Led-Zeppelin
Yeah, what if you were heading out the door, pat your back pockets to check you have your wallet. Doh! Head back inside to grab your wallet. You're only delayed for twenty seconds, but that could be the differnce between getting mowed down by a crazy driver or not. highlanders
Err well that's true. But I do think we walk a path in life. Like a destiny, but we choose how we get there. My theory is: We start at point A: A______1________2__________3_________B Then somewhere there's point B, and whatever we do we will go through point 1, 2 and 3 (important destiny events) and end up in point B. We just choose how we get there. So according to my theory, whatever chain-event a small event triggers, it may change our path, but not how it ends, and what key events happen in it. Example: You're supposed to die at day B by saving a child from getting squished by a truck. Option 1: You decided to be a burglar, on day B you walk towards the museum in order to check the structure and make plans for your next robbery. As you walk, you see a child crossing the corner of the street towards the museum, you courageously leap and save him from death. Option 2: You decided to be a economist. You daughter has a homework and she asked you to go at the museum help her gather information. As you walk, you see a child crossing the corner of the street towards the museum, you courageously leap and save him from death. Common key event: The day your father taught you that saving human lives was the most important thing in life. So let's say idk a chain event happens at your office's shredder and your arm is shredded. It won't change how you save the little child on the day of your death. That's how life works in my opinion. I couldn't care less about chain events, unless they get my arm shredded  . 2480+ total
Rebdragon
By the common English context of "life-altering decision", only the choices that we make that would have a deep effect on our future (i.e., what major(s) we choose) would fall into that category. So no, you're wrong. In scenarios where one's actions are minor, the drastic change in our future is [almost?] always someone else's decision, not ours. The life-altering decision was not the person who commited the minor act, but the one who committed the major one and thus drastically affected both of the two's futures. You can call yourself right, but that's just being annoyingly technical. Of course choosing whether or not to tap our fingers on the desk in the middle of class will inevitably change our future to some extent, but nowhere near the level at which anyone would call that decision a life-altering decision. Don't overanalyze trivial matters about life anyways. It'll just pointlessly make your brain hurt. IGoddessI
Why can't it work the opposite way and change someones life? Why see the bad in everything if there can be a good. Perhaps someone made your life hell in high school but these bullies taught you the value of sticking up for yourself. Perhaps you were over weight and learnt the value of looking after yourself and self esteem. Perhaps you failed high school then went on to get a PhD and learnt that when people tell you things are impossible, you make your own decisions if they can be or not. Perhaps someone you loved died but it taught you the value of how precious life is and to make the most of every moment. Perhaps you failed an exam and then learnt a lesson that when you give up on things, they only go downhill. Perhaps if your mum or dad never told you they were proud of you once since you've been alive you can learn to appreciate all the achievement you've conquered on your own and realise nobody elses opinion counts but yours. Perhaps you got bashed and learnt the concept that at times its better to keep your mouth closed and opinions to yourself. Bad things happen, but without bad, there can be no good. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours. assassin_696
Chaos theory...meh. No point worrying about it, you can never predict whether the outcome will be good or bad so you may as well just not worry. specialcharacter
This is a very over the top exaggerated view. I mean come on not every little choice will be life changing at all.
