A Guide... To making guides! Good ones!

Recommended Posts

I shall start this guide as I always do...

Hello all! If you are reading this guide, chances are you want to learn how to make... a guide! The truth really is, anyone can create their own guide. However, it takes some special knowledge to craft an interesting, exciting and useful guide. Not only do you need to know everything about your topic, but you also need to know how to format it. That is why you are here.

Topics: Being original, or being bold?

Every guide starts with a topic, and every topic starts with an idea. If you don't know what your new guide is going to cover, then I recommend that you start brainstorming. There are many keys factors that go into choosing a topic. Really, you can write about anything you want and that is always great, but the top guides are unique and useful to the reader. Think of something that hasn't been done before, but many people seek knowledge on. Sorry, but I wont be giving you any free ideas. Creating a guide with a topic that has been touched upon before can be harder to make, and if you choose a topic like this, then you must try and keep it original. Here are some tips:

1.) Look over other guides on the same topic. If you know alot about the topic then you will

catch the information that they missed. Include that in your own guide.

2.) Do NOT copy over from another guide. This is called plagiarism and it is considered a

felony. Take all the information you need from your prior knowledge and read official guides

for extra information you may need. Remember that whatever you use, it must be in your

own words.

3.) To make your guide as unique as possible, add as many tips as you can think of, or that people give you

permission to add. Going through personaly preferred steps and methods which you use for the topic also makes a big difference. (A guide to the barrows doesn't have to

be ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹Ãâa̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ guide to the barrows. Make it ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹Ãâyour̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ guide to the barrows instead.)

Now, lets move on.

Content: Friendly and concise.

So what are you going to include in your guide? A good answer would be everything. Everything relative that is. The most important items are here as followed, but are by no means limited to:

- Locations

- Quest requirements

- Skill requirements

- Items needed

- Dangers/risks

If you know what to write, then good. But always check back to see what info you missed. You want to be very concise with your descriptions, and pay very close attention to detail. You don't want the reader having to find things on their own, do you?

Along with being concise is being friendly. You want to keep everything you write fairly casual, as I do. :P

Don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t write with a boring, ridged tone. You don't want your readers to get bored, so try not to be too formal. Remember that you should be writing in a quiet, peaceful environment. According to certain forms of behavioral psychology, your environment has an affect on your behavior and mood. With that in mind, if you are in a comforting place, your writing should reflect that.

So... is it interesting?

You may think at this point that plain writing is interesting, and depending on the true content of it, it can be. But you want, no, you need to spice things up a bit. And what better way to do so than using pictures. As the old saying goes ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬Åa picture is worth a thousand words.̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

what you do is you look along the top near where it says "message body"

look to the right, there is a button called "hide"

[hide]and you can hides stuff![/hide]

maybe i should add something...

when you click "hide", type whatever it is you want to hide, then click hide again.

[hide=click here] also!! when it comes up as hide, you can put hide=click text in the bar parenthesis thingys :P then just click hide again :XD: [/hide]

hope that helps.
