do you really know...?

one of the many things floating around runescape fansites these days is that the grand exchange is going to ruin merchanting. everyone that cares about it has already prepared for the worst, selling off their goods cheaply, or have went to rants boards around the community and complained about it here.

but, do you know for sure?

most runescapers speculate about the update and form their conclusions based off of the small description given, highs and lows are quite extreme. in the grand exchange's case, there is nothing but negatives, some going as far as the removal of trading being a guarantee.

this is what we were given.

Later in the month, we bring you the 'Grand Exchange'.This new building will be located in the north-west of Varrock and will house a huge new addition to the game: the ability to offer items to buy and sell across ALL servers and to ALL players! You might, for example, go to the Exchange and put a full Barrows set up for sale - then, playing Skullball in Canifis, you might get a message telling you that they have sold and that you can go to the nearest bank to receive payment! The Grand Exchange will allow you to spend more time on the things you enjoy, providing a less time-consuming alternative to selling your items on the Forums or amongst the crowds of Varrock Marketplace.

this is what players act like they have recieved

later in the month, we will be screwing you over in every way possible. with the removal of staking, we will kill off your precious merchanting by having you able to only trade for the prices we set across any server. you will do this in a building that was formerly varrock west bank. as if to add to that, our prices will be so far off the player-bases that you will be unable to profit, even if you got the item for free. anyone who rants about it will be stuck in a monkey cage filled to the brim with wannabe mods. after that, you will be forced to play skullball until your eyes bleed.

have a delightful november, 'scapers!

the behind the scenes article was just vague enough for rumors to be able to spread, and now people act as if they know every bit of the mechanics of the new update.

[hide=SUMMARY]

the rant's basically about how the community as a whole can take the small amount of information and twist it into an absolute conclusion, before they know what it really is.

in short, what i am trying to say is:

Wait and and see how it turns out, before jumping to conclusions[/hide]

and with that, happy flaming me-- i mean scaping!

be gentle, first rant i've written directed at tipiters

I totally agree, speculation is alright sometimes but it really annoys me that the General forum is swamped with GE and Summoning threads. ONE discussion thread would be acceptable, I hate it when people try to see what is coming before it is even there, it is even worse when they complain.

THANK YOU.

I hate people jumping to conclusions! Especially ones concerning Jagex's "horrific anti-scaper motives" - they're here to HELP, not to HINDER. They're doing their best, giving us updates that they think we'll like. (Maybe with the exception of the 3k staking cap, but their reasons are justified, they just want to stop real-world item trading, even if a maximum of 12k an hour is a bit silly.)

It's all very well speculating but you'll be wrong most of the time. I walked past some idiots the other day telling each other how they're gonna get to 99 summoning - WTF!

It's better to not speculate and be pleasantly surprised than to over-exaggerate and expect too much just to be disappointed.

I'm personally looking forward to the Grand Exchange. I hate standing in a busy world that I've spent half hour trying to enter, just to spend another half hour typing the same thing over and over again, only to get an offer of 2k iron ore, a rune longsword and 15k when you specifically said cash only.

Also, remember this:

YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE THE EXCHANGE WHEN YOU WANT TO BUY OR SELL ANYTHING.

That's annoying me, people are acting as if it's the end of trading. It isn't. Even if it was, live with it. Life goes on, it's just a game! (Albeit a very good one :) )

Yeah, I completely agree, I mean would Jagex really release an update as bad as they're making it out to be. I seriously doubt it. And even if it is horrible, at least wait until you know it is before you complain about it. At this rate even if the Grand Exchange is amazing, people will already have such a low opion of it due to all the speculation that they will only focus on the negatives.

people have ranted about things such as that before, so the grand exchange isn't unique to this.

i believe in the official forums, there was a 'nerf the godsword' thread before there was enough time for a single completed blade to be in existance, let alone the whole sword

haven't seen that on tipit, but i tend to stay off the stickies

I like the idea of GE, but if it doesn't turn out how I imagined it, it will be another useless update. (surprise surprise)..

Come to my Clan chat (I'm there if I'm online) if you wish to borrow a Green H'ween mask, Blue H'ween Mask, Red H'ween Mask, or Santa for a reasonable price.

I think that people will be quite wrong.

If so many people sell their items now, prices will go down NOW. When everybody plans to buy them back right when the GE is released then the prices will go waay up, because everybody is buying. And when people see prices going up they want to buy their items back before the prices go up any more, creating an even bigger demand and even higher prices.

When I first thought, you can type in whatever amount you want (overpricing is quite domaint in other games)But now with the preset marketprice, then its another story.

Seriously.

The predictions made by Runescape's community these days about future updates are usually always correct. The Grand Exchange ruining merchanting has been no exception. And no, I haven't waited for the evidence. But I know that if I want to buy something at it's cheapest price I'll go there, not to world 1 or 2. I'll get stuff there at the desperate-seller price. And so yes, merchanting has been ruined.

I won't be surprised if Jagex begins to suffer a sharp decline in member subscriptions from now on.

so you're saying this as someone who hasn't tried the GE?

you should actually try it before saying such a thing, it may just prove you wrong
