Terri Schiavo dies, Pope suffers heart failure...

Whats with this day?! :x

Cradled by her husband, Schiavo, 41, died a "calm, peaceful and gentle death" at about 9 a.m., a stuffed animal under her arm, flowers arranged around her hospice room, said George Felos, Michael Schiavo's attorney.

No one from her side of the family was with her at the moment of her death. Her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, were not at the hospice, Felos said. And her brother had been barred from the room at Michael Schiavo's request moments before the end came.

Pope Has Suffered Heart Failure

VATICAN CITY - The Vatican said Friday that Pope John Paul II's condition was very serious, hours after he suffered heart failure.

Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls said in a statement that on Thursday afternoon the pope's heart stopped momentarily during treatment for a urinary tract infection.

"This morning the condition of the Holy Father is very serious," the statement said.

However, it said that the pope had participated in a 6 a.m. mass Friday and that "the Holy Father is conscious, lucid, and serene."

I wish him well.

No jokes here folks...

The Schiavo thing, she was just another person, just like the thousands of others who died today. This case does not deserve any more pity from us than any other of the deaths do.

The Pope, I can't really say anything about that. He's almost 85 years old, his body is just doing natural things. Nature is taking his course, it's sad, but as I said so are the thousands of other deaths that happen each day.

well it depends on whats gonna happen now...

will her death affect current US laws?

will her case set precedents for future similar cases?

and how will people react when they see this in their morning paper?

well as for the pope, last time I checked, he was the leader of the largest religion in the world...

Surely there's more Hindus and other eastern religions that there is Catholics.

I have no idea what the numbers are, but surely that's extremely hard to know. I'm listed as a Christian I believe, but I'm still an atheist. I'm sure the same applies to millions others.

Well I'm sure I read the numbers somewhere, but the reason I thought there would be more Hindus and whatnot was just because of the high population of the countries, and the fact that religion seems to be alot more forced there.

EDIT: After checking a website, apparantly Christianity is the largest religion - is Catholicism grouped under Christianity?

I'm not even a religious man but my heart goes out to the Pope's health.

He's been such a good man all these years, lived through a hell of a lot as well, alas, this could be the end beautiful friend.

I still remember his trip to liverpool when I was a little baba, got pictures of him in that chariot thingie...

What a terrible thing that the pope (by definition) has to be catholic. Not that I have anything against catholics, but when it's his time to die, (Ie. soon, by all accounts) he should be able to go with a little bit of dignity. Keeping him alive (and in the medias' eye) will be a monsterous thing to do.

I don't know enough about that woman to comment, but what I saw on the news was hilarious: these priests standing outside the place with bibles clutched to their hearts and expressions of rapture on their faces, hands outstretched. I hope that ll the people at that protest were also at ALL anti war protests and ALL anti death row protests: one life v all the lives lost by the two other things... Also, I noticed that Mr. Bush (in his last speech on the matter) didn't actually say anything; he just fobbed everyone off by saying that all americans should be cared for, or something... a wise move, by my estimation.

YEs catholicism will be grouped under Christianity. The Pope is only the spiritual leader of Catholics but not Protestants.

I'm not sure how many Christians are catholic/protestant though. :?

When I was 23 I wrote a 'life testament' proclaim my wishes for just something like what happened to mrs. Schiavo. No way I wish to live the rest of my life as a 'vegetable' with only a few tubes to keep me alive... :?

And I dont want my beloved ones to have to make such a decission either. This can not have been an easy decission for neither of them

-"we tried, we cried and we died!" - Limparse (What happens to old farts and tarts on monster-hunts)

There are over 1 and a half billion Christians.

About 1 billion don't follow a Religion.

The other 3 and a half billion is split between the other religions.

Im apparently agnostic, but that doesn't mean that I am a pure atheist...

I still care. The pope is the only pope I knew. And as far as im concerned, hes a nice guy. I wish him well, where ever he is going.

no christianity is the largest, Last time I checked I saw 2 billion christians, over a billion muslims (not sure the accual number but I think it was about 1.5 billion muslims)

I think people are getting confused because of this: whilst most religious people in the world aren't Christian, Christianity has the most followers of any given religion. At least, I think that's what it is.

Im apparently agnostic, but that doesn't mean that I am a pure atheist...
Err...wth? Agnosticism =/= Atheism.

Umm....There is already a thread about this. MODS LOCK THIS!!!!!

An agnostic is a person who doesn't believe in god but still believes in a higher power whereas an atheist doesn't believe in any kind of spirituallity whatsoever.

As for the Pope and his imminent death I could not care less.
