November 20, 200718 yr 8 days ago I began a blog (that can be found by clicking my signature). I had studied up on the market after almost 2 years of not merchanting (again, all my past merchanting information can be read in my blog that I suggest you skim :-w ) and I was ready to try and get back into the game as best I could. The goal at first was to merchant my way up to obtaining a rare item. It soon changed to any WEARABLE rare item. The cheapest of these is the green halloween mask. Here are the results. Starting Bank -- November 11th, 2007: November 19th, 2007: Current Bank -- November 21st, 2007: The Future: Runescape still hasn't sparked any interest in me again (well... yet). I can't get into it and fully enjoy merchanting, or even playing in general, like I used to be able to (again.. explained in my blog :anxious: ). I've been merchanting pretty hardcore ALL f2p and world 1 Varrock makes me sick already :-X . My long term goal was to get myself a Santa Hat before Christmas. This could very easily be done. However, I've already grown annoyed and bored with merchanting. If I did try and obtain a Santa Hat then I would do it gradually over a couple of days for the last few million I need (instead of sitting at world 1 varrock for hours on end). That's pretty much it :-k . Constructive critisim is appreciated. I'm not a pro at this like I used to be (again... blog :-w ) so advice is welcomed. Rate it or hate it. November 20, 200718 yr first post! nice mask! I had the same goal as you and achieved that a month ago. Once you merchant masks, and santas, the money kind of just flows in steadily. My first green mask, I sold for 23.5mil! I was selling for 20.5, but the guy offered 3m extra. I was so happy. keep it up though. 100% F2P85 Mining achieved on Dec 4, 200785 Smithing achieved on May 28, 2009
November 20, 200718 yr Author Thanks. I'd really love to merchant enough for a party hat, but I refuse to do that because of the time I would have to put in. I suppose the cheaper rare merchanting market is what I'll be stuck on for a little while (masks & santas) and gain some cash slowly. Thanks though :) . November 20, 200718 yr Author Nice job, what'd you merchant? 18.3/18.3 Lol @ your rates. Started out with yews and "cheap items" like that. I found some really lucky deals too (on 1 yew log haul I ended up with a PROFIT of about 130k  ). But yeah. Stuff like that till I got about 1.5m. Started on god sets @ world 1. After a few days I had enough for stuff like pumpkins and EEggs. Did some of those along with god armor. Nothing very difficult. If you have the money, pay attention, be patient, and on occasion get REALLY lucky, then merchanting ain't nothin but a g-thaaaang.... #-o . November 20, 200718 yr Author wow you completely totaled your bank :XD: . grats on your rare. Thanks. I think :-k . I'm thinking about got for Santa Hat or Blue Mask since Thanksgiving break starts tomorrow and I only have 2 classes today (I'm in college btw). But I'm not sure. As I said, merchanting has gotten pretty boring already and I'm not obsessed with RS like I was years ago so I doubt I even find myself playing that much over the course of the next 5 day break. Oh well. Keep the ratings up people I like getting feedback O:) . November 21, 200718 yr Author sorry to double post, but I thought I would let everyone know that I am now 3,000,000 gp richer after 2 days. Merchanting is going good... until now. Since about 9:30 am this morning (it's now 5:15 pm), green masks have apparently fallen pretty hard. This morning I re-bought my green mask for 18.3m which at the time was just below the average selling price. A few minutes ago I hopped on and green masks are selling for 17.6m - 18m :wall: . Santas have also dropped from what I can tell and are going for as low as 21.7m :-k . Anyways. Added an inventory picture instead of bank. Hope nobody cares too bad. Hopefully, green masks will creep back up so I can resale it and santas stay cheaper so I can grab me one of those while they're dipped a few million  . Then again, this is all based off world 1 Varrock :-s . November 21, 200718 yr Yeah, the duel arena update affected all rare prices :? Very nice merchanting for f2p though :D 9/10
November 22, 200718 yr Awesome merchanting skills! Wish I could merch like that! =P~ 18.3/18.3 Yes I did read your blog  Amazing Avatar by Lit0ua
November 22, 200718 yr Nice, I may have to start merchanting if I want to make any more $, seeings how staking is down the drain. In one day of staking I turned 300k into 21M, but now the most I can get is what... like 24K in 2 hours? :x I might just quit and leave my santa in the bank and buy another rare with rest of my cash :( [Admin Edit: Attempting to publicly humiliate a user in your signature is inappropriate] Quit Runescape... Dec 2001 - Jan 2008 on and off... mostly off.
November 22, 200718 yr Author Yeah, the duel arena update affected all rare prices :? Very nice merchanting for f2p though :D 9/10 I read up on the update. Still confused at how it messed with the prices :-k , but oh well. I'm really thinking about just keeping the green mask and setting it in my bank account. Who knows. In another year it could be worth 100m . Not sure yet. I'll keep an eye out on rare prices throughout the rest of this month and Christmas (what with the Grand Exchange being introduced soon and all). Thanks guys! Oh, and the guy that said he read my blog... . November 23, 200718 yr Preupdate santa prices: 23.8 After update: prices went to 18.7 within a day. Then prices started going back up to 22m. then they are down to 21.8m again... now, they are around 20-20.5m very unstable. staking is a very important part of p2p. members stake eerything from gp to phats. Suddenly jagex decided to put a tentative market price on rares and put a 3k gp cap on staked amount. Players could no longer get rich quick unless they entered tournaments. 100% F2P85 Mining achieved on Dec 4, 200785 Smithing achieved on May 28, 2009
November 23, 200718 yr Author But staking doesn't introduce any new items or gold peices into the economy. It is just a way to move that gold throughout the economy (from player to player). That's what I don't understand. Yes, rares were important in staking and all that stuff, but just because you can't stake lots of gold/rares shouldn't effect prices :-k . I dont know. Personally, I think it's just the entire Runescape community freaking out and within the next few weeks things should be back to normal. At least I hope. November 24, 200718 yr 7/10 Very nice amount of cash, espeically for a f2per however I don't like how you take pride in having the cheapest wearable rare. I hope you reach higher and eventually get a better mask though : But staking doesn't introduce any new items or gold peices into the economy. Personally, I think it's just the entire Runescape community freaking out and within the next few weeks things should be back to normal. At least I hope. I can explain that. Contrary to popular belief, massive changes in prices does not have to come from inflation. In this case, it comes from income elasticity of demand. This means that, for a change in income, there will be a change in demand for a good. And since there is a change in demand, there will therefore be a change in price. To understand how this affects rares you need to understand what rares are in the economy. They are "luxury goods" or "goods of conspicuous consumption" and this implies that, if our income increase by 50%, our consumption of what we consider a luxury good increases by more than 50% (which makes sense, if your income increases, you tend to buy more of the fancy stuff). This does mean that we each have our own "luxury goods" however, for a lot of people, rares are luxury goods. Conversely, if our income falls, our demand for these goods falls by even more. This is exactly what happened here. As the income of stakers heavily fell, their demand for phats and other rares fell as well. And decrease in demand means decrease in price. 76th to reach 99 Construction on 6th of February 2007379th to reach 99 Runecrafting on 4th of November 2007 Finally the secrets of goal achieving are revealed! November 25, 200718 yr Author Thank you everyone. Rares have yet to rise again  , so I have been online about 5 minutes total the past few days #-o . I had forgotten about GE being released here soon, so that might dent the rares market even more. What a bad time to start back into merchanting .
