Harrington
Worsening Economy - A Solution? (a work in progress) JUSTIFICATION & EXPLANATION It's becoming clear that the game economy is out of control. The problem is that considerably more money is coming into the game than is leaving it. However, it's the nature of the game for this to happen. Runescape is a world where resources can be created from literally nothing. Be it in the form of monster drops, or resource gathering. I believe the crisis worsening mainly due to the rapid increase in the number of items coming into the game. This problem is being exasperated by the ever increasing number of bots/goldfarmers playing the game. It's very clear that Jagex are NOT winning the battle against bots, regardless of their claims. Yes, they mass ban on a regular basis, and the game is becoming less playable by the ridiculous number of randoms we encounter. For the time being, Jagex are certainly fighting a battle on this front, one I'm sure most of us hope they'll win. Anyway, let's leave the macroer problem firmly in Jagex capable hands and consider an alternative solution. I would like to propose a solution that will permanently remove money from the game and hopefully stablise the game economy to a large extent. The suggestion is simple.... a game lottery. It would be modelled on something similar to the UK national lottery whereby the winnings are somewhat smaller than the actual customer contributions. Essentially, approximately half of the actual ticket sales would be redistributed as winnings while the rest is simply purged/deleted from the game. This lottery has the potential to erase billions of gold from the game each week. HOW IT WORKS Ticket price - 50k Tickets sold : 250,000 Ticket revenue : 12,500,000,000 (12.5 billion) Prize pot : 40-50% (6 billion) Deletion : (6.5 billion) Max Tickets : 30 per player The lottery will be available to both F2P and P2P players. The lottery ticket is bought from a new NPC based in Varrock (easy to access for everyone) PRIZE FUND Prize Breakdown 6 numbers : (33%) - 2 billion (may have more than one winner) 5 numbers : (33%) - 2 billion (likely 100+ winners) 4 numbers : (33%) - 2 billion (likely 1,000+ winners) Prize Breakdown - Alternative Creating a virtual lottery may prove to be a difficult coding challange for the Java based game engine. Should this be the case, Jagex could simply assign a "Ticket Number" ranging from 1 to Whatever, and make random selections from this range of numbers to define winners. 1st Number : Jackpot - 25% (1.5b in this example) 2-11 : 50% (5% each (300m in this example) 12-112 : 25% (0.25% each (15m in this example) ARGUEMENTS * Jagex would likely experiment, but they could increase/reduce ticket prices to encourage sales, or remove even more cash from the game. * Jagex could host more than one lottery per week to increase the money leaving the game * Jagex could reduce the prize fund PROS CONS SUPPORTERS
The Real ET
I love the idea, but tickets would tickets be tradable? I'd think not. Also, this may be hard to implement as it's gambling and even this kind of gambling can be addictive. Last I checked, Jagex was trying to make itself seem semi-educational and kid friendly in it's "About" sections. Gambling isn't viewed as kid friendly to most people. Overall, great idea though. Cowards can't block Warriors.

Although the prize might have to be lowered a bit because: Number 1 - You can't have more than 2.14 billion amounts of one item Number 2 - That would be alot of money for one person.. anim7
Thats awesome. But I think that the max amount of money awarded should be about 5mil. Probably only like .1% of the total money collected. Also, what is the cost of a ticket? I am thinking like around 1k per ticket. 100% F2P85 Mining achieved on Dec 4, 200785 Smithing achieved on May 28, 2009
RpgGamer
i like the idea, but i have a feeling if the wrong glitch happened at the wrong time, it will be jagex that will be risking their money, not the players Quote Quote Anyone who likes tacos is incapable of logic. MPM
I disagree that the economy is out of control. Prices on materials are very stable, and rarely change. Only rares fluctuate wildly, and this is due to the many new players entering the game. I would like it if you were to read Duke freedom's editorial on runehead. After you look at that graph, it shows the prices plotted over 4 years. Since the beginning of 2005, the prices have been almost completely level. Compare this to any of his rares graphs, and you can see that even though the prices of one thing are increasing, the economy is rather stable. ~M

I agree that the economy isn't out of control, but it was obvious with the release of construction that Jagex wanted to take money out of the economy. Not sure how they stand on it now, but this would be a great way to get money out of the economy. I know I'd probably put about a million into this just for fun (and I'm not one to waste money on something that doesn't help me function-wise). Cowards can't block Warriors. meol
I'd half the ticket cost, make the tickets untradeable (too much possible scamming going around), and make the price much much lower, around 20m at the most, not 1500m. Harrington
first read this list before posting a topic because on this list it says what not to suggest or already suggested! 1. This is TipIt forums, not Jagex official runescape forums where that rule applies. 2. You are not a moderator. And thanks to everyone else's encouraging comments. I spent some time on the idea and putting the graphics together. :)
assassin_696
We kindly ask that you do not post topics suggesting ideas on that list in the guide at the top, they would just clutter up this board irrelevantly. Sorry, but since this idea is on the list, i'm going to lock this. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
