Emission Reduction?

Are we really trying to reduce our emissions? Or are the governments making it seem like we are?

Canada recently admitted they wouldn't reach their 2010 Kyoto Protocol. If we really cared about this, and not our pocket books... Would we still be having this issue?

Look at it this way, my province has three certain ways to produce energy, we've got hydro, solar and wind energy at our fingertips!

Yet we don't take advantage of this. The goverment is in it for money and for the most part, don't care about anything else. (In my oppinion.)

Here's the example:

I'm almost certain that big cities like Toronto and Atlanta will be unbreathable in years to come, if we keep this up. No this isn't a global warming rant. This is a look at energy conservation in order for us to be able to breath, in order for us to not run out of resources. Sure they say they fund millions of dollars into RD every year. But how much of it goes into actual reasearch for new resources? Just think about it, post your thoughts.

Thank you

I agree..

I think that they really need to actually put the money to good use, instead of making excuses for where the money would be better spent.

In Soviet Russia, glass eats OTers.

Alansson Alansson, woo woo woo!

Pink owns yes, just like you!

GOOOOOOOOOO ALAN! WOO!

Green energy isn't all amazingly good itself.

Take hydroelectricity; A huge mass of land flooded, which can be used for farming and in most cases it means certain people have to be relocated from their homes. It's ugly, it harms the landscape. It costs a huge amount of money to build, if an accident occurs there can be thousands of casualties.

Try looking at the subject from both sides of view, the government officials do have children who they love and for whom the world to be a pleasant state.

A friend to all is a friend to none.

It's not amazing but it is a start, and I have looked and both sides, it's mostly the politicians that don't want to bring up something new, they don't want to potentially ruin their career. So no one has challenged what we use now.

There'd be some truth in saying politicians look for these things in this order:

1) Votes

2) The country

They'll eventually get a slap in the face when by every measure we have, there'll be 20 years fossil fuels left.

Politicians think too much short term, but the long term will be the next election fad.

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

I'd hope it's a bit more than a fad, for everyone's sake.

Is it safe to assume that they start off with big hopes and dreams that could actually help, but then are changed in the process of becoming their dream? Maybe fame or money deters them from what's actually important?

Oh, politics, politics, politics.....

Im not sure if any of you guys have seen the movie Man of the year, even though it was a comedy movie, it held some very truthful facts. Politicians mnay start off with big ideas, all these huge things that will help the country/environment/etc., but geuss what? To get elected to do all these thigns, they need m,oney. And the peopel wih thewn most money that will donate to politicians, are those who need to protect themselves such as oil companies. huge software industry, doesn't need to protect themselves from the goevernment, but a huge oil industry that causes amjor pollution does. So they give themm money in return that they won't carry otu all these new iddeas. The politicans end up owing these huge companies a favor. And if any of you guys say Who killed the eltric car?, 2 out of the 5 confirmed suspects was the governament. Two more being the oil industry and the automobile manufacturers. As Bill Clinton was in the White House, when eletric cars were big, he wanted to raise the feul economy standards, and basicall making the automobile companies produce hybrids, eletric cars, etc. But geuss who had the money? the oil company and the automobile industries, so if Clinton instituted that, he wopuldn't be gettign any of that money. So he laid off the new laws, and thats bascially one of the reasons why the eletric car was destroyed.

The govfernment is a huge part of portectign the environment, but the ones who danger the environment are also the ones who give those same politicians money, so until there is a brave neough politician, who is able to win elections wihtout that money, we can hardly expect anyhtign form the govenrement to stop this.

The world's too divided by barriers based on a plethora of things. For example, if a huge US city was in danger of, I don't know, let's say a hurricane, and there was a giant US company that could help save millions of lives, they'd still charge for their services. <.<
