runesmithie
Here are some ideas that unfortunately got deleted after I posted... so I'm retyping ... grrr Jagex should implement some of these ideas on July 3rd-4th (maybe American servers only?) 1. A sky view button where you can watch the fireworks go off in the sky (you can't see fireworks if no one in the minimap area is shooting them... or binoculars that give a grainy view for f2p and a clear telescope for p2p? 2. Buying fireworks at stores... you can buy all kinds from sparklers to shells... you can then use them with a tinderbox to ignite and it automatically switches to overhead (for fountains), sky view (for rockets), or just equips them (sparklers) 3. Paying a fee to look through the observatory telescope... 4. Confiscating Guards can confiscate fireworks if they violate city regulations i.e. Varrock: no rockets Ardougne: Nothing at all Falador: No sparklers in castle due to hay, no shells, or rockets 5. New MiniQuest You can go on a miniquest to find the elusive evidence room key and take some fireworks from it... you click the box and you get one firework, and if none are confiscated then none are in evidence room 6. Fireworks They can only be bought on the 3rd and 4th at any store (even Oziach stocks some crazy dragon ones) they are really cheap, around the 1-10 gp range. They disappear from inventory (are confiscated) after teh 4th until next year, they can be banked and not confiscated, although you will be required to pay a fee for them (1k a month). If confiscated (you cant have any at all until the 3rd and 4th) then they goto evidence room, which you cannot open until the 3rd and 4th or a guard will catch you.. and you also get a 100gp fine per firework in inventory that they take... blue107
there are well over 100 countries in rs that peopel represent, yea, lets have 100 days in rs of fire works!! good idea!! 485th person to ever play RuneScapeBlue107- perm banned 10/12/2007. $300 USD reward if you can get me in contact with someone who will take 5 seconds to look at evidence and get my original character unbanned. runesmithie
I said 4th of July, not independence day... Besides there are only a few countries represented by the servers and these ideas could only apply to American servers... I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam. Thehumongus
With July 4th being an American Holiday - one that celebrates U.S. independence from Great Britain - I doubt that Jagex, a British based company, is going to do anything special in the way of celebration.
runesmithie
well, they could look at what a large portion of their fanbase is... or they could think of it as the n00bs leave britain I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam. indy500fan
nah, they already said they werent doing any holiday stuff anymore (maybe they changed that since i last glanced at runescape two months ago, in which case ignore this post) but if they did do holiday stuff it should be one thats celebrated in at least most of the countries of the world, not just one. and doing it on just the american servers doesnt mean anything really, i live in the US and ive always used the britain servers, cause i think they are faster. Creaphis
This is another example of something that would take far more effort than Jagex would be willing to make. If there were still holiday drops, *maybe* Jagex would make the sparkler item. (Not tradable, of course.)
blue107
to only countriesservs apply to? then we will have more aussies, singawhatevers and other countries blabbing about how they want 10 servers for every country that exist but now they will have even more of a reason 485th person to ever play RuneScapeBlue107- perm banned 10/12/2007. $300 USD reward if you can get me in contact with someone who will take 5 seconds to look at evidence and get my original character unbanned. Jon
uhh, no? If you want this, everyone else will want their celebrations, and isn't it abit late to design them and put them in the game?

insane
I've never once seen a Canadian ask for a drop for Canada day, or some other nationality for their day... yet every year (or at least last year) there are multiple Americans asking for drops for them... I at least do not think that there are more Americans than others on these boards... I mean, they can't outnumber us that much can they? I just don't understand why it is only one country always asking...
Warlock
Take a history class and learn that July 4th is celebrating America breaking away from England....Why would they (in ENGLAND) want to celebrate? Darn 12 year olds... What would you rather have anyways...More updates for the WHOLE of the game, or a stupid 1 day event? Yea, thought so.. Theres no reason to make unfounded - and what could be interpreted as a tad insulting - generalizations about those on this board who are Americans. July 4th is a major holiday for a rather large group of posters and players. I don't believe Runesmithie had any malicious intent in his suggestion. He just saw it as something that would be fun.... as I would. However, since RS is played internationally, setting aside special holiday celebrations for specific countries would not be appropriate. It's not quite unfounded - just based on a couple years of seeing the same thing happening again and again ;). I didn't intend to generalise, but now I see how my post might have done that; I understand it is all in good fun, but it isn't unfounded... funny_fell0w
yea i agree.. jagex most probably wont make a celebration for a special day for americans Forever F2P skill total: 1053 My Stats + Bank <!-- m -->http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=516379<!-- m -->
Thehumongus
On a related note, I hope to see in the future of RS, some sort of holiday events for those holidays which are internationally recognized (Christmas. etc.) - but I don't mean item drops - those have ended and I agree with the Jagex decision to do so. Perhaps special mini quests that don't add to you quest point total, or give any reward.... just something different and fun to to for a 24 hour period on the holiday. We can always hope :D
Sab128
Um, JAGeX specifically said that they only wanted to put events in that the whole world celebrates, (Christmas, Halloween, Easter). Otherwise everyday would be a holiday. We'd have: Kid's Day - Japan Oktoberfest - Germany Thanksgiving - USA Bastille Day - France Bonfire Night - UK St. Patricks Day - Ireland And loads more, so, in other words, it would be pretty pointless to have 4th of July because then other countries would want their holidays celebrated aswell. runesmithie
I'm fine with a holiday a day :P (And we celebrate St Patricks Day in the US (And a little bit of Oktoberfest ;) )) I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam. phreaknet
Of course, you could also argue that holidays like Chrstmas and Easter are religious holidays (Christian holidays) and in many countries, the majority of the population is not Christian (Such as Iraq or india). I am an American, but I wouldn't mind at all celebrating St. Patricks day or Bastille day. :D
assassin_696
Nice idea, but it seems a little long-winded for just a one-country holiday event. The sparkler idea is good, though, maybe they require a fire rune to light and give some magic exp?? But why stop at the fourth of July? Why not this kind of thing on Halloween, bonfire day (UK) etc. I live in the UK and would be disappointed if Jagex purely bowed to their dominant market for one celebration. Nice idea generally though. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
Runescapeking
If this happens it should be from July 1-4 because July 1 is Canada Day (the Candian day of independence for those who don't know). They should be sold year round by Diango for the whole year and on special days like thesae all the general stores will have firework.
