battery in laptop

well basically I just bought a new laptop (thinkpad t 61) and I want to make sure I take good care of it from the start. (Hopefully don't screw it up like my last laptop from sony)

I've heard that its best not to have the battery in when u r using the adapter because eventually it will shorten the battery's life. So it is suggested that you take you the battery OUT when plug into an adapter. The problem with taking out the battery is that, it first leaves this huge space in the back and I just don't want anything to get into them. (sometimes coke spill and stuff to get onto the surface where the battery is connected to)

But back to the question, is it true that when you use adapter, don't have the battery in the laptop>?

Some computers wont work without a battery even if it is plugged into the mains. Batteries last longer when you run them almost flat and then recharge but you cant really get around the natural drain caused by constantly charging as like i said before some laptops wont even work without one inside.

Lastly, im disappointed at this thread I was hoping you'd accidentally spilled batter into your keyboard ans was asking for help :(

nope it wouldn't. Yeah its a bit of a lose/lose situation i know

Yes it would, about half the time. I know in Microsoft's programs (Word for example) will save your work if the computer crashes. Although it's not a guaranty that it will, so don't rely on it.

Running the laptop will not drain the battery anymore than just having it lay there. The batteries will always lose charge as they get older and there is no way to avoid it. I would suggest that you just leave the battery in so nothing happens and forget about it. Your laptop will be long outdated by the time the battery can not be charged anymore.

If you want to be a freak about having a battery last more than 5 years then don't use the battery and store it with 40% charge to prolong the life. Although then you can never use your laptop without the adapter and then the point of a laptop is no good.
