Before becoming a member: preparations

Recommended Posts

Are there some things I can do now in order to get ready for becoming a member?

I was thinking about construction and if there were any raw materials I could start stockpiling before joining up to save me some time while working on the POH...like iron or steel nails for the stuff and what kind of wood is best and should I gather tiles (if that's even necessary) in the wilderness and gold or other metal for higher level furniture or rooms.

What about other stuff, like herblore and fletching and farming and hunter and agility? Is there anything a member wishes they had built a stockpile out of in order to get the most out of their membership time (I don't think I'll have more than two months of dues available...I've heard that going back to a F2P just means you need to make sure you have at least one thing in your bank to hold it's place otherwise you will lose that space).

If you want to cut a bunch of logs to use for fletching it would help, as for farming agility and hunter theres not a whole lot you can do to prep.

You dont really need a whole lot of nails because once you can use oak planks you dont need nails so if your going to make your own planks cut a lot of oaks.

Oak furniture is the best to build for how much it costs and the exp you gain.

Okay, so if I'm making a list it would be something like:

10k oak logs (or more?)

100 Eye of newt (for attack potion making in herblore?)

And what else? More help please?

The only thing you can really prep for is levelling your skills to be able to do important quests, etc...

Also, in terms of items, just get lots of logs.

OAK for construction.

WILLOWS for middle fletching levels (40-70 about).

Also, don't worry too much about secondary ingredients for herblore. Those will be very easy to acquire at grand exchange while you are member...

If i think of anything else, i'll try and get back to this thread. Good luck!

I really thought (hoped) this post would get a better response.

I'm looking for tips that people have thought "MAN, I wish I would have thought to do this before becoming a member" not just for me, but for everyone out there about to switch from F2P to P2P.

The few ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅOh ManÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ things for me would be:

Normal logs ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ I wish I had 3-400 of these stockpiled in my bank before going P2P. Cutting and fletching the first 20 or so levels of fletching got old quite quick for me, but once willows came round it was plain sailing.

Oak logs for construction ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ just stockpile what you can

On the whole though it was the other way around for me, i.e. Oh Man, why did I waste my time doing that in F2P when I could have done it in ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâü the time in P2P!

60 attack is nice, so is having a heap of emerald rings, and saphire necklaces prepared ready to enchant. (50 emeralds, and 20 saphires will see you through the first month of P2P.)

Questing will be your first priority though - to open up new areas and weapons. Laws will be gobbled up a lot faster in P2P, so either have a few hundred of them in your bank or enough cash to buy some (or run laws for a few hundred of them)

As for construction, don't bother getting thousands of nails. You'll only need a couple of hundred for the first few levels. Oak planks, however, should be your first source of experience. Get as many logs as you can/wish (up to 300k).

For fletching, you could go through the first levels making arrows (then saving them up to train Ranged). You could get around 250 normal logs and 3750 feathers.

At the very beginning of your membership, you should train some agility, as it helps moving around. Also, these are some of the most useful quests in members. Try doing them as soon as you get the necessary levels:

Tears of Guthix (weekly minigame that gives exp in your lowest skill)

The Grand Tree (Travel)

Tree Gnome Village (Travel)

An Enlightened Journey (Travel)

Plague City (to unlock the Ardougne Teleport)

Watchtower quest (to unlock the Yanille Teleport)

Priest in Peril (to unlock the area of Morytania)

Lost City (unlocks the first dragon weapons) and Nature Spirit (to do Fairy Tale P. 1)

Fairy Tale Part 1 and the beginning of Part 2 to access the fairy rings (you won't need the high farming, herblore or thieving levels)

It does not save much money to pre-gather materials, only few days/weeks, but if you want to do it still, advance your woodcutting to 50 (magoanies). Planks are also recommaded to collect if you want to save gp. But you don't have to collect tiles. Stockpile also a good amount of money, and food. When you begin your membership, gathering a good amount of antidotes would be a good first priority, so you don't have to carry food everywhere.

Long live the mighty runite warhammer, the only guardian defending f2p from overpower of tank pures!

A little something no one else has said. Get at least 49 Firemaking to light bullseye lanterns. You should also finish all the freeplay quests or better yet do all but Dragon Slayer. Being able to use higher level bolts comes in real handy. Stock up on anti-dragon fire shields using the drop-and-ask-for-new-then-pickup method. Water filled vials, and red spider eggs are also a good thing to stock up on.

An if you want some new member freebies contact me in game when you become one. I'll save you a bit of money just by having you raid my player home's tool stores. ;)

I'm thinking of putting some of these into a really simple guide and will certainly mention all your usernames if I do.

For those of you giving advice but not stating numbers, if you have a rough estimate of things like how many planks or how many logs, please let me know through this thread. Thanks for the help and if you have other ideas, do not hesitate to add them!

i kinda wish i'd got a nice mining lvl first, so i could mine pure ess and sell on exchange. i know this doesn't help with being a member, it helps you access the perks.

also, i agree with everyone else here- get lots of oaks. i wasted loads of time cutting them, but also have cash. it costs a bit to turn them into planks.

p.s. i haven't found a use for tiles yet, so don't bother.

p.p.s. i almost forgot- get buckets. when you're farming, you need lots of buckets to store compost/supercompost in, so don't forget them.

you are taking the fun out of just becoming a member by having requirements. Jump into it and go hour by hour instead of acting like you need all these requirements. I was level 20ish and I would suggest you wait til you get to members to do anything, get some members quests done and some requirements come out of just doing quests.

Members also have an easier time collecting things, so why hassle on an f2p server competing for logs or a certain spot, just do it when its lest crowded on members world.

I might be taking YOUR fun out of it, but for me, fun means completion and high levels.

I'm also trying to get as much done as quickly as possible. I don't plan on being a member forever, so I want to get a bunch of stuff out of the way as quickly as possible, to enjoy F2P more later.

I figure the first skill I'll level up to 99 will be agility, since I can use that even after dropping membership. Everything else will come as a result of the others. What I plan on doing is levelling up to 50 EVERYTHING, then concentrating on agility.

I'm just wondering if people became a member, then had to stockpile stuff that they could have done for free and not waste their membership dues.

A good preperation would be to honestly bring millions of gp so you can buy a good jumpstart of members items once you arrive. Dont know your stats, but things like weapons, armor, etc. Not to mention you can just poor extra cash into your stats.

get your combat level up: you'll be introduced to a lot of pvp so it'll be a good idea.

good pile of money: new members item = stronger weps you can afford.

get stats up like wcing, fishing, etc. you'll profit off more expensive commodities\raws and it'll help a lot in the second idea.

good luck!

Thanks, those tips are the kinds of things I was hoping this thread would get...

My current stats should be viewable below in my signature. Once I start stockpiling logs of all kinds, my WC will change, but I wasn't planning on getting my fishing up that high. Perhaps I need to work on that a little (I'll take a look at the guide to see).

Don't bother training fishing in f2p, shilo villiage fly fishing is incredibly fast, and close to a bank.

Combat 65 is perfectly fine to go P2P, any skills that quests require you to get higher are infinitely quicker to skill in P2P anyway, so don't delay!
