Celluzion
Hobbit, stop spreading lies. Bodybuilding will not stunt your growth unless you have improper form. Take a quick tour around the Teen Bodybuilding forum, there's 14-15 year old kids who've been working out for 2+ years, and they're mostly 5'10" and above, weighing about 180+ lbs. There's even a 13 year old kid who's like 5'3" and is pretty ripped. Bodybuilding isn't for posers, you bleedy imbecile. Bodybuilding is about the image. In a bodybuilding competition you don't see them lifting any weights do you, it's about how you look to the judges. You want to lift heavy, do powerlifting. Btw, again, if you want strength, do high weight, low reps. That's why Rippetoes and 5x5 only makes you do 5 reps per set, but increase the weight it every workout. Doing low weight, high reps, at most gives you muscular endurance. Known formerly as Ameoba3000. Now known as Vigoss.
T-Roach
to all the people who r talking about not growing, shame on u bodybuilding is diffrent thing as powerlifting yes there are some cases in which ur growth stops because of heavy weights in moves such as squat/deadlift if he starts carefully with pullups/pushups/dumbbell curls with the right technique, he will not stop growing. besides, how would u know if you had grown more if u hadnt started heavy weightlifting? sure genes have something to do it with but sometimes, its already decided for u Doctor of Dental Surgery-2014Medical Doctor-2018?Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon-2024? T-Roach
Pushing your muscles to the brink of exhaustion so you cant lift em, then doing it all over again the next day :D Doing it every day can be dangerous... not necessarily dangerous but stupid as hell. Tigra00
There are lots of theories about body building stunting your growth...I personally wouldn't risk it and just start when you're grown enough anyways...'Round 16 or something. You're going to feel aweful stupid if it turns out to be true for you and you're 5'2" with huge muscles. Huge muscles don't really look too great to your girlfriend when she is taller than you. I'd normally dismiss it as BS, but I do know a guy that started body building when we were in like 7th grade and he never got over 5'4". He looks pretty ridiculous today...Large muscles...Tiny body...Looks kinda like a buff midget. :P The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me! assassin_696
Oh yeah, a question i've been meaning to ask. Is going for a swim (10-20 lengths breastroke) after a workout a sensible idea? I want to keep up my swimming and it's more convenient to do it after a workout, but I don't want to negate all the work I put in in the gym by not resting them directly after or whatever. rodl
My real life friend started bodybuilding when he was about 12, he has huge muscles but he is very small. He still hopes he will grow. Conclusion based on a fact: Bodybuilding at young ages *does* stop you from growing in height.

Nadril
And again, you some how claimed that bodybuilding will stunt your growth because you know 1 short kid who body builded at a young age. Even if you didn't say it obviously you must mean it will effect mostly everyone who bodybuilds, aka, 'countless' people. So again, why do you not need a lot of examples to 'prove your point' but he does?

Why, then, I ask you do you somehow think that to weigh against your 1 example he must have at least 10. You are chalanging his comment and you are indeed against it and belive the opposite of what he is sayng. So you belive that 'countless bodybuilders are (short)' correct? If by any chance you do not actualy belive that then why bother to ask for proof?
