In the streets you walk past you may see icons on some buildings. Like there's a build with sword icon on it, it is a sword shop and it only buys/sells specific types of swords available as stock in the shop and doesn't buy anything else. That is a specialty shop. Specific items you sell there go for higher than general stores and is of same value as the high alch price.

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

Specialty shops is the generalzed description for stores that trade in a fixed set of items, at better prices (both ways) than general stores. They will only buy the items that appear in the store, in stock or zero stock.

They often do not even deal in the full range of items.

Examples of Specialty Shops (if you haven't figured it out) would be like the following.

1) Armory Northwest of Varrock Fountain

2) Arrow Shop west of Varrock East Bank

3) Sword Shop along Southern Varrock Path

4) The Shop owners of the various stalls in Ardougne

5) The Magic Shops, located in the Magic Guild, below Varrock East Bank, ect

The list goes on and on, but those are some of the more common ones that I can think of right off the top of my head.

When looking at high alch values, some sites refer to this as "Speciality Shop" values. This doesn't, however, mean that there is a shop in RS which actually buys/sells these items.

E.g. You could high alch a whip, and get the "Speciality Shop" value of 60,000gp, or you could low alch one (if you are completely out of your mind) and get what you would at a general store if you sold it and they had none in stock (I've never seen a general store with whips in stock).

Don't follow me. You might not make it.

If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator

Speciality shops in RS is shops who sell just one sort of items, for example helmets. There is one speciality shop in Barbarian village, which sells ONLY helmets. That's why it's called a speciality shop. Logical, isn't it?
