bravsein
Hello! I created a little tool, which, after entering the number of a rs world, creates a .html file with the contents just as in Bradley_006's thread (http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=598884) and then runs firefox that opens the html file... Is this against the rules / can I get banned for this? I mean; It's not software at all - my program doesn't have to do anything with runescape here - after the .html file is created, firefox does the rest - so what do you think? Best regards, bravsein
Master_the_Great
I believe you CAN get banned for this, as this is a third party software and it gives an unfair advantage.
Smapla
It's actually first party \
icecube
It's not against the rules though it should be imo, since it provides an unfair advantage over other players.
Jordanweb
It is in violation of rule 7, but Jagex can't detect it so use it as you will.
bravsein
I believe you CAN get banned for this, as this is a third party software and it gives an unfair advantage. Well - it's first party ( :D ) It just creates a html file and will never have to do anything with runescape.. But I'm still not sure :anxious:
Jordanweb
It just creates a html file and will never have to do anything with runescape.. Go read the runescape rules, you are using a html frame to bypass the normal navigation of the website so YES it is a violation. Btw it being 1st party means nothing, if somebody wrote a macro program does that mean that it is legal for them to use it themself? No.
icecube
Well it's not bannable. Hopefully in the future they'll change it.
bravsein
The thing is: The html file that comes out is pretty like the one in this guide: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=598884 And that guide was proven not rule-breaking :o
SirHartlar
It just creates a html file and will never have to do anything with runescape.. Btw it being 1st party means nothing, if somebody wrote a macro program does that mean that it is legal for them to use it themself? No. But it is first-party. You also must not use any RuneScape-specific third party software which encourages breaking of our rules, or bypasses the normal navigation of our website, or automatically requests pages from our website, or which endangers user accounts. Later in the rules it says: What do you mean by "software"? Software means any type of software, including: downloadable software (e.g an [Caution: Executable File] file), or web-based software (e.g a website set up to perform a similar function with flash, java, javascript or serverside scripts). In my opinion, it is legal.
mchainmail
Rule 7: You must not use other software to gain an unfair advantage in the game. This includes automation tools, macros, bots, or auto-typers. You may not circumvent any of our mechanisms designed to automatically log out inactive users. You also must not use any RuneScape-specific third party software which encourages breaking of our rules, or bypasses the normal navigation of our website, or automatically requests pages from our website, or which endangers user accounts. Since firefox is hardly runescape specific (since it's a web browser) it shouldn't be a problem. However, your best bet is to send a query to jagex about it. Jordanweb
And that guide was proven not rule-breaking :o That guide wasn't proven to not be rule breaking, creating desktop shortcuts was proved to not be rule breaking.
BlueLancer
This is definitely legal, because it's no different from just keeping a browser window open and later selecting+clicking another world to join directly. It's not a third-party application or cheat either, it performs the exact same function as clicking the server on runescape.com. Now that inbuilt server-switching is in the game, this would be useless for "fast-hopping" as well. This would be just like visiting forum.tip.it: Instead of writing that manually, you just click a link to get here. Nobody gets an unfair advantage, all you get is a few seconds of saved time. Edit: Jagex has also confirmed that a shortcut link is not rule-breaking, and it has been approved by tip.it staff as well. This is a Jagex reply from another thread which is also linked to in this post:
