March 24, 200719 yr Unlike Hitler - after Stalins death (like 20-30 years later or so) 1/6 people still thought he was the best ruler they ever had. And that was near 30 million people still supporting Stalin 30 years after his death. That was never going to happen for Hitler.
March 24, 200719 yr I'd say Stalin was the lesser of two evils, although he was still an [wagon]. He industrialised Russia (through pretty sadistic means) which inevitably made them a far better war machine than they would have been, thereby helping us win WW2.

March 24, 200719 yr Does it really matter who was "worse"? They were both inhuman, and oppressive dictators who were responsible for millions of deaths yet conversely did a lot of good for their country and showed aspects of a loving and caring nature towards some (Hitler). Debating over who was worse is pointless, you can't measure someone's evilness in such retrospect terms. Hitler actually believed that he was doing the right thing in trying to exterminate all the Jews. Stalin actually believed that the people he purged were a threat to his idea of communism. They were safeguarding an ideal that they thought was for the greater good of mankind. The fact that it wasn't maybe didn't occur to them. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
March 24, 200719 yr Stalin was actually correct in having a fair few of political and military figures perged. They weren't just a threat to his idea of commumism - they were a threat to the rest of the Soviet Union in some form. There were a lot of people on the "list of successors" that would've seen the Soviet Union plummet back into the sorry state it was when Stalin came to power; he essentially secured people who would keep the country moving forwards as a super-power rather than let it crumble. Still didn't totally work though; many of his trusted staff ended up being arrested for stuff like treason shortly after his death.
March 24, 200719 yr Author Debating over who was worse is pointless, you can't measure someone's evilness in such retrospect terms. Pointless? You could say that about anything if you really wanted to.
March 24, 200719 yr Debating over who was worse is pointless, you can't measure someone's evilness in such retrospect terms. Pointless? You could say that about anything if you really wanted to. I could, but it's such a subjective opinion that it's very hard to guage. Okay, I didn't mean pointless, but you'll never get a definite answer. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
March 24, 200719 yr I would say Hitler, he had brains, and he was meaner :uhh: RIP Michaelangelopolousu can control my tip it account, but youll never control how fine i am!This is by FAR my favorite song: I love N_odie and would never edit his posts! March 24, 200719 yr To Germany Hitler was the worst. To Russia Stalin was the worst. Personally, i think Hitler, he used terror among other things to control his country. He killed only because he could, at least Stalin did something for Russia , Hitler just killed anyone who opposed him mearly because he could. They are both evil men and we should hope that what they did never happens again.
March 24, 200719 yr Debating over who was worse is pointless, you can't measure someone's evilness in such retrospect terms. Pointless? You could say that about anything if you really wanted to. Well, what does it matter who is worse? Nothing. That makes this pointless. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!

If we don't discuss history how are we ever going to learn from it? I made this topic for discussion purposes if you have a problem with that why are you posting on here? at least Stalin did something for Russia Well if by killing millions of his own people and losing 20 million Russian lives in the war is doing something for Russia...But I suppose aslong as he won the war none of that matters.
March 24, 200719 yr To Germany Hitler was the worst. To Russia Stalin was the worst. Russia adored Stalin, they despised Hitler. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
March 24, 200719 yr If Stalin wouldn't have done all that, the "Space Race" and Cold War wouldn't have happened. We probably wouldn't be building the ISS, have a probe in Saturn's orbit. We might've nuked our planet, or we might not have any nukes... Really? Are we talking about the same Stalin who died in 1953, and the same "Space Race" that started around 1957? And how do you suppose we wouldn't have nukes, which were dropped on Japan in 1945? Surely that isn't the result of the "Space Race." without stalin there would have been no ussr. Say what you mean and mean what you say because those that matter don't mind, and those that mind don't matter.
