I was wondering whether there was some kind of free essay grading site where I could improve my essays and possibly APUSH DBQs.

 

 

 

I tried to find it on google but it just gave me tips on how to write essays whereas I want actual feedback.

 

 

 

When I try to grade my own essays, I have a biased view. Meaning I know my essays suck but don't know how to improve them, that is why I require feedback.

 

 

 

So if anyone knows of such sites or services, can you please post for not only my benefit but for others who may need help on essays.

Maybe I'm being naive here, but isn't providing that kind of feedback one of the many things your teachers are paid to do?

 

 

 

Around here everyone provided such feedback on request, and the best teachers went out of their way to provide it without us asking for it.

Best thing to do would be to write an essay and then give it to your teacher to have a look through since I would imagine that, should you be able to find a feedback site, they would charge you for it.

Something that helped me a lot improving my essays (at least the style):

 

Get a good one, one that you are 100% is a good one, even if you don't know why (ask the best one in your class or get the editorials from a good newspaper, they're often quite good as well). Check the structure of it, when and how do they change ideas, how they back-up them, and so on. Write it down, and then try to write an essay on a different topic based on that structure.

 

Also, before beginning to write the essay, try to make a basic outline of it. What arguments are you going to use, in which order, etc.

When doing proper essays, you have a certain amount of drafts to complete them. If you don't use those drafts properly then too bad .

 

 

 

If you don't have drafts, just note the feedback from previous essays and try to not make them again.

Doesn't your school have a tutoring program of any kind? It's not just there to help you with math homework, it's a good place to get an opinion on a paper too (for cheap/free).

if its not a paper for your english class, ask your english teacher. but don't ask too many times (unless its like a college essay...)

I have heard from my friends all they do in peer tutoring is goof off and get "credit" for nothing, but I'll try it out. There is probably at least ONE person who actually cares about what they're doing.

My language teacher this year is teaching us how to score our essays, so that we'll be able to see what constitutes a good paper, and how to "score" our own.

I was also under the impression that grading essays and feedback were what your teachers were there for. :P
