Addicted to WoW.

I can't unsubscribe.... I've took a mage to 70 and I'm currently playing a level 42 hunter....

The thing is, I really want to stop playing but I can't... If I did stop playing I'd only come back to RuneScape and be addicted to RuneScape again....

Maybe the word "addicted" is a bit dramatic, but I've put a lot of time into video games and in the end I know I'll never get anything from them....

Has anyone been in the same position as me before ?

What did you do to stop playing ? Tips/suggestions please !

Thanks.

Believe me, there have been plenty of people in the same position as you. And "addicted" is not dramatic for most of them, in facts it is probably an understatement.

There is not any specific way you are going to be able to quit other than having a little bit of discipline.

If its screwing up your grades etc. you have a problem. If it isn't, you don't want a social life, and you are enjoying it; who cares? :-$ If you don't have the least bit of self control, ask your parents to take your computer unless you need it for schoolwork or something... unless you have moved out, in that case, grow up and gain some self control dammit.

It's not that easy... Most of my spare time is spent on my PC doing things...

The area I live in their are no people who are the same age as me... Just either a lot younger or alot older than me... So I have nothing better to do.

I'm 16 so I don't live alone....

Shoot your computer.

lol why do that? toss from a 3 store window, wont waste bullets :P

OT: just kuz you play a game alot doesn't mean your addicted, if games run your life, then yes, but you talk with friends, keep good grades, dont get into to much trouble, go to the movies every now and then, whats the big deal?

Why do you need to get anything out of video games? As long as you do them in your free time then who cares?

I mean if you spend all your time studying or working, it would only show your life isn't your own, a person shouldn't have to spend every moment of every day making everyone else happy, there has to be time for yourself.

You just gotta remember to open the window first.

Anyway try cutting down your play time. Try cutting down 15mins a week. It'll help stop your addiction, a full stop at once always fails.

He said there aren't many people his age in that area, that's a huge problem. It will easily drive you into spending most of your time on games since you want something interactive and your society most likely can't provide that. How many 16 year olds seriously want to play teletubbies with kids or bridge with seniors.. All day?

Start a physical hobby or a sport to set your mind off the game for a while 8-) Go to the gym or play football, tennis...

You don't have to completely stop gaming. If somebody is hopelessly addicted to reading books, he can still have a balanced life and read books 2-4 hours a day, preferably on evenings (but that's your choice)

Well you should find something you enjoy, and don't listen to people who say certain activities can only be done by a certain gender for instance I am a guy and I enjoy ballrooming dancing, cooking, gardening, drawing and I have freinds who are girls who like art, football and futbol. All you need to do is experiement and see what you like.

Start playing a sport, or get a girlfriend mate.

or both.

They will take up all the extra time you have and you wont even think about being addicted to WoW or RS for a while :P

Truth.

Imo start a phsyical hobby. Weightlifting, sports, running/biking. You'll get a lot out of those and you won't be thinking about video games while you're running a few miles (you'll probably be wishing you could breathe or that your legs would work right).

Another option. Get a job. You get money and since you don't have much of a social life, it'll give you something to do (my stupid job ruined my social life <.< )

There's a doctor who said that up to 40% of WoW players meet the requirements to be called "addicted".

In the general population, the % of people who suffer from addiction is of 5% to 10% which is standard for most addictive behaviors, so we can assume that in everygame there's atleast 5% to 10% of people who are clinically addicted, but I bet there's much more since mmorpgs inherently attract people with certain problems in their life that the mmorpg will artifically fix, thus people become addicted to them.

2480+ total

How so?

School during day, work at night. Leave very little time to just hang out with my friends. I actually had to take this coming weekend off just so I can hang out with them :? I have to talk to my boss about get a lot less hours..

Edit: And I work a lot of 7 or 8 hour shifts on weekends (which go from early afternoon into the night..)

Give me your account details. I'll change them, delete all your characters and get you banned from alleged paedophilia.

If that isn't a deterrent to play, I don't know what is.

I know exactly how you feel man.

I've gotten to the point where my grades have been lowering, hardly any social life and if I am out all i'm thinking about is "Damn, I wish I were home right now", My lunch money is basically my WoW membership pass money, and a whole lot of other stuff in my life just slowly crashing.

I've tried not paying for a membership pass but after a couple weeks I start my account up again.

I consider myself an addict, maybe something worse than an addict. I really want to stop but I mentally can't. If i'm not playing I feel miserable and can't stop thinking about it. All that's going through my mind is "I need better armor, I need my epics, I need gold, etc.." I can't control it. When I am playing I feel relaxed, nothing is on my mind, it's like a drug.

Please, my only advice to someone starting up an account is to take caution, if you know you have an addictive personality then I strongly suggest you do not play. I ignored what all my peers told me about the game and now it's slowly eating away at my life. Just reading what I wrote right now made me realize how bad this addiction has become.

Please, any adive would be appreciated by me, d3nic, and others.

Hey dude...

I renewed my WoW membership early this morning... However, I cancelled it like 30 mins ago.... Yes, I still can play for another month, but I'm not going too.

I've just renewed my Runescape membership... HOWEVER, I want to take my play time into moderation and not go over the top.

Maybe I'm an all or nothing guy.... But if you avoid something you want to do, it's only going to hurt you more.... I've now realised that the only person who can take action is me...

You sound like a future me. To me, I think WoW will be less addicting. It's not hard to "beat" it and get bored of PvP whereas in Runescape there's TONS of grind that takes FOREVER.
