~ Why's My Computer SOOOOOO Loud? ~

Featured Replies

~Well, for some reason, my computer's fan is really, really, REALLY loud. Like, it can be heard from 20 feet away (through a wall.) Is there a way to quiet it down? I don't want to decrease the fan speed, if possible; that might give me a melted computer. Is there something that controls it or a program i can use to keep it less helicopter-like?~

~Thanks~

was it always that loud or did it just start making more noise then normal?

if it was always that loud, then you got a fan that outputs a more db then you are comfortable with, replace the fan with something smaller/slower.

If it just start, shut off the computer, open the case, remove the fan and clean it. Fans can often output more noise if the blades are covered in dirt/dust. If its clean , the bearings may be giving out, replace it.

Do as Albosky said and clean the inside up a bit.

If the noise persists then you will need to locate where the sound is coming from (just listen to the inside of your pc).

If its the fan above the processor (the heatsink fan) you can buy a new one which are generally cheap and highly effective.

If its the case fan (normally on the back) you can buy a new fan which only cost around $4 or so (̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã5ish UK as they cost more, don't ask why) and are very easy to install.

If its the hard drive or graphics card, then there are few easy option outside of buying new ones.

If it's a laptop, don't worry about it. Mine often run at 6200 RPM.

Otherwise, read above. :)

Install what? You never answered the questions they asked you.

You need to explain what you're doing before we can give any useful feedback...

it's very easy to do yourself, especially if you got your computer from dell. Im sure most dells have a switch on that will allow you inside the computer - after that just look for the fan, and there will be either screws or catches to lift up. just take 'em out, get the dust off and put it back in again!

Its more than likely its accumulated alot of dust in there. My laptop did the same. I put the tube of my vacuum cleaner on the fan grill and you should have seen all the dust that came out with it. It was fine after that \'

I advise you do something along the lines of that, but its probably much better and safer to open it up and clear it out that way. Make sure whichever way you choose to do it make sure the power is off though, dont want any electrocutions or broken fans etc. :ohnoes:
