July 1, 200719 yr I want to do a spot of Metal Dragon Hunting every now and then, and I am planning to mage them with fire bolt and chaos gauntlets. Do the drops of the dragons cover the cost of potions and runes? I'm looking for personal experience here, I'm mainly looking to mage Steel Dragons and want to know if it is really worth my time. July 1, 200719 yr Unless you are incredibly unlucky and never get a Skirt/Legs you will make money.. Steels drop a lot of bloods, so if you are using chaos, the bloods alone will help you pretty much break even.

Nice to see another Tasmanian on these forums. :D [Tip.It Mod][Retired][Add your Steam name here!]

July 1, 200719 yr Generally fire bolting steel dragons is profitable, even without dragon drops. Steel dragons drop ALOT of rune items, which can be alched or kept. They also drop lots of rune projectiles which are stackable and the knives and darts sell for a fairly steady 1-2k each. Steel dragons are excellent magic experience and the dragon drops are added extras. They also drop clues which can sometimes wield great rewards. If you choose to mage steel dragons you will probably find you will be breaking even at the LEAST. I would have killed about 1k Steel dragons in my time and have always made profits from one drop or another. Hope i was of help. Weeman.

Thanks, that was a great help, looks like I'll be off to buy some pots and runes. [Tip.It Mod][Retired][Add your Steam name here!]
July 1, 200719 yr Make sure you use Ahrim's down there, or you will get a lot of splashes. I would recommend 85+magic and magic dart instead of fire bolt. You will kill dragons a lot faster that way. Check out this cool browser gladiator game!
July 1, 200719 yr Not to mention runite limbs, which are a ridiculously common drop, and now a highly salable item due to the recent updates to crossbows. I have gotten over 50 of them already, and I'd say they drop about as often as any other rune level ranged item from steel dragons. Remember your wealth ring, and you'll do fine there.
July 1, 200719 yr Its always good to see some1 dying at metal drags, so u might get somethin good from em. If you get a dragon drop, you'll make a lot more then how much pots and runes cost. You'll make the money back cuz of all the rune items they drop, and the bloods. You might also get a visage, and a clue! Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
July 1, 200719 yr the way I look at it is if you hate alching and don't want to pc your magic...its a great way to train mage... obviously the luck has to play on your side for the good d drops but if your down there long enough your bound to get a skirt or some legs to pay for the spells..
July 2, 200719 yr Author Well, I've been down for a little bit. I've already identified where I can make changes. I'm now confident to go down with a ROW instead of a ROL and I will probably invest in Ahrim instead of my mystic/split combo, just too many splashes. I've also noticed, at 74 Magic, that Iron Dragons are a better choice for me. Much less splashes and more drops. If anyone suggests against doing just Irons feel free, but for the number of better hits I am getting, I'd prefer to stick with Irons. To the person who said Magic Dart, only 51 Slayer. :P [Tip.It Mod][Retired][Add your Steam name here!]
