Just wandering what the community thinks makes a good game..

I beleive that the most important thing in a video game is gameplay. I hate to play the same shoot-em-ups with the same ideas over and over again. I also beleive that graphics play an important part in the gaming business, Afterall you wouldnt want to pay ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã40 for a new xbox 360 game with the graphics of runescape.(no offence to runescape ^^) Sure, everyone is looking out for games with good graphics(to play on there new 00berwtfpwn HD-TV 8-) ) But with a crap gameplay/storyline no-one will buy it..

Everything.

Plain and simple, a good game is the complete package. Not just "good gameplay" or "good graphics" or sound or whatever but the entire thing. A great game can throw together amazing gameplay, graphics, sound, controls and an engaging stoyline together and then put an extra layer of polish on it to ensure it is nearly bug free.

This of course is on the generic level. If its a more in-depth question than it completly goes down to personal taste.

any gamer who buys games because they have good graphics is what i would never call a true gamer. Games are for fun and entertainment. So whther it is blowing some guy's head off, or just solving puzzles. I'm Ok with it. If the game looks good, but has useless graphics, I'll buy it anyway. Unless a newer version comes out with better graphics.

Sure, graphics make a game better. But without gameplay, graphics is nothing.

The gameplay is the most important aspect of a video game. good gameplay= good game.

I also want re-playability in my good games. If i'm shelling out 40-70 bucks for a game, I want it to last past the weekend I play it. Really good multiplayer is good for that (GoW, Halo 2), or being able to play the game from a whole new perspective (KotOR for example).

Gameplay is most important but graphics are the frosting on the cake. Without good graphics, a good game is just good. With good graphics, a good game can be made into a great game. Something else the game should have is an awesome multiplayer so I don't get tired of putting the game in and playing for hours. After I've done story mode a few times, I get tired of it. I never get tired of multiplayer on games that do it right.

Something that is diffrent from everything else, and something you CAN'T get bored of.

*cough* gh...

I think these are all steps to a great game:

*Amazing Graphics

*Awesome Gameplay

*Great Online Features

*Something new

Where you have to use strategy, reaction, intelligence to win.

A game which relies on intelligence, however has some good action bits would be nice ::'

For me, it depends on the type of game.

For an FPS for example, I think great multiplayer options, well designed maps and heavy anticheat software.

For RTS, lots of variety and an enormous tech tree make for a perfect experience :)

A good game has to have excellent gameplay and any quality graphics. Or it can have good gameplay with very good graphics. Without good gameplay, a game cannot be good. A great game requires excellent gameplay and excellent graphics. Oh, and the sound has to be good.

I like games where you can throw things around like that alien game where you can move things around your gun, also I like when you can destroy things around you.

I can pretty much like anygame. The only problems I have are crappy controls, and crappy storylines.

Great game needs:

-Great Plot (Doesn't have to epic, but at least be interesting)

-Great gameplay (which means it is fun, has good controls and camera, is fresh and intuitive, and has a variety of things to do)

-Nice graphics (I don't care what people say, GRAPHICS MATTER. It's much easier to enjoy a game when it's amazing to look at. Though I don't believe it's the most important aspect of a game like most mainstream gamers do, I consider important nonetheless.

That sums a very very deep topic with three points.

...And oh yes, having chocobos in a game doesn't hurt it either. <3:

If good graphics are a requirement for a game to be great then please explain the success of pokemon.

Good graphics are not required for a game to be great.

Noone is saying pokemon isnt a great game for its 8bit graphics, its just clear that if it so happened to have a kickass charizard model and a cool graphic for pikachus thunderbolt that itd be a step up.

PS: For some reason my apostrophe button is bringing up my ctrl+f function instead (in FF). If anyone knows how I can change it pm me please.

I don't find Pokemon games great. The first 6 for gameboy are good, though.

Gameplay is most important, followed closely by graphics and a storyline. Also, the controls have to be simple enough for beginners, but need some aspects for better gamers to handle. Also, you need easter eggs, per se.

One can easily argue that the game was very pleasing to the eye. It doesn't have to be high tech to look good.

Also, it was a handheld game. Its not expected to be as "high quality" in terms of a graphics engine.

Pokemon looked pretty nice when I first started it. It looked better than the Gameboy Zelda, and Tetris.
