Addicted to WoW.

You sound like a future me. To me, I think WoW will be less addicting. It's not hard to "beat" it and get bored of PvP whereas in Runescape there's TONS of grind that takes FOREVER.

When you discover raiding Kara and all those places... The addiction hits you even more... Especially if you join a hardcore raiding guild that raids 24/7.

Hey

You should try to do something totally different than playing games for like one or two days a week. This to break the addiction. Cutting down your game time with half an hour a day doesn't actually have much effect. (although if you can, do it)

One thing that works quite well for me is, to reward yourself with playing time after you completed a certain part of your homework. First make your homework after school and then as a reward play games. This way you can play without the though of school in the back of your mind. An other point is that you should do something else than gaming before you go to bed. Reading a book works pretty well for me. It slows down my brains, if you get what i mean.

Good luck

Do you want to know the secret to not getting addicted. Go to the parental controls on your account management and set up how long a day you think you should play. it does work. I couldn't stop lvling my lock in the outland (stupid reps) so I set it up and problem solved.

You just need another hobby that is all, which is pretty much what everyone here is saying. Setting parental control and things is stupid, you can just undo it. Getting a girlfriend isnt that easy, they don't grow on trees. Hanging out with friends is a good idea, but you can really do that a lot if you have a car (dont know if you do or not). You could just get into some type of physical activity doesn't have to be anything too big. Just start running doing some pushups whatever. Play some basketball if you have a hoop outside. You can redirect your attention to something less addictive, like tv or actually these forums. I know forums made it really easy for me to quit any game, cause I would just go around posting forums then playing video games. Get a job, if you don't have one already Something to get your mind off of it, but the fact that you realize that you have the problem is good. I am sure you will beat it soon, and I hope you do. Cause MMORPG are time wasters that give you really no benefits (sorry to offend anyone but you know its true). Talk to your parents about it (if you can, not everyone feels like they can talk to their parents), tell them you want to quit playing them and you want them to help you. Maybe they will be more eager to drive you places or give you money to do other activities.

You're lucky if it's just that easy for you. Not to me, and surely to many others. I can't just go to parental controls and do all that, it's harder than you think. It's like telling someone addicted to cigarettes to only smoke once a day, some people can do that, but some peole don't have that kind of willpower. Cigarettes and drugs control peoples lives, i'm at the point now where WoW is controlling mine. Just today I told myself i'm not going to play, when I got home I completely lost control of myself. I need WoW to control myself.

I can't explain it any better than how d3nic just worded it.

Delete your character or sell your account works pretty well, of course then you shouldn't use character recovery like me. :)

Currently I've worked my way up as second tank in a raiding guild after quitting for 2 months. Even though it's not so hardcore when it comes to time-consumption, we are into SSC atm (downed Magtheridon 2 weeks ago) so I try to restrict myself when it comes to playing.

I play from 4 to 6 pm (farming or 1 heroic instance), have dinner, raid from 7pm to 11pm and then log off. I do not play on Saturdays and on Sundays I play from 6pm to 11pm or so. I have some RL friends I play with, and some people I've known through WoW for a while, I've told them my plan and schedule and asked them to remind me to stick to this.

This way you can be an active raider and enjoy all the good content without being seriously addicted. Although the time I play WoW now might sound like an insane amount to some people, it really is peanuts compared to what I used to play.

And I personally think you shouldn't see playing WoW is a sin or anything, if you can restrict yourself so that your study/personal life doesn't suffer from it you shouldn't feel guilty about playing it.
