September 7, 200718 yr I cannot tell you for sure, but I'm under the impression that gem tips help at least a little bit in terms of damage. Of course, with bolts, one of the biggest benefits is the special effects of the bolts, and those only occur if you have the tips. September 7, 200718 yr Tipped bolts do not hit any different than the same bolts with no tips, you just have a chance for the special to hit if the bolt is tipped and enchanted. Back when there used to be only one type of bolt, you could put barbs on them and make them hit harder.
