Different Races with out penalties. An RPGer Dream

I think it would be cool if runescape added the option to pick a different race like elf, orger, dwarf, cat like monster, ect... to play with instead of just humans, but with out any bounses or penalties for doing so. It would add verity to the game and it be instresting to see finaly done in an MMORPG.

finally done? most games do have different races

Yeah, the way rs's system is (raise any skill you want) they couldn't change it at this point, so if they did add diff races, no penalities would have to be present.

I would love to see races in maybe RS3, they would then have to bring back the class system, which would be better. No more whipping out magic long when someone your fighting starts to run...

I was saying that races with out having race penalities or enhancements would be finally done. I want to see a game just have a race thats just for looks instead of making a suber mage becaue you are an elf or a taurtaur :)

That would be cool. Or even different skin colors. I've always wanted to walk around RS with green skin :P I'd love to be a gnome, so short. Muwahahaha. That would be extremely cool.

Runescape would change BIG BIG BIG time if we had races with positive and negative bonuses. Think about selling stuff, making it, fighting. It makes my head hurt how much there. Then people would have to make another character to be a race. Then they would probably just restart and make a RS3.. and then put the houses in it lol. This is a good post.

*Edit* I'm going to start craze on thinking about RS3. *Edit*

yes, races would be cool without bonuses or changes to stats. this would be just like having different color robes. it looks awesome, but it does absolutely nothing different. just a way to be an special. 3 thumbs up for idea

Well if they did implement it, they could make it so you could change without having to start over, like the ability to change clothes, hair, and body style :) Wouldn't be too hard to I don't think.

This all happened because when I was intrested in D&D stuff when "Never Winter Nights" fist came out I thought it would be cool to have a tiny little fairy with a huge borad sword that could cast magic. Think how cute and deadly you'd be. Power in a priss lol!

Ooh, that's a great idea. Of course, the problem is having to make whole sets of animations for each race. I wanna be a fairly, think Chaeldar (the slayer master) in dragon armor and wielding a dragon battleaxe

Of course, they would have to limit the choice of races to more or less humanoid races...

Yes. This can be implimented. New animations would be awesome but not necessary if Jagex took an easy route.

Let me use elves (real elves, like D&D or Tolkein's elves) as an example to show how easy (for a decent programmer/graphic artist) it would be to take the current model and turn it into an elf. One, put ears on the head, without changing anything else. Two, stretch the height of the model by 10% (so the model is now 110% the height of the model now known as "human") and compress the width of it by 10% also. We now have a taller, leaner model with pointy ears (the ears would be most noticable in speech windows with NPCs).

Please excuse the poor quality, this is just a cheap Photoshopping of my character with no equipment.

The same could be done with making dwarven characters (60-70% height, 110-120% width) or whatever your heart desires. Additions like tails or other ears can just be "pasted" on the normal model (tails would appear even when armour is equipped, ears would not) and voila!

This, however, is just my little idea of how adding "races" could work, don't take this as the only way it could come to pass.

OK first off FFXI isn't the only game to use a cat like creature that looks exactly like it. D&D started the mixing of races, other people change the name to suit them and they way they talk ect... So runescape could make a character module exactly like a mitra and not get sued becasue its public domain.

Not only that elves in D&D are a tad shoter than humans a foot shoter on avg. Dawves are about miget size no more than 4.3 feet. Orges/Orcs would be the talest about 6.5 feet on avg. Gomes would be the shortest about 3.5 on avg.

That being said. Hurza for replies.

Cat-like humanoids are often known as 'Nekos' for the females and 'Konekos' for the males (not sure if that's the plural, or even whether i've spelt them right) These names originated in Japan and Nekos and Konekos are often used in Anime, and, no, mustn't say the word....alright, Hentai (THERE! I said it....Jeez)

That would be cool but what would happen if people wanted to change, it's a good idea but allot of people will be complaining

Partially to bump and to answer the last question. They have a soul transfer mage just like the make over-mage that would allow you to change races. That way no one would complain and everyone wouldn't have to start over to pick another race. It wouldn't be cheep, soul transferring is great task and hard to do. Most likely 10k per transfer and every time you do it..

Well, of course the make-over mage would be able to do a soul transfer. You can change all other orignal appearances in RS (except shoe style). And Humanoid creatures would probably be best since you can implement armor and stuff like that. It'd be quite strange to see a hellhound in rune armor? Don't get me wrong, it probably could be done, but come on.
