megakiller32
I have a new computer (And its awesome :D) But i have a slight problem. The internet connection is really slow, because the wireless router i am connecting from is 2 floors down. So i was wondering if there was any ways in boosting or improving the signal strength to my computer. I'm on 2/5 bars at the moment, and help would be appreciated ty :D Quit Runescape 30th May 2006.Thanks to Hawkxs for my signature :)
cat666
Get your PC wired to the router. Also if you are leeching someone else's bandwidth then it's pretty poor game. Trust the Gene Genie!

The wire would be too long, and it would be difficult to get it through the house into my room. Also, im not leeching someone elses bandwidth :) Quit Runescape 30th May 2006.Thanks to Hawkxs for my signature :)
OldJoe
There's only two things i can come up with atm: Someone is leeching of your router in the house/neighbourhood (example, i can see a neighbours wlan and his house is 20m away) that isn't allowed to. But the probably correct thing is that your antenna on your (i assume) pci-e card is too weak, or the router antenna is too weak. I have the same problem on my new computer, only 2/5 bars but that is due to my pci-e cards antenna is too weak and not the router antenna. Cruiser
Being 2 floors away, there won't be much you can do to improve the signal without moving the computer or the router. Adjusting the direction of the antenna so it's parallel to the floor way help but there's no guarantees. The more common antenna types for wireless LANs have omni-directional and directional radiation patterns. Omni-directional antennas propagate RF signals in all directions equally on a horizontal plane (i.e., throughout the facility), but limit range on the vertical plane. This radiation pattern resembles that of a very large doughnut with the antenna at the center of the hole.

Just get a technician to put it up through a wall or something, I'm sure they could do that. There wouldn't be any cooling issues. Just make sure you don't have possums. ooberman
I agree that a wired connection would be the best solution (and the cheapest) but if money isn't an issue, then you could try something like This. I have used these a few times and have had a good experience with them. I have been informed that both peices of equipment have to be on the the same ring circuit, but I have not experienced any problems so far. oober
woopidoo2
I am in the same situation as you, Wireless+2 floors down. I can live with it, but its not that fast indeed. Try connecting your USB signal device to a cable, and move the cable to other places so your reach is bigger. Try leaving your door open, it might work.
