tension. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_kyNIevsIs Denmark is a state that practices freedom of speech --- an ideal that is bound to step on someone's toes and make them angry. Honestly, if they do not like this, they should leave Denmark. No one should be made to apologize, and Denmark shouldn't have to conform.
  20. It's off. It should be June 2019 right now. It's only off by like 6 months, though. We can use it if necessary.
  21. Here is the current (2009) security council: China United States United Kingdom Russia France -- I see no Germany there. What it is now: China United Federation Slavic Republic Russia Open Seat 10 temporary members: Japan Austria (Italy) Mexico Turkey Uganda Bosnia Brazil Gabon (Equitoreal-Guinea-Gabon) Nigeria Lebanon Germany has France's seat. EDIT : THANK YOU, DUSTY!!! I've been looking for a full name for the Federation instead of just calling it the "Federation". I didn't want to be a total nerd and call it the Terran Federation. The United Federation sounds awesome.
  22. You just said you wanted to abolish the UN! Lol. Also, the SR would take the permanent seat that is now vacant (either US or UK). Both still have their seats. When the US and the UK came together, neither lost their independence. They're still both technically independent nations, although they're both members of the Federation. France is the empty seat. No, if the Federation is ruled as one entity, then it has 1 seat. Besides, the SR is a perfect placement for a security seat. It seems to be the only economically powerful, stable country, that hasn't and has no plans to, go on a massive conquering spree. I agree. Alright. The Federation has one seat. There is still another vacant spot. It will be given to a stable country, not just anyone. Grim---- The UN required the USA, the UK, and the other members of the Federation to relinquish their seats in order to place a single Federation seat in the UN since others thought it was unfair with them keeping their previous seats. The Federation is a member of the security council. You are no exception since that would be unfair. Current members of the security council: -The Federation -The Slavic Republic -Germany (+ France, annexed) -China -Russia EDIT: I lied. There isn't a vacant spot left.
  23. Anyway, the UN agrees and elects the Slavic Republic as the fifth permanent seat.
  24. He's talking about the real world. Russia = Russian Empire/Soviet Union France = French Empire in Europe (Napoleon) and the French imperialism in the Americas and Africa USA = Driving out the natives and relocating them / trying to wipe their entire race and culture out of existence Britain = British Empire. 25% of land on Earth. Enough said.
  25. Well, the abolition of war idea was a separate proposal. The 10% contribution is just a way to give the UN necessary power (and not create the New World Order in the process) to help bring peace to every nation.
