  1. I suicided on Sarchi and reincarnated. She has no combat skills though. Nanothnir's still alive. Gonna log on and say goodbye to my beloved murder alt. ^_^ ElGato was piloting Nanothnir while I was asleep, but he wasn't on for the fight. :( EDIT: He's logged on Nano and says he might pilot him in order to go fight some people.
  2. Goddammit. I missed the final battle between Sodom and AD. :(
  3. Mother[bleep]ing socialist.
  4. To be honest, it's probably better to find an iron mine FIRST before they're taken up, then worry about the village. I'm not kidding, you need those brickwalls. Palisade might cut it for a month MAYBE, but they're still pretty useless. If you build a palisade and then exhaust the initial enthusiasm you get when making a village (mistake we made in WE), then you run the risk of never getting a brick wall. In the beginning, it's all about finding mines. Feed a guy perc food and get him to raise his exploration. Clearcut forest. Make buckets, etc. Spend LP on exploration. Also keep in mind that there's a 24 hour cooldown after making a village idol before you can actually activate it. There's a 12 hour cooldown after making a brickwall cornerpost before you can extend the wall. Not sure about palisade. It's best to make a palisade SMALL just to protect the idol and any resources you find. Don't make it comfortable or else you'll be tempted to not build that brickwall. Once brickwall is up, build a ram and tear down the palisade. Might take a few rams.
  5. Living near bodies of water will also attract raiders.
  6. Landmine! What about water balloon grenades?
  7. Specialization's only good when you have crafters. Don't even focus on that kind of stuff til you guys are well established and have metals and such. Everyone should have a farmer. Also, when you guys get to the point of silk production, make merchant robes for everyone. Everyone should get metal tools and merchant robes. Those should be free.
  8. Here is Constantinople, trading centre of the world, in all its glory:
  9. Goodbye, cruel world.
  10. Hey guys. I'm about to kill my main. Who all has Rage skill? I might share LP :P He'll get you about 200k LP maybe. EDIT: Nevermind. I have to do it at Sodom because some fighters died and need the LP. Also:
  11. Complete communism wouldn't work. People will just get annoyed and ragequit. In Sodom's case, we had communism, yes, but we also had personal property. Our town smith/jeweler would make jewelry and call us over to the smithy area that was by the idol. Top fighters of course had a priority when receiving Thane's Rings. Crafters received thimbles. You could make a request and the jeweler would make the items for you, although he would ask you to go mine gold or silver if we were low on silver/gold stocks. We would do mining parties where people were obligated to help out. People with full industry alts would mine ore, and other people would equip traveler's sacks and pick up the ores and put them into the cupboards in the mine. When we filled all cupboards, the ores were taken to the surface (but with recent updates, smelters can be in mines) and smelt the ores. The resulting bars (or in the case of precious metals, nuggets) would be stored in specific cupboards in Sodom's main mine (the mine entrance was located in the smithy/industry area). Precious metals were then taken by the LS and stored in strongboxes. :) Listen to this man. I'll draw up the perfect village arrangement for you guys if you wish.
  12. If you guys use key alts, at the very least share one account for this purpose and make a strict rule that the gatekeeper neither walks outside the village nor does the key ever leave the gatekeeper's inventory.
  13. Yeah, that's true. If you are a hermit, you really have no chance. The game is a co-op game. It's a common misconception, however, that newer villages have no chance to catch up. This is simply not true. Take for example the villages of Lost Caverns and AD. AD didn't gain its power until after summer, and then it became almost as powerful as the top clan/village: Sodom. Lost Caverns started off as nothing more than a mere cabin near a river and eventually grew into a pretty cool village. As for the fear of getting raided, that's always there. Some people like the challenge and some people don't. I understand both people's reasonings. Some like the adrenaline rush of warfare and others hate the constant paranoia (I'm a mixture of both). I was also let into Sodom shortly after World's End died, so I never really had to fear the threat of being raided. There was always AD wanting warfare with Sodom, but I don't think they would have ever been able to break through our walls. They might have been on equal terms with us in terms of manpower, but Sodom was pretty much impregnable. I would only have to fear them outside our walls. As for the problem we had with people wanting their own place and the issue with keys... To be honest it's not an awful system to have multiple settlements spread across a supergrid as long as you're able to have the manpower in order to make statues/banners to connect all settlements to the main village. A focal point is pretty much required for proper character development. I think it's just easier to build a city in one spot so you don't have to make more statues/banners than you have to. With the current game mechanics, keys are pretty foolish to use. If you die with a key in your inventory, you're screwed. That's why it's better to use the crossroad system. It's easier to control and less likely to get you raided.
  14. It's not that they reset the game because they want to. They have to reset it when introducing new mapgen or a new leveling mechanic - stuff that drastically changes the game. In the case of the mapgen, they have to reset the maps at least in order to test out the new mapgen. When switching from World 1 to World 2, there was no reset of characters, just the map (thus deleting homes and such in the process). In order to properly test a new mechanic that affects the leveling system, they have to reset characters. In this case, they are resetting both not because they're going to implement the new mechanics but because a glitch allowed a lot of top-tier items to be duped into the game. Loftar (one of the devs) made the mistake of not having a rollback point, so they declared the situation to be beyond repair after fixing the glitch (but the items were still in the game). I don't agree with the rollback, but it is what it is. I'd rather play the same map even if there is no challenge in creating top tier armour because the situation would even out in a month or so once the pearl necklaces, steel plates, gauntlets, and dev capes made their way around the game economy. Of course it may ruin the fun of a challenge for a little while, but it was still tolerable. The Devs are still working on a new mapgen and LP system (which won't be ready by this reset), but some high-ranking members such as mods are trying to persuade the devs to implement a new base terrain (for example, most of the world is grassland rather than forest) or some things that were being tested on a test server a few months ago (stone walls, new LP system, etc) in order to mix things up and allow players to feel like they can have fun and mess around with new mechanics rather than feeling like they have to grind back up. Anyway the game is still in progress and isn't the "finished product". Doesn't mean you can't have fun on it. Just play it but don't take it too seriously. It's more of a social type thing anyway.
  15. I'm gonna [bleep]ing miss Sodom. :(
  16. It does. You gotta inherit your stats back from your ancestor by reading the runestones at respawn room... It has an inherit button. Wurm's graphics are a thousand times worse, by the way. In my opinion, a game doesn't have to have 3D graphics to be good. The graphics in Haven suit its purpose quite well, although I think the UI looks like crap.
  17. Let's all go visit Falador! ^^ LP rate should be higher IMO since it's a permadeath game, but the game is also in alpha phase testing, so there will be more resets in the future. You just learn to deal with them. The fact the game is permadeath makes it less painful to think about a reset since you could die at any time anyway, for whatever reason. The Heathlands are a ruthless jungle where anything goes. Imagine how I feel, though. I'm gonna lose two high-statted characters in a day or two. Maybe I get to kill a few people, who knows. It isn't a fun thought. The fact that we lose Sodom in the new world is an even bigger pain because it took so much work and so many months of dedication.
  18. Try not to specialize too much because you'll be screwed if your farmers or cattle raisers quit. You can have one person that does the tanning and making best quality leather gear or silk, but that shouldn't be the only thing he does. You should be versatile for people to replace each other in jobs. Everyone should have a farmer, IMO. Try to get 100+ farming and then 200-300+ farming if you wanna be a decent farmer. You should also get people to train combat stats, and you should all use your silk and stuff in order to make feasting tables via the Symbel skill. This is useful for raising attributes, which are as important as combat stats. Also, everyone should try to raise cows. Just increase the quality of the cows (focus on milk and breeding quality). Q10 cows are [cabbage]. Use fir cones for tree farms. Try not to clearcut too fast where your trees are planted on grass (because grass spawns when you clearcut a forest). Although you'll be fine if you do, but it'll just take twice as long to grow (but will eventually revert back to forest tile). Stone mansions and brickwall only! Palisades are too easy too break by hand. Finding wheat seeds from WWWs will be one of your first challenges after finding an iron mine! Explore everywhere and collect WWWs because the seeds you get from them depend on the area in which you found the weeds. Hang on drying racks since you won't have plant fibers to make herb tables for a little while. Build statues to cover your entire village so people can't use glitches in order to jump over your walls without a ram. Brick is impossible to break without rams. If one part of the wall falls, it does a cascade effect where a maximum of 50 tiles can be broken in all directions. Try to maintain a good relationship with your neighbours if possible. Don't trust A.D. and be weary of all Russians. A.D. (Absolute Domination) is a hardcore Russian clan that is notorious for killing people for no reason in the game. They are warmongers and take over things. They have an extreme hatred for non-Russians. If you have any questions, you can always contact me either on TIF or on HnH forums (forum nick: Sarchi).
  19. Finding spots will be a challenge, yes. My advice is to find an iron mine that's on a mudflat and far enough from a river. Mudflats don't require that you plow before paving, so it's easier to get the foundation down that way. Also, find clay spots for making bricks. Use the bricks to make smelters inside the iron mine (You can build inside mines and caves now, but more freedom building inside mines) and use stone axes to get ore and smelt. Make pickaxes with the bars and make more cast iron. Then build forges and turn cast iron into wrought (you'll need full industry characters for this). Use the wrought iron to make brickwalls. You'll also need to build steel crucibles to make steel for a village gate (which is sort of needed at first until you can get some wild windsown weeds and hang on drying racks and get grape seeds for making village wine). At that point you should keep gates closed at all times and make a crossroad outside the walls as well as a crossroad system inside the walls, by the container containing buckets of wine and wineglasses. Use this to reduce travel weariness so you can teleport outside the village. A village idol is one of the most important things you should get up. Build it in a central part of the village, with the iron mine and industry area being close to the idol. It will make a good social focal point and generally help with the character development of your villagers. Make everyone work with the brickwall. No exceptions. Also, make personal plots for each villager to live in. Make them square and at least 30x30 tiles. 40x40 is more recommended (Sodom in World 3 used 35x35). EDIT: You'll need to raise perception and exploration first off so you can find rustroots.
  20. Confirmed. There is a reset. 36-48 hours. Murder everywhere. Me and some mates are going to go [bleep] some people up later, I guess. Anyway, here's my stats: http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8708&p=157822#p157822 I'm joining the new Sodom, though. If you guys are serious about making a town, I can help give advice, although I'll be busy working on my new town. Will probably give out my hearth secret after a few days or a week after world reset. R.I.P Sodom. She could hold ~100 active players and had about 40 really active mains at the time of the reset. Of these, over half were warriors with high stats. We were also the best PvPers because our general was the game's top fighter. We knew how to use those stats and were required to undergo a lot of combat training. I'm glad that I became a respectable unarmed combat fighter. ^_^ I was given permission to recruit some people, even from other forums. However, I'm very strict about who I invite. I won't invite traitors, lazy asses, or [kitties]. Sounds harsh, but we have to be very careful about who we invite. I thought about starting a recruitment drive for our clan. We'll see, though.
  21. Ok. World is being reset. I'm logging on right now. I'm gonna kill all Russians and AD.
  22. There may be a reset on Haven and Hearth. All major factions discovered (after there was a server crash) that they could dupe armour and jewelry (among other things) and they duped hundreds, if not thousands, of items. The devs are really pissed and are talking about maybe resetting the world. I'm not sure if I'm quitting after this or not.
  23. They bashed the birds that were injured but still alive to death in order to make the story more interesting.
  24. Interesting. Didn't know that. :)
  25. That's what the National Wildlife Health Center thinks http://io9.com/5727758/national-wildlife-health-center-determines-cause-of-blackbird-death Except it has also happened in places like Sweden... There have also been mass bird deaths in Italy, as well as thousands of fish dying across the world in a similar fashion to that of the birds. I don't think it's a coincidence, and the firecracker hypothesis doesn't seem likely. Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-12135380
