What's the *deal* with Cannonballs

Featured Replies

Okay so just about every guide suggests smithing cannonballs as a means of moneymaking. However, I never see people in the forums trying to buy them. I ended up burned trying to sell iron knives at a profit, so before I try my luck at cannonballs, I figured I ask. Are cannonballs as good moneymaker?

i personally don't like them because they take a long time (in my mind) to make, and theres such a low market for them that i see, i'd rather spend my time on something theres a high market for.

It's good money for a lower lvl. But I think even low lvls don't it, it's like the ultimate boredom. More boring than rc in my opinion, lol, and that's not nothing. :o

As you said, many moneymaking guides include making cannonballs to sell for money. Well figure it out, many people read those guides, so guess what they are going to do. That's right, make cannonballs! Guess what that means. It means that there aren't a lot of buyers for cannonballs, but there are many sellers.

In conclusion, you shouldn't do it. More sellers than buyers is a bad thing. It creates very competitive prices.

Thanks, I suspected as much. I've been trying my hand at merchanting and right now it seems low profit "safe bets" such as ess, flax, or gold ore are a better bet.

I've heard people say that selling cannonballs is hard, but I don't really understand why. In theory it is, a lot of sellers but few buyers, but whenever I've sold cannonballs it took less than 5 minutes to find a buyer. Just post on the official forums, and sell for 5 gp each under what everyone else is.

The experience is veeeeeeeery slow and the profit is about the same. I've always avoided for those reasons.

Cannonballs are 12.5K XP and about 100K gp profit per hour.

I like it because I click "smelt all" and go read forums.

The XP is slower than, say, smithing iron knives from iron bars, but there is a lot of profit there.
