RS advertising: Skills?!

Featured Replies

So, updates. People we have updates. When do we have updates. Every single week! woohoo! Go Jagex!

We like our updates every week, but how good are these updates. Or what is the point behind all the updates? Things to think off :-s

1 thing just 'slipped' my mind.

Agility:

-2 new courses and A LOT of attention.

Result: More people training agility (or so it seems, I do not know the facts)

Construction:

-New long bones and curved bones. Also perfect snail thingies

Result: A new way to train construction.

Now if we take a look at these updates, a lot of people are sceptical about them. They aren't really GREAT ways to train the skill. But still, the result: people start discussion the skill and people tend to train it more.

The skill was brought to their attention, thus making them skill!

So just a mad, crazy, random thought:

Is Jagex trying to draw attention to certain skills? (With small updates?)

Well of course they are :? Why wouldn't they? It's how they get more members. Advertise the skills that those f2pers don't have, consistently attempt to make them better, hence more appealing.

"Well if a new skill isn't good enough already, we are enlarging the availability in ways to train it!" :P

I don't know about you, but the more skills is why I decided to become a member. Makes sence to spiff up the things that reel the money in :)

I very good point, I like to hear these things.

But your sentence:

"Well if a new skill isn't good enough already, we are enlarging the availability in ways to train it!" :P

This is what I was wondering about. Do they add new things to improve the skill or could it be that some new updates main goal is to just get people to talk about the skill? A main advertising goal?

Like lumberjack outfit for woodcutting? (I mean, it isnt THAT great.. but it sure made woodcutting a hot-topic)

I think a lot of the time it is both. I don't really feel like going into exact examples, but yeah, I think a lot of the time the updates are to improve the efficiency (sp?) of training that skill, while at other times it is purely for hyping that particular skill up.

good point - it's a way for them to do things, a simple process that is obviously working

There's no such thing as "wireless." Just really long extension cords.

well... i think the last updates have been quite good^^ ... and there is a quite bigger difference if you look at ape atoll agility training area now and before they started to update that skill with the icy training area.... people tend to do things that is new, or have been put in the spotlight lately

Definitely! Before, they probably saw that agility was under-trained, so they diverted attention to it.

"We will certainly not be gaining money or members with this update. Instead, we are doing this for the good of the game, which is as dear to our hearts as it is to you."

Sure beats the pants off of just adding more skills that no one likes

I think it is all a plot anyways. They added a new skill back last month and still haven't told people about it! Instead... they try and sway everyone to do those old rottem skills instead of the new one.. which they havent even told anyone about yet! For those of you who are killing cows, I salute you! Your Cow Killing levels will be significantly higher than everyone elses... once they add it to the highscores!

My nurse wants me to go back to bed now. Zzzzzzzz
