Longsword or Skimmy?

Featured Replies

So I just made it to 40 atk. and I can now get the oh so wonderful rune.

But i'm not sure what to get. I've always used longswords in the past(long time ago) but I see and hear about SOOO many people useing skimmys.

So whats better to use? Rune Longsword or Rune Skimmy?

Not that it should matter too much but i'm a member, and I intend to be a warrior type guy. I HATE range and the only thing i'm using magic for after 43(i think) is superheat and highalch.

I myself like the longsword, but that's my opinon. longsword will hit a little higher but is a little slower. Just try both and see which you like most

P.S. magic teleports are also good

The speed difference between the two is almost non-existant isn't it? No big difference in speed till you switch over to two hander something else isn't it?

I've been leaning towards a Longsword anways. Now i've just got to find one. How much are they nowadays. If anyone else has any opinions comments or ideas please post them as well.

Members seem to just high alch them (long sword that is) as soon as they get them, because they only sell for 20k and alch for 19k+. I suggest logging into free world to pick one up quicker.

there IS a notable speed diff

i was facing someone with a dlong in duel arena with a dscimmy. we both attacked each other at the same time, and within a few strikes i had already gotten in one more blow than he had. The power diff completely unnoticably different

One of the things that Jagex changed from RSC to RS(2) was the desirability of weapons.

In RSC everyone used the 2 hander. Jagex wasn't happy with that.

(you can read about it in the behind the scenes news)

So for RS(2) they changed the weapons to have a speed vs damage tradeoff.

So, for the commonly available weapons you have, in general:

Fast weapons have low damage

Med speed weapions have med damage

Slow weapons have high damage.

The scimmy is faster than the long but doesn't do as much damage per hit.

Most players seem to prefer the faster scimmy and then use a strength

amulet and strength potions (available to all players) to boost the damage output.

Also, you have to look at the defenses of the monster that you are fighting

and how your weapon takes advantage of any weakness in it.

The scimmy and long both have good slash ability.

So they would be effective against cloth or skin defenses.

The scimmy is poor with stab but the long is good with stab.

Chain mail is weak against a stab attack.

So the long would be a much better weapon against a chain mail

wearing enemy (guards) than the scimmy would.

Ice giants are weak against crush attacks. So, a 2 hander or baxe might be effective against those guys.

Finally, you can consider other factors like: poison, shield or not, dueling, PKing, etc.

Bottom line is that different weapons are better in different situations

and you really should know what is important in every encounter.

But overall, the scimmy with an amulet and pots is a good training choice.

Hope this helps

wow Goodbore. I'm impressed by your sheer knowlege and ability to covey it clearly.

I have heard most of those things over the years but never all at once.

So I guess a skimmy is the way to go for now. Since I will be training for a long while. I'll get a long as soon as I can afford one. At the moment I can only afford to buy 1 weapon.

Thanks for all the advice and feedback people.

actually get rune battle axe

because its the strongest 1 handed weapon in the non members game

but it's much slower than long

I say skimmy. Faster, hits more often, and is overall just a better weapon. IMHO.

I'm gonna get both i guess. gonna start with a skimmy though since i wanna train and lvl up.

Overall, scimmy is slightly better then long. Although some people enjoy the slightly higher hits from a longsword, the scimmy's speed more then makes up for it. That's why every mid to high level pure without a whip uses the d scimmy instead of long.

got that mr. post starter?

scimmys for sure, ask any decent lvl player in game and they will always tell u scimmys are better-unless they're purposely lying to u

rune scimy hits way more often than rune long, and also long only hits like, 1 hit higher at the most?..

once again, scimmy for sure

Scimmy ftw? If you want, you can walk into wildy with no armour on and see how many f2p melee pkers use rune scimmys (with rune 2h too) and how many use rune longs.

josh181830.png

lol y do u h8 range? tis it is the most powerful in all the land

I would recommend a long though. Because I love to train on guards and their stab attack hits more. BTW for future reference:

at 50 atk and 50 str get g maul

at 60 atk get ddp++

this will help

scimi is weapon of choice.

DEFINATELY a scimitar, without doubt. The tiny differences in the stats don't matter when you consider the speed difference, which is very noticable.
