Is RuneScape running out of usernames?

 

 

 

My Idea:

 

 

 

For every account banned for Rule 7 (Macroing), Jagex reuses their username. (I know exactly what your thinking. No one but macros want names called Xangzhao. At least it would give a bigger variety of names for people who want them)

 

 

 

Also, for every account permanently banned with all appeals denied, Jagex sends them a PM and asks if they can reuse his username.

 

 

 

One more thing: If an account hasn't been played on for X days, Jagex sends him a PM and asks if they can reuse his username.

 

Or for players who are qutting and never coming back, they can donate their username to Jagex.

Only problem I see is with famous or infamous players who have quit/been banned. Other than that a good idea. Also maybe you have an option to delete your account, which automatically "donates" your username.

I don't think that they will ever run out of names. Each name can have 12 characters, which includes letters, numbers, and underscores. There are 37 total characters that can be chosen 12 different ways, where you can repeat characters. You then know that you have a permutation, so you get 37!/(37-12)! Simplified, you get 37!/25!, which gives you 887,342,319,056,793,600 different names. I don't think that there will be 887 quadrillion different accounts in runescape.

 

To put that into another perspective, the estimated world population for the beginning of July 2007 is 6,602,224,175. If everybody in the entire world were to make the same amount of accounts, each person would have to make 134,400,513.5 accounts. I don't think that we have to recycle accounts.

Well, it would still be better for those names to be reusen, no matter how many names are possible, as the macro users dont even care about the names. There might be some people who would appreciate those strange names, for whatever reason.

True, but you're forgetting about the fact that you can't put in a double underscore or space

I want the RSN God, honestly that is such a rad name.

Mabey if account names in the top 10k or 20k or 50k overall could not be used again. For the sake of the players that quit and put months of time on their accounts. Just a though.... that might help this suggestion

If they quit, they get to choose to donate it or keep it, so they wouldn't have to worry about that, unless they said they would donate it.

Really think so? I though i was a stupid idea at frist... but a lot of things would have to be wored ut with the other plyers not ranked in the top 10k,20k or 50k in overall high scores

to start out with they're dead. TO second that point they're dead. unless up in heaven/hell they have PC's that they can use (unlikely to let ppl use them in hell....) they can't do that and to third what i just said there is no such place as heaven or hell!

 

 

 

P.S. i also want to say that people should be the ones to choose whether their username is reused. Like i'm going to be away for one month this summer. do i really want my account to be gone when i come back? NO
