Is runescape really getting bigger?

It depends how you define 'bigger'?

Bigger population, yes definitely when i was here last there were nearly 20 - 30 less worlds and they were all MUCH less full then when i played.

Bigger explorable map well yes as there are many more activities, land/sea masses. The Members quests have definitely expanded i can't say the same for F2p though lol.

Bigger in gameplay - well this is where opinions come into play. But when you take into account all the skills + combat levels. The co-operative or PVP aspect of the game is VERY shallow, its very dependent on how many times Player A has clicked variables A - Z as opposed to Player B. In essence its just about how much you click and what you click. Other games require more thought and mathematical precision. This is lacking in Runescape, when i play other games i find this is the most shallow aspect of runescape. That too the PVE and PVP play does not have a wide community, hardcore gamers play WoW or GW mainly because of the mathematics, more thinking, timing, superior graphical combat and rewards from the gameplay. It is definitely graphically more pleasing to play a game like WoW or GW. However the disadvantage is that these require a client and cannot be played directly through a browser which is the convenience runescape offers. Before anyone flames me i do not play WoW for the record but glancing at graphics it is undoubtedly superior and therefore attracts a wealthier variety of gamers.

Yes the community is getting bigger population wise but many would argue that it isn't necessarily getting better.

Indeed. Many of the newer generation of RS players are clueless and immature, and often beg for Jagex to "dumb down" the game, resulting in updates like the 1 minute rule.

I believe RS will hit its peak some time early next year. Because of the limitations of the combat system (99 HP and nothing that actually reduces the amount of potential damage incurred) Jagex has backed themselves into a corner. If one can wield something as powerful as the Godsword at 75 attack, what is there at 80 or 85 attack? It'd be asinine to create something stronger than the Godsword, so that really leaves nowhere to expand. Also, combined with the undefeatable macro problem, Jagex just can't save this game. I give it another two or three years before Jagex starts losing more people than they gain.

What's this talk of 99hp limitations and stuff have to do with anything? Member growth has to do with how many people load up and play rs for the time, and of those who do, who jagex retains. Sure there's a .001% of rs who leaves because they've reached 99hp and there's nothing left to do, but that's nothing compared to the real growth factors that happen on f2p.

yeah, it is growing, but not as fast as it was a year or so ago. You also have to consider the amount of characters that have quit, or banned (bots) so i guess maybe it is growing, but hardly at the pace that can be seen

99 Fletching 99 Attack 99 Constitution 99 Cooking 99 Strength

True people create more then 1 acc but as the first poster said, friends tell friends.(if your from the same part of NJ as me), EX: I went to Willowbrook and sat in the food court with my friends and all I heard was this one guy tell another guy about RS and the other guy said cool he'll try it out then the first guy leaves and 3 other people come and the second guy tells the three and they say they'd try it, as I said friends tell friends.

Where I come from, if I try to tell pretty much anybody about it, all I get is the internet equivalent of "Teh z0mg, you play online fantasy game? you n3rd!!!!"

It does seem to me that growth in terms of the number of players online has been increasing slowly. I don't play during peak times but during off-peak the number of people playing seems to be slightly higher now than a half a year ago. Some servers can be really empty so growth is not really "explosive" or greatly increased.
