The hilt makes it a sword. No you can't use a Godsword without a hilt. I suggest you save up the 40m for a bandos hilt, or get over the fact of using a godsword. Stop being cheap and either save or forget it. Sorry for being blunt/harsh, but its the truth. You cannot have a godsword for less than the selling price, unless you (a)Get it as a drop (either by lucking out on a pk or w/e) (b)Get a deal on a hilt [doubtful] or ©have a very rich very nice friend to buy one for you. I'm not planning on getting one, I'm not a rs freak, I don't make goals like "99 firemaking tomorrow, then I'll get 99 this that, 200m cook exp, and then I'll try to get full dragon" I don't make goals on and on 3. FOR THE LAST TIME, YES!!!!! The hilt dictates the special AND if you can wield it!!!! If you didn't need a hilt, people could have a half completed, wieldable god sword with no spec for only 9-12mil.... 2. I didn't say that.... 3. THere are 3 shards, and once again, I didn't say anything to the contrary...

October 25, 200718 yr Simple picture of how a sword layout is supposed to be. So without a hilt, you would be holding the hard metal tang which is hard to hit with so yes, you do need a hilt.
