Training smithing in free worlds?

Recommended Posts

Well, i'm about to attempt a quest ( the knights sword ) which would get my smithing level to 30, I am interested in perhaps raising this skill up a fair bit, but am not too sure how to do it effectively.

So all help is appreciated, and cash wont be a problem as I can sell my green mask, however i'm looking for a way to atleast break even, prefferably make money.

Thanks alot in advance, will be back to check replies later!

Well go world 1 fally and buy coal 200 each and iron 100 ea

in 2:1 ratio

then smelt them into steel and sell for 600 ea

a 100 gp profit per bar

That would depend on how much you run, but I would say around only 6k xp an hour =/...thats saying that you do 1 inventory of steel per 1.5 min.

Try figuring out how long it takes for you to run to the bank, smelt the ores and then run back. Divide 60 by that time, and then multiply by 157.5 xp to get ur xp per hour.

Steel smelting is the most cost efficient way...but definitely one of the slower ways.

If you can mine mithril, and once you can smelt it, make mith items and then alch them. You get bare minimum profit if you do some items (taking into account cost of nature runes), but thats what i did for smithing xp on f2p (Got to 63 smithing on f2p).

Hopes that helps

ok i'll consider it, thanks. Thinking of just training mining to 30 on pure ess ( to also get a start on runecrafting ) and then just mining my own iron and steel, so I can turn it into bars then smith it into items.

This would be minimum profit and slower, but oh well i'd enjoy it more.

I'm more enjoying right now just doing a skill that takes my fancy rather than one skill to a certain level, ect..

Well, i'm about to attempt a quest ( the knights sword ) which would get my smithing level to 30,

Good method

I am interested in perhaps raising this skill up a fair bit,

In F2P, smithing is one of the 4 hardest skills to raise.

If you spent tens of millions of gp,

then you could make the 4th or 5th best armor in the game.

but am not too sure how to do it effectively.

Get members and do Iron with a Ruby ring.

Otherwise, do steel.

I can sell my green mask,

Don't

however i'm looking for a way to atleast break even, prefferably make money.

You can make money by buying ores and selling the smelted bars

but your exp per steel bar is only 17.5 so your exp will go very slowly.

Jagex designed the smithing skill to be very hard to raise because

the payoff at level 99 was to be able to make the very best,

at that time, armor in the game.

Nowadays, rune armor is 4th or 5th best and there are a lot of smiths that can

make full rune so prices are a lot lower than they were several years ago.

If you want money, sell ores or yew logs.

Hope this helps

yea smithing no longer earns you as much money as you could in the past...mining rune would be better ill say. and i read from the tip.it smithing guide that smithing iron platebody is more worth it than steel platebody. iron gives you more exp per ore...although for non members you will have to use superheat in order to ensure all the iron ores are converted to iron bars since there is no ring of smelting for f2p.

maxed out melee on 10/10/08, current goal: 94/99 cooking

life may be unfair, but why can't it be unfair in my favor?

Okay thanks, perhaps i'll get into mining infact. Really enjoy it! Also, as a non-member, I seem to find it more enjoyable as the spots are busy, competition yet seems to make it more enjoyable than just standing around by yourself.

I'd be banking the ores though as I enjoy that more!

I guess I could go for 85 and along the way mine coal on a 2:1 ratio with iron so to actually be able to make a fair number of steel bars by the time I get 85 mining.

ANybody got any tips for this which I am most likely going to do?

Oh and i'm 21 combat, 21 hitpoints, 13 prayer and 30 ranged. I am planning on raising all skills not constant mining. :)

I'd suggest mining 10K coal them going to mine 5K iron ore.

Once your 85 and got a balanced amount of coal+iron go and make those bars.

Or you can do 2k to 1k ratio like i did in f2p

You could try mining 1k coal, buying 1k coal, and 1k iron, make 1k steel bars. Sell 500 to break even, then smith the remaining 500 bars into items.(coal 200ea)(iron 100ea) (steel bars 650ea)

...I guess I could go for 85 and along the way mine coal on a 2:1 ratio with iron so to actually be able to make a fair number of steel bars by the time I get 85 mining.

Well, if you mined iron and coal in a 1:2 ratio then you would need over

860 trips to the bank while fully loaded with ore to reach 85.

That's gonna take a long time.

A "faster" way to raise mining and smithing is to power mine iron (in Al-kharid) until you reach 85.

Then, since you can now mine runite ore, mine 40 full loads of runite ore.

Selling that ore will earn you enough money to "buy back" all of the Iron

and coal that you "dropped" when you power mined to 85.

You can then smith all of that "steel" ore to reach smithing level 76

Or, mine "only" 620 full loads of runite ore and use the money to buy

steel bars. Smithing those will get you to 99.

Or, better yet, get members and mine gold.

Then smelt the ore with the goldsmithing gauntlets.

Training in members is better than F2P in so many ways.

Hope this helps
