A Souls Bane

A Young Boys Struggle In Becoming A Man

It was the most interesting, touching quest quest in which I have ever embarked

Quickly I prepared for the adventure that lay ahead. I had just accepted a request from a little old lady to rescue her son. Looking down in the large ditch I realized it would be no small feat so I rushed to gather supplies.

I grabbed my armor, a good weapon, a little food, and some rope and headed back to the pit where the boy was lost. Little did I know I would be following the footsteps of a lost little boys journey in becoming a man.

I reached the deep canyon, set up some rope, and climbed down. I then found myself in a room, a room of rage. I heard a voice.

"Why should I be trapped in such a wretched place?! What's happening inside me? All I feel is so much RAGE!!!"

Before me I saw four beasts; a bear, a unicorn, a goblin, and a rat. I was suddenly filled with rage and had slain each of them with a different weapon which was mounted on the wall.

I then saw a vision of a boy trapped inside himself. He lashed out at the people that loved him the most with rage!

"Why is this happening to me?" I thought, but I pressed on to the next room.

Upon entering this room I heard the voice again, "I'm trapped and it's so dark. I feel trapped inside and FEAR I may never escape this place! Someone help me! Help me!"

"Is that you Tolna?!" I shouted, "You're mothers looking for you! Where are you?! Don't... scare me like this... SAY SOMTHING!"

No answer...

I looked around the room I was in, it was very dark and mysterious. I noticed a hole in the wall. Something drew me towards the hole. I looked inside of it and all I could see is pitch black.

SCREEEEEEEACH!

A banshee shot out of the hole and jumped out at me! It nearly scared me death! I bit my fear and sliced through it with my weapon!

More and more banshees shot out and me and I continued to fight them until I was no longer scared.

I then had another vision. This was a vision of that same little boy again, he was hiding within himself, afraid. Afraid of the future afraid of what other people thought of him, afraid of everything...

The vision ended and I continued into the next room.

As soon as I set foot into the room I heard the voice again, "What is the meaning of this? Why am I here? When will it all end? Am I still the person I once was? Why must there be so much CONFUSION???"

"Don't worry!" I shouted, "I'm coming to save you! I'll be there soon!

..wont I?"

Then I saw these strange creatures that seemed to have both hands and feet for hands and feet. Sound confusing? Well that's because it was!

I tried attacking them but they would just disappear. I was never sure if they were real or not! But once in a while I would actually be able to hit them and they would die! Sometimes I would try to hit them for a while and find out I'm actually attacking nothing, or a nearby wall or something else.

I finally defeated all the beasts of confusion and deception though and it seemed as soon as I had all the confusion I had was gone.

I then found the next door and pressed on, but not before having yet another vision.

In this vision I saw the little boy, he was lost in confusion, mumbling to himself, wandering around with no particular direction. He was lost...

As soon as I entered the next room I felt very apathetic. I heard the voice again, "What's the point? Why do I try? I have so much HOPELESSNESS... No-one will ever help me. No one understands who I am. No one loves me. No one..."

Then I saw some strange creatures crawling on the floor. They had two legs and two arms like people do but they didn't move like people did. Their joints contorted and twisted in ugly strange ways. Snarling and moaning, they began to move towards me. They started throwing strange blue balls at me that came from their hands! The balls would hit me right and left, they didn't hurt, but... I was suddenly filled with a feeling of hopelessness... I didn't feel like pressing on...

"These rooms never end..." I told myself

Then one of the creatures grabbed me by the ankle and began to sink into the floor! He was trying to pull me with him! I Couldn't let him! I couldn't let him pull me with him and become apart of this strange place I was in! I sliced him with my sword and cut him good! After slaying him I was filled with a little confidence. I sliced through all the monsters and destroyed them one by one! After each one I would kill I became more and more determined to finish and after all of them were dead I saw a huge bridge of light appeared! The bridge went over a large gap and lead to the next door. Before setting foot on the bridge I had yet another strange vision.

This time I saw the boy laying on the ground in his own self pity. He had lost all hope and looked to be in a drunken state, rambling on about his troubles.

Final Fight

I entered the next room to see a huge ugly monster with four heads! I sensed this is what Tolna had become, this is what this strange place has changed him into! A beast!

Each of the heads looked different. One was angry and vicious and cringed at my sight in disgust. One of them looked to be very scared of me, it veered its head back and jerked around, whenever I would move it would jump a little. Another one looked blank, it just gave me an odd stare, if I tried to say anything to it, it would just stare at me emotionless. The last head was very sad, I could see the tears streaming down its face, it didn't want to be here, it didn't want to be the way it was, it just wanted everything to stop!

I said to the heads, "Tolna! Listen to me! You have to listen to me! You're not really this way! Don't you understand? You've let yourself become a monster! Tolna! Turn away! Deny that monster inside you! Just reach inside of yourself and you'll find your true identity!"

Each of the heads refused my words in their own way and then began to attack! They spit darts of fire at me that poisoned on the touch! They tried to hurt me but they couldn't, I was protected in a full set of armor given to me by my King.

I was forced to slay the four heads and free the boy from inside himself so that he could find his true identity.

Manhood

And there he laid after his defeat, broken. Only now he laid there as a man and not a boy. But still broken none the less. Then his father came...

"Tolna..." His father said.

Tolna had no response.

"Tolna, it's your dad..." Said his father again.

"So now you come?" Inquired Tolna

"...Yes Tolna, I know it's been a long time... I know there have been crucial times in your life that I wasn't there for you... and it's true I wasn't... I wasn't a good dad all the time... but you have to understand son, I was scared... Being a father was a new thing for me... I didn't know how to do it... But son, I'm here now and I want you to know... I love you."

Tolna stood up and looked his father in the eye.

"Tolna, please forgive me, forgive me for not being there enough in your life. I never showed you how to become a man. I'm here now...

I love you son."

"Dad... All I ever wanted to hear from you is those words..."

Tolna gave his dad a big long hug and said, "I forgive you dad."

Tears were streaming down both of their faces. The boy had been though so much and now he had finally grown up. He finally took responsibility for his own life and he finally forgave his father.

A tear even made its way down my face, and I quickly stroked it away.

"Good to see you two could sort everything out..." I said, "wish I could have that with my dad..."

I turned away and climbed back up to the surface.

"Another quest finished... It was the most interesting, touching quest in which I have ever embarked"

A boys struggle becoming a man

The above post is about an actual quest in Runescape. After doing the quest I realized that it actually has some symbolic meaning. It is supposed to represent a boys journey in becoming a man and the struggles he must face.

Rage

Fear

Confusion

Hopelessness

Every boy must face these feelings growing up and too many boys these days grow up without a father figure to help and show them how to deal with these issues. Too many boys grow up thinking their fathers hate them, all a son needs to hear from his father are those four words "I love you son". There's something about a fathers love that can brighten up the life of a young boy. If the boy has a good upbringing and is shown the difference between right and wrong from his father, he will grow up knowing what it is to be a true man.

So what is it? When does a boy become a man? When he become 18? When he hits puberty? When he grows his first chest hair? When he takes a woman to bed?

None of these are the answer.

A true man is one that exhibits these four qualities.

-Reject passivity

-Accepts responsibility

-Leads courageously

-Expects Gods full reward, the greater reward

Every boy needs a father that can teach him these things. Every boy needs a father to come along side him and tell him, "you did good son". For those of you that never had a father like this I just want to tell you,

DON'T YOU EVER GIVE UP HOPE! Keep pressing on and become the man you are supposed to be. Don't hide inside yourself, don't let out your rage on the people that love you, don't get lost in your own confusion.

Just be all that you can be, just be yourself, never loose your true identity.

Thank you whocares for your comment. I have thought about writing books and I will someday. This little blog is just a tiny training ground for me!

Now I'd like to tell my handfull of fans that I wont be playing Runescape for a while and that's why I've given all of you this big dramatic thing.

I will return in the future and deliever my funny little tid bits maybe I'll even drop by every once in a while, but for now I think I'm laying down the sword.

I have other projects I need to work on, such as starting my writing career.

I'm currently working on writing an article for my friends website and I just might make a website of my own containing a new blog. Can't say too much about it on these forums however because I'm supposed to focus on my Runescape life.

If any of you are interested in hearing more about what I'll be working on send me an e-mail at [email protected].

I'll be happy to answer all your questions and inform you if I ever get my own website up! ^_^

Who knows, maybe I'll come back to Runescape sooner then I think for more creative ideas . . .

One day I posted a thread on the Runescape forums saying I was selling D legs. I told everyone to private message me their offers.

World2guy logged in

To World2guy: Ok, can I meet you in this world, seers bank?

From World2guy: Yeah, I'll be there in a couple minutes

To World2guy: Ok

30 minutes later and no sign of World2guy. Someone else walks up to me and offers to sell me Dharoks legs.

Superseller482: Wanna buy Dharok legs?

Bostonjoe:...

Superseller482: Real cheep :)

Bostonjoe: No! I don't want to buy Dharok legs! I want to sell Dragon legs! Someone told me they'd buy them for 2.2mil but it's been 30 minutes and he's still not here! So no, I do not want to buy your Dharok legs! Do I look like I want to buy Dharok legs? I'm wearing Dragon legs ffs!! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Bostonjoe runs around seers bank several times screaming

Bostonjoe: GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Bostonjoe: Muahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Bostonjoe: **** it! :XD:

True story?

Yep it was a true story. Even the part about me running around seers bank screaming. All the names of everyone else who spoke to me were chaged. Not for privacy purposes but simply because I can't remember their names.

I have some other stories I want to write about that actually happend to me, but I'm still thinking about how to make them as funny as possible.

The monkey in my head is working on the ech-n-scetch right now to create the perfect format for my next new and interesting story.

Monkey: Eek eek eeeeek!!

Oh ya, and those D legs are still for sale.

Ha, funny story. I didn't know D legs droped that low in price, but I've been smithing mostly lately.

Anyways keep it up, bump.

smallsigr.jpg

Heh.. pretty funny stuff. I couldn't read the longer ones tonight, I'm too tired and don't have the patience. Meh.. oh well.

I'll read 'em later.

:D Keep up the good work!

Thanks for all the nice comments. I was really surprised when I was trying to merchant that day. Prices on alot of things had gone down. I found out the price of D legs has gone way down to like 2mil on adverage. Lots of other things went down too, and I ended up paying a little more for certain things then I needed too.

EVERYONE KEEP IN MIND! Pricess are going down on alot of things latly for some reason. It's weird how prices fluctuate, I sold a granite shield for 150k one day, tried to do it again the next day and I could barely get 80k for it on the forums.

Anyways, I better come up with another story soon before my blog becomes a discussion page on merchanting.

P.S. Lunar_Drifer, welcome to the family of very small Bostonjoe fans. . .

Wait that came out wrong, welcome to the very small family of Bostonjoe fans!

Yep, that's better.

Anger Management Much?

(Merchantile part 2!)

Update:

After failing to sell the D Legs the first time, I went into a wild depression that lasted about... 2 minutes. Later I went back on the forums and posted a new thread. It was another Dragon Legs auction. This time I used fancy words and made it sound really... buyable... You know, merchant tricks, that's it!

I got few repies but one guy who wanted to buy them was a real jerk!

The first offer I got was 2mil, then this [wagon] hole comes by and offers just 1k more.

Then he has the nerve to pm me and says this:

From [wagon]: So when does the auction end?

To [wagon]: Whenever I feel like ending it

From [wagon]: Did you see my post

To [wagon]: Let me check

To [wagon]: Ok, to be honest I'm looking for around 2.2mil, I probably wont end the auction until I see someone offer that much.

From [wagon]: I'm going to report you for not selling for as much as you say on the forums

To [wagon]: It's an auction <.<

From [wagon]: Well no ones going to pay anymore for it

To [wagon]: We'll just wait and see, I am in no way obligated to sell to you btw

From [wagon]: Whatever

I was so pissed off at him that I had a friend bid higher, I was hoping that he'd give up and go away and someone else would bid 2.2mil. But no, he came back.

Gravedigg bid 2.03mil and then the little cheepskate came back and bid 2.031mil, exactly 1k more!

I posted this:

Would anyone like to start bidding in increments of 100k, rather then increments of freaking 1k?!

So Gravedigg, being the great friend that he is bid 2.1mil again in hopes that SOMEONE... ANYONE, would bid 2.2mil.

[wagon] resorted to posting this little message:

Gravedigg, I'll sell to you for 2.09mil

Ok, now he's really pissing me off! No merchant is going to out merhcant a merchant like me!! I'll show that little... :-#

No one wanted to bid any higher however and time was running out, Grave didn't even want to pay that much lol.

Then I got in a long talk with an old friend that happend to log in. We private messaged for a while. I was standing on the dock at port sarim for a long time pming when someone walked up and offered me 2.4mil the D legs I was wearing!

Sweet Jebus! I'll accept that offer!

We ran that little piggy to the bank, and he forked over the cash, I was very happy.

2 hours later I get another pm from [wagon].

From [wagon]: So did you sell the D legs yet?

To [wagon]: Yes, I sold them for 2.4mil ::'

From [wagon]: lol

To [wagon]: Yeah, you can take that lol and shuv it up yer bum! You ****ing ******ed **** exuse for a ****!

I don't really like to cuss alot, in fact I try to avoid it, espeshially in RS, but this ****er had it coming!

Great stories, I loved all of them!

I really hope to see more of your work soon here on Tip.It. ::'

Oh don't worry, I'll try and post stories as often as I can. And as often as they come... in my head...

I have a few ideas and a few things I want to write about but I'm not sure how to throw it all togeather and make it funny.

I drift in and out of the artistic mood...

Writing a good story is like having a romantic dinner.

The mood is right.

The atmosphere, perfect.

You can feel it's the right time.

And then everything seems to fall into place.

You just go with the flow of it, and whatever happens, happens.

Finally you decide to lean in for the kiss. . .

And if everything is just perfect and the chemistry mixes well, the end result will be extraordinary!

With writing you have 5 elements that make a good story.

The idea, the inspiration, the desire, the mood, and the raw talent.

It is when these five elements mix together oh so perfectly that you have the perfect story. And of course it takes some time and careful editing before it can be mended perfectly.

So anyways, when I started this post I didn't think I'd get into all this, but the chemistry was just right you see, and I decided to lean in for the kiss, and as you can see the end result was extraordinary!

Haha, yeah, I'll finish that story later. Writers block is a serious issue. Somtimes ice cream helps! :D

Just to let everyone know, I'm working on my first ever comic. Now, it's not going to be drawn by hand, because if it were it would suck. Instead I'm taking in game pictures and editing them with a special program.

Hopefully it will end up looking great.

We'll see.

Puppet Master

He moves the puppet to and fro, it comes alive in his hands.

"Look at him dance, look at him sing! Oooh hoho dance puppet dance!"

He loved his puppet, again and again, every day he would make it move, animate it into life!

"Ha-ha, puppet, you're so silly, so funny! Nicely done puppet! Again again!"

But one day the puppet rebelled!

"Yes puppet, move! That's excellent puppet, do it again! Hey! Grr, move! What is this? I move the strings yet he stays still?!"

Let go of me you fool!

"What? You speak? But you're just a puppet!"

Yes, just a puppet but you treat me as if I'm a person! Yet your surprised when I actually speak on my own? Day in and day out you control me, telling me what to do, well I'm sick of it!

"This is madness! You're daft! You're mad! You're insane!"

You're the one talking to a puppet...

"Shut up! Grr! Move puppet! Move!"

For 3 years you've had me, don't you think it's finally time...

"No!"

To cut...

"Don't say it!"

The strings!

"Noooooooooo!!! Never! I'll never let you go! I neeeed you!"

Let me go! Let me go! Don't you want me to be free?! Don't you want me to move on my own?! It's time... It's time for me to be me! It's time to be free! Release me from these strings, let me go!

"Puppet... I'm afraid I cannot let you go"

And he threw the puppet in a chest and never touched it again for three days. On the third day he was sitting at home, and his eyes peered over to the chest again.

Scrrreeeeech. He slowly opened the chest.

"Puppet?"

He picked the puppet up, it only hung from the strings, motionless. He poked the puppet, hoping it would move and talk again on it's own.

"Hello, puppet? Please move again! Please, I'm sorry."

No response, the man began to cry.

"No! No puppet! I'm sorry! Please move! Please?"

Again, no response. The man desperately made the puppet move, he made it dance, he made it sing, hoping the puppet would come alive again. But it didn't.

He took the puppet into his workshop and set it on the table, he then grabbed a pair of scissors from a nearby drawer. With a tear in his eye, he held the puppet up and sheepishly opened the scissors, ready to cut the strings.

SNIP SNIP SNIP

The puppet fell motionless on the table. The man stared at it for a moment then reached out and poked it a few more times.

"Come on puppet, get up. Be free!"

Still no response.

"Isn't this what you wanted?! Was it not you who desperately asked me to set you free?! 'Cut the strings!' you pleaded, and now I do so and you just lay there! What is the matter with you, puppet! Why won't you move? I free you, and now you trap me in this sorrow!"

The man shoved the puppet off the table, laid his head down in his arms and wept.

"Why do you hurt me so puppet? Why do you torment my soul?"

Days passed and eventually the man forgot about the puppet, until one day he was reminded of it, and the same sadness returned to him again. He went back to the table where the puppet had once laid, and it wasn't there. He searched underneath the table, he looked under his chair, he even proceeded to search throughout the whole house, the puppet was gone!

"Puppet! Where are you?! I want you back! I miss your company..."

More days went by, and the man fell into a great depression. He didn't feel like doing anything anymore, all the things he loved to do, he stopped. He just laid there, strung out on his bed, like a motionless puppet without strings. Finally, one day, the puppet returned.

Look at you, pathetic man! Strung out on the bed, just as I was once. You are hopeless without me!

"Puppet? Is that really you?" The mans eyes bulged, his ears perked up, he began to get out of bed.

Pathetic man, it was you who once controlled me, but now we see who the real puppet master is, it's me who controls you! I control you're feelings, you're every thought! When I am gone you are sad and when I'm here you are happy! Your feelings revolve around me! Without me you're hopeless in abandonment, just as I am whenever you throw me about.

The man just stared in astonishment for a moment.

"I'm sorry puppet... I didn't realize what I was doing to you, controlling you for so long. Now I see, now I know what it's like... to be hung from the strings of another. I release you, be free! Leave me in my drunken stupor, You need not waste your time with me, I'm just an old lonely man!"

Thank you dear soul. I give you much gratitude for what you've done. But this is not just for me, but for you, now you can live your life without me, go out and be social with your own kind! Just be yourself, and you will find true happiness!

So the puppet left, and never came back, and the man eventually found true happiness.

To love, we must loose.

To love... we must sometimes... Give up the person who is so closest to us...

Cut the strings!

Still working on the comic, it has nothing to do with this story btw.

This story still needs some work. I got the idea while thinking of the puppets from last Christmas in Runescape. It was orignially supposed to be a funny little sniplet about Bostonjoe going a little crazy, talking to a puppet, but it's become much more. I think I'll edit it a bit later and try to get the message behind it much more clear.

The relationship between the puppet master and the puppet could mean several diffrent things. :-k

It could be a relationship between a parent or child where the parent does not want to let go of the child and let them go out on their own and flourish. It could also represent a relationship between a man and woman where either one is too controlling. Or it could be any other unhealthy relationship or soul tie between two people where there is a need to seperate to make one or the other happy.

Or the puppet could be any object that people focus all their attention on and become addicted to. Drugs, alchohol, *cough* Runescape *cough.

The puppet master may think he has control over these things, but in the end it's the puppet who has control over him.

Tho I enjoy comedy, I also enjoy being serious and dramatic too...

I think I need to get a Comedy/Tragety sig!

I love every single story!
