icecube
Today we had an interesting discussion in [?] about gathering skills (mining, woodcut, fishing, etc.) and whether higher levels would help you gather materials faster. Most people have said that higher levels would indeed help, but it seems that may not be true. We ran 2 tests both at willows for woodcut. First one: 75 WC vs 96 WC. At the end of the time period, both had the same amount of logs. Second one: 75 WC vs 99 WC. At the end of the time period, the 99 WC only had 1 more log. Both were done in relatively short amounts of time. Doing more tests may yield more accurate results, as well as longer tests but it'd be hard to keep things the same in longer tests. And to the point of my thread, anyone want to aid in this experiment? For now, I'm just gathering results for Woodcut. To help, just woodcut for and time how long it takes you to get 28 logs (full inventory). To keep results consistent, please use a rune woodcut axe, and use an empty tree. Then post your results. If you feel like doing more than 1 test, it'd help :D . [i've also sent this question to JaGEx in hopes they'll respond, but this is just in case I get an automated message] Example: Woodcut level: Type of Tree: Time taken:
Hedgehog
I was mining iron with a level 57 miner and we both got iron at the same speed (i'm lvl 75 mining). I've found that when you have a certain number of levels above the minimum requirements you will stop getting faster.
tryto
I'll do a test for you later perhaps; I'm feeling lazy right now. I haev two accounts, one 99, one 75. I do feel a difference between them, but it is MUCH more pronounced at yews than willows, and is virtually non-existent at oaks and below. RichieMcD
Thanks, any help is appreciated : . Il help but ive heard before that after a certain level there is no change I.E after say level 70 (example, not a fact) both a level 75 and level 90 WCer gather willows at the same speed but if they did yews the level 90 would gather faster. Rmstn1580
I'm doing my own long term study of my times on WCing. I'll send it to you when I'm done if you want.
Freesia
I believe the wc coding works like this: The first swing to start cutting a tree you stand a chance of getting a log based on your wc lvl and axe quality same with other swings, however if you do get a log from the tree, for the next 2 swings you will never get a log. Hence based on this theory, a lvl 85 wcer and a lvl 99 wcer should chop oak at the exact same speed. PS: Please do not advertise the clan chat on the tif forums. Thanks Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.
tryto
I've gotten 3 logs in 3 swings before at willows. icecube
Why can't I say the clan chat? Others have posted threads about it in General Discussion, and I'm sure people use it in their actual blogs as well. Yeah I've heard the theory of a level where you stop gaining speed, however, I want to see if levels even affect speed.

gun_hippy
Woodcut level: 94 Type of Tree: willow Time taken: 1min 30 exactly Woodcut level: 94 Type of Tree: yew Time taken: 5min 20 bear in mind i only did one load of each, so it's not a true average just whatever speed that load happened to be, and i bought a rune axe especially for you so you owe me some christmas trifle ;p
Captainkidd
I'd help, but I need someone with 99 woodcutting to join me. I'd use an account with 1 woodcutting, see how long (on average) it take me to get one normal log from a tree, then some one would lend me 99 woodcutting and I'd see how long it would take to get a log (on average). That would put this thing to bed, or atleast provide a definitive answer to, if lending skills work.
