How2PK
Post your favorite opening scenes here. It is prefered with a youtube video, so we can all see it. But it doesn't have to be. If you haven't got it, post a description. but the real reason I posted this, is because I found a youtube video of a very, very special opening scene. I think this is my favorite. I advise you all to take 10 minutes of your free time, and witness this. It's unbelievably beautiful. Note the music as well. Werckmeister HarmoniÃÆÃâÃâák opening scene I hope this makes some people enthousiastic to see the rest of the movie. :) Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore! Harrington
I don't have any links :( However, my favourite opening is Contact. It starts on a suburb somewhere in the States, and the camera moves out into Earth orbit and beyond, passing the moon, the inner then outer planets. As this happens, the broadcasts from Earth (travelling at c) can be heard and the further out we travel, the older the tracks become until finally we pass beyond our own local star cluster into silence yet continuing onwards. Finally, we are treated to leaving our galaxy and local galaxy cluster and finally, a distant universal view which all emerges from Jodie Foster's eye lol. Great stuff, and gives a meaningful scale to our universe.
Bubsa
The intro to Footloose is brilliant. Kenny Loggins, 80s theme montage legend, and dancing feet. Awesome :D This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.

It's kind of plotless. But in general it's about a small town in Hungary, which is kind of restless in the period the movie plays, then a 'circus' consisting of a giant whale and a 'prince', arrive, and a sort of revolution starts. And then what. It's basically what the opening scene describes. And everything is 'observed' trough the eyes of Janos. It's especially the mood that Tarr manages to create that makes this movie so incredibly good. Everything is so slow (33 shots, I believe, don't pin me down on that number) and you really get to see every detail, and of course it's special lighting gives this nightmarish effect. indy500fan
For some reason I am having trouble remembering what the open scene of a lot of movies are  . If I am remembering it right, Emir Kusturica's Underground has a pretty fun opening scene. Also Daan you have mentioned that movie before, right? I recognize the name, I think you mentioned it in a discussion about long camera shots. Had it on my movies to watch list, but I accidentally deleted the list, and can't remember too many of the movies on it.
unkn0wnwarrior
I rather like the opening of Lord of War. IT follows a single bullet from production to the point at which it hits its target. And more importantly, it has an excellent song. I don't have any video for it, though.

I was gonna mention that but I didn't know if it would be considered an opening scene or an opening sequence. anyway, here's the video

Satenza
Touch Of Evil; opening shot lasts for around 4 minutes. Beautiful direction from Orson Welles Click here to watch one of the greatest peices of direction. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.
