They give the same stats as sara and guthix, but cost like 6 times as much...

first, zammy book gives +8 all attacks, sara gives +8 all defences and guthix gives + 4 all attacks and defences

 

 

 

Since zammy is attack, and it's good for mage, that's why

zammy are rarer, i've gotten mabye 20 sara 15 guthix and 5 zammy pages and like j35u5 said the zammy book is usualy better because a lot of the time you're praying and don't need to def

And lots of ppl used to buy them because of pking...

Look at it this way, if you melle why would you use a book? Prayer. What don't you need when you pray? Defence. What do you need? Offence. A Zam book provides offensive stats, guthix is sort of a useless mix tbh and sara is just pointless, clearly if someone wanted 8 defence bonus they would go pick up a bronze-iron kite. However the mage defence is commendable, so it's considerable for things such as infernal mages, but most just use mind/ele shields for that.

 

 

 

Now if you're ranging with a one handed crossbow, do you need defence? Not really, you use safe spots. Do you need offence? Yes, some of the more effective crossbows can have a lower range bonus (*cough* hunter bow) so some like the extra bonus, though I can't tell a difference if I take a zammy book or leave the shield spot open.

 

 

 

For mage, it's all about mage bonus really, so you can rip apart meleers and in PvM as well. Again, 8 defence isn't really useful when a mage could just use so many other things.

 

 

 

The prayer bonus just makes the use of any defence bonus obsolete, thus more people buy Zam items, making them more expensive.
