So, I'm painting my room, and I just had this awesome idea. I should paint my room in the style of Mondrian! But I'm wondering if this Modernist look would look good with traditional furniture, which I can Modernize, probably in the design of Bauhaus and/or Rietveld.

 

 

 

And also, if you were me, do you think it would drive you crazy?

I think I would regret it after 2 weeks, but it would be cool for a while.

 

 

 

The colors Piet Mondriaan uses are very bright, I dont think they suit a whole bedroom.

 

 

 

(You know, suddenly you have a terrible headache, cant find rest anywhere, you run to your room, even more headache :) )

Should I frame it in black? And should I paint the floor moldings black? or continue the design on them?

I don't think Piet Mondrian was atall interested in usablity, his designs were solely inspired by Jazz music with his trips to America, Bright colourful lights and busy streets at night I think so too. His Room creations just look very cold and wouldn't really work as a theme.

 

 

 

I do think creating some artwork would be nice, canvas' are really cheap, everywhere I look they're like ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã6 in A2.. don't take long to do.

 

 

 

If you want to take a page out of the Red House by William Morris, just remember that it was made with the quote, something like.. 'Not to have anything that isn't either beautiful nor useful'. (not quoted word perfectly btw just off memory).

 

 

 

And I think the Bauhaus said 'Less is more'. So don't try to overcomplicate anything, Walls generally set a mood, which is why neutral colour work so well. If you want such bold statements I really wouldnt attack a whole 4 walls, you have to live in it dude..

Yes actually, that might work. Sounds fun :D

Perhaps instead of painting your whole wall entirely in the design, give it a base coat of white or something, with sparsely distributed thick lines of colour. Accompany this with some canvas paintings in the style, with the design you were going to use anyway, hang about 3 or 5 (odds work best) around the room.

 

 

 

Just an alternative in case you regret it later.

i think a feature wall is good but try to do it on the wall which is most covered so, as people have said, it doesn't drive you nuts, i think for the other 3 walls you should use the colours of the feature wall but choose calmer less vibrant versions so maybe instead of the bright yellow a calmer yellowy/cream colour instead of blue a calm sky blue and instead of red....urrrm....pink? lol

im under the strong opinion that those colour will give you a headache, and when your ill they wont help!

 

 

 

id go for maybe a light brown, a cream, something like that for your walls, i guess it depends on your room alot, but that kinda colour works well, maybe a half coffe half white tone.

 

 

 

then, as terly suggested about the canvas, get a canvas and paint a design on there, remember its alot easier and cheaper to replace a canvas than re-make a whole room.

oh and when your doing it, use masking tape to keep the lines straight and neat, else it will look dreadful (unless your like very steady handed and have alot of time)
